Dead Luna
Chapter 10

Amelia's POV

I feel ready to get started matchmaking immediately, but I need to make a plan first, and Ambrosia agrees. Plus I have some loose ends to tie up in town.

Luna Leann shows me to a guest room where I can freshen up and relax until lunch. She also hands me a lovely navy dress and beige heels, and suggests i wear them to a special luncheon for all the Lunas, which I was invited to attend. Excellent! Ambrosia says in my head. Let's get this party started!

At noon I am led to a lovely little private dining room, containing an oblong mahogany table with 7 comfy looking armchairs and 7 gorgeous place settings. One entire wall is filled with floor to ceiling windows, with a gorgeous view of the surrounding forest. Besides Luna Leann and myself, there are the 5 other Lunas from the ten alliance territories with mated Alphas joining us. We are served a light but elegant meal by omegas wearing a crisp black uniform. The food was marvelous and I enjoyed it, but this meetings main purpose was to talk about pack issues, and that is a big part of the reason I was brought back to life for.

"There have been the most incredible rumors about you circulating around the pack this morning," Luna Grace of Three Sisters pack in Oregon tells me, as she stabs a bit of cucumber and shrimp salad with her fork and sticks it in her mouth.

"Did you really die, and meet the moon goddess?" chimes in Luna Caroline of Gifford Pinchot pack. "What is she like?"

My mouth is full of dinner roll, so I just nod. At first. Then I was describing the amazing library, or study I realized was the more accurate term, and all the volumes containing the stories of our lives.

"Selene, herself, is exactly how you picture her to be. So beautiful she is almost hard to look at. Flowing black hair, and icy blue eyes. But she is kind, and loving. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that Selene isn't fond of answering direct questions, but I suspect that's because she knows we can replace work out the answers to most of those questions for ourselves."

Everyone is looking at me with a mixture of awe, surprise, and some look a bit skeptical.

"Moon goddess has given me a sort of blessing, in order to help her with matching wolves with their fated mates. With once glance, I can tell whether someone is mated or not, what sort of relationship they are currently in if there is one, and what sort of mate would best suit them. If I spend a few minutes longer, and I've also met their mate, I could tell them exactly who this person is and where they are from."

"For instance, I've been in this room long enough, that I know that twin Lunas Candice of Satus Pass Pack and Luna Caroline of Gifford Pinchot have chosen mates. Candice is of course 5 months pregnant with a little girl as we all know, and Caroline is 3 weeks pregnant with a future Alpha."

They all seem suitably impressed now, and I can tell everyone is now on board. I explain what I plan to do, and we draw up a schedule of when I will visit, starting with the Willamette Pack. They are the most in need of my help, as nearly 1 in 4 adult wolves are without mates there, as well as being the most centrally located.

Then I eat the rest of my lunch while the Lunas discuss other pack matters. My chicken in plum sauce as well as the pilaf and steamed sugar snap peas have grown cold while I was talking, but they were still tasty enough. Then an omega takes my empty plate away and replaces it with strawberry shortcake.

After the meeting is over and the rest of the Lunas have all headed out for whatever other activities have been arranged, I hang back a bit while Luna Leann directs the omegas as they clean the room.

"Can I have a private word?" I venture to ask. She looks a little alarmed, but agrees. She gives a few more orders to the omegas, and then directs me to her office, where I take a seat on a lovely little beige and grey brocade settee. I complement her on the tasteful decor, which she obviously decorated herself.

"Umm," Luna Leann stammers a bit. "What is this about? I already have a mate, so I don't need any of your help!"

"You don't need to be nervous!" I try to reassure her. "I only have a little friendly advice for you, and I just didn't want to say anything in front of the other Lunas since you might feel a little embarrassed."

"Why should I be embarrassed?" She demands angrily. "I have nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about!"

"Indeed, you are correct!" I nod in agreement. I place a friendly hand on her shoulder and look directly into her light brown eyes. "You also have no reason to be jealous of your husband's Delta Jessica. It's true that they had a fling years ago, but that was before he met you. Now the only woman he desires is his beautiful Luna."

"Meanwhile, you are letting your jealousy as well as your anxiety over not producing an heir yet get in the way of your happiness. In Joshua's eyes, nothing can compare to you, and very soon Jessica will replace her mate. Just trust in the strength of your mate bond, and relax."

"My wolf Ambrosia tells me that you would probably benefit from a little vacation, just the two of you. Maybe a long weekend together in, say, 2 weeks time? It very likely you'll come back home with a pup or two on the way."

"Oh, thank you!" Leann cries, tears streaming down her cheeks. And then she gives me a hug.

I think I'm going to love my job!

So Ambrosia, what's next on the agenda?

Well girlfriend, we gotta go hunt down that Gamma of ours, and put him to work. You might want to change outta that fancy dress and put on something you can do heavy lifting in first, though.
