Roman's POV

"We appreciate that he's young and he's inexperienced but that won't change the outcome. He as Alpha had a duty to keep his entire pack safe and he failed."

"It's the number one rule. Experienced and inexperienced alike, both should know that fact before accepting their roles."

"My son may not have been Alpha for long, but he never once put himself before the pack. Show me one person to complain about the way he ran things because I know you won't replace one. Hell, I'll even help you look." "Axel you're not an Alpha anymore you have no standing here. Your presence is more of a courtesy."

"Like hell I don't! My family were among the first to be created. I mean you no disrespect, but by that alone I have more right to stand up here and speak than any of you."

"You would bode well to hold your tongue. Speak out of term against the council again and you risk losing it!"

"Dad..." seeing things beginning to heat up I knew if he carried on things would take a turn for the worse.

"What my mate is trying to say is that his bloodline gives him a priority vote when it comes to our son. Each of you come down hard on those that break the wolf law, yet you yourselves don't seem to even remember the full law." "Excuse me?"

"By refusing him the chance to speak that's exactly what you're doing. I understand your all getting on in age, and I know I'm no spring chicken myself, but I can guarantee you my memory is far better than yours. One of the first laws ever written say that those from the first ever bloodlines get a say when things such as this happen. Do you need time to check?" My hands grew sweaty as my grip tightened on the back of my chair. The council made me nervous and for good reason. They weren't known for being soft and I feared for my father's lives as they continued to push them. My wolf was walking in circles in my head, ready to pounce at a second's notice. We were strong I knew that, but going up against the council without knowing exactly what they were capable of would be a stupid mistake. One that could not only cost my life, but the lives of everyone within this pack.

"Then tell us oh noble one. What exactly would you have us do?" Sensing the sarcasm in his voice my shoulders relaxed ever so slightly.

"Let us prove to you, to all of you that he had no idea he was being deceived. I assure you our son would never betray this pack." "We will give you two days, after which time he will be punished to the highest degree. Now as for your mate Alpha Roman." "What about her?"

"Roman..." My eyes darted to my fathers as they stood watching me. The look in their eyes telling me to keep my cool and not to get cocky. A look I had seen far too many times. "She's resting."

"Hm, I understand that Elder Johnathan gave you an order to end both hers and the pup's life. Something you failed to do."

"I can assure you he gave no such order. When we found out who Cleo's birth father was, I called for advice. Elder Johnathan's advice was heard and immediately forgotten about."

"Well, the 'advice' as you call it should have been heeded for now we risk facing an enormous threat. One that if given access to a higher power could wipe us from the face of the earth."

"We're in the process of stopping Hades. As for power can you elaborate?" The way they each looked at each other before their eyes glazed over told me they knew something.

"That's all the questions we have at this moment, we'll be in touch." One by one they left the office leaving me and my fathers in shock.

It was clear one of the elders had let slip something he shouldn't have, something I wanted to know. Kai remained in the dungeon, something this meeting should have changed. He was this packs Alpha, not a traitor and didn't deserve to be treated as such. Sending Cleo a mind link I hoped she had found what she was looking for.

Cleo's POV

Having waited for the elders to leave Daphne and I snuck into the guest quarters. As suspected, they had left three of their own men guarding the corridor. Even though we had an advantage we needed to be careful. Slowly we made our way down the corridor trying to avoid any creaky floorboards. We may currently be invisible but that didn't mean we couldn't get caught.

Remembering what Roman had told us we entered the third door on the left. Once in we made sure the coast was clear before rushing to the balcony. The room which we had hoped the council would hide their ceremonial blade was another two rooms down. But to remain unseen we figured this being the better option. Climbing onto the balcony I tapped into Freya's abilities and jumped to the next balcony. Once Daphne was safely over, we jumped again. "Now what?"

"It's bad enough that you're here after everything you've done, so can you please just not talk."

"Cleo if everyone else can look past what happened and give me a second chance, why can't yo..." hearing a shuffle come from inside the room I placed my hand over Daphne's mouth.

"Shh..." with the help of Henrik's spell Daphne and I could see each other but nobody else could. However, that didn't mean they couldn't hear us.

As we edged closed to the balcony door I almost jumped from skin as the curtains opened revealing the guard Roman himself had posted. Only problem was I didn't know his name. Closing my eyes and picturing my mates handsome chiselled face I sent him a mind link.

'Roman what's the name of the guard you placed with the council?'

'Benny, why what's happening?'

'The elder's room is empty except for him. They clearly didn't want him following them.'

'No, they left him behind as insurance. Anything happens on his watch, and I take the fall. Shit!' His breathing turned haggard as he realised this may not be as simple as we had initially thought. 'What do we do?'

'Stay on plan Cleo. If I have to take the fall, then so be it.' Without giving me the chance to argue he blocked me out. "Luna?"

"How does he know we're here?" Following Daphne's gaze, I saw Benny standing at the sliding doors looking around.

"I don't know... Benny how..."

"Before you ask Alpha Roman told me you're here. Come in quickly." Keeping the door open we stepped inside. "Are you here?"

"Yes, I'm here but please I'm not the Luna."

"Where are you?" Raising my hand, I waved before remembering he wouldn't see it.

"Over here." Picking up the lamp I waved it around. "Benny where's the safe?"

Removing a picture from the wall he revealed a locked safe. Taking the paper from my pocket I entered the numbers into the digital lock. Upon hearing the ding, I twisted the handle and opened it.

The knife was both elegant and beautiful. It had clearly been handcrafted. Though it more accurately resembled an athame. The hilt looked to be made from wood and carved in the shape of a wolfs head with the base that of a moon. The blade itself being completely plain but ever so slightly curved.

"Luna you're going to have to make it look good, just please don't break the nose."

"Luna.... I'm not... your nose? Why the fuck would I break it?"

"If it looks as if you got the better of me it will keep Alpha Roman in the clear."

"Did he ask you to do this?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Just a few minutes ago he was all for taking the fall and now he was covering his arse by his guard getting a beating.

"He didn't, but if you leave here with that there will be problems. And if you don't mind me saying, you both have enough problems as it is. Let me do this for you, for your pup." Turning my back on Benny I thought over everything. What he was offering, it would keep the heat from Roman long enough for us to take action.

After thanking Benny, I gave him a beating that would convince even the firmest of minds. Leaving the room the way we came, I felt guilty for what had happened and wished there would have been another way. With the athame now in my possession it was more important than ever to get back to Henrik without incident.

"Never in my wildest of dreams did I think I would get to see such craftsmanship in my lifetime! This... this is exquisite. The detailing, its... wow." Daphne laughed as she sat watching Henrik just as Roman's voice echoed in my mind. I could tell he was worried as he told me the council of elders were on their way back, but I just ignored him. I knew it was petty, but after he blocked me out earlier on, I didn't feel like easing his nerves.

"Now you've been introduced do you think you can make it work?"

"I do. I'll need some of your blood to purify, but it will work. If I can connect to the power within it, I should be able to extract the hellfire. Granted it will be weak because Hades harnesses it, but you are his daughter which means even dilated, it's there." "How long?"

"I'll need a few hours, but if I were you, I'd get back and quick. You're not so transparent anymore and the council are waiting for you to wake up." "They think I'm asleep?"

"They do. Roman told them you were resting after experiencing a traumatic birth. They gave him till noon to present you."
