Roman's POV

Having snuck out the back of the shop before the door opened, I let out a deep breath. This was only one of the many hurdles I knew we would now face. I knew anything could go wrong but I also knew that Cleo and I would fight until our last breaths if that's what it took to get our pup back. There was nothing we wouldn't do.

Together the three of us weaved through the crowd of jumpers and dancers, carefully navigating the streets. Which between the decorated floats and food stalls was incredibly hard to do. At this moment we were at us most vulnerable. Normally Balthazar would have been able to pick up on another wolf's scent, but the smell of burgers, hotdogs and alcohol blended with the crowd's perfume overwhelmed him immensely. The combination making him nauseous and uncomfortable.

I'd hoped to spot Hades in the crowd our pup in his arms before they reached the church, but I couldn't help thinking he'd had the same idea as us. Disguised themselves and our pup. A couple with a baby, nobody would think to look at them twice. Glancing at the time on my watch I gritted my teeth. This was going to take too long, and we had no idea which church they would go to. I didn't want us to split up but didn't see any other choice.

"We're running out of time we have to split up. Start asking the stall holders if they've seen anyone with a baby. I know it's a long shot, but anything will help." I yelled at Cleo and Daphne who nodded before heading off in different directions. As I squeezed through a larger crowd I headed to the side of the street. With the girls looking for leads I wanted a closer look. Finding a set of stairs leading to an apartments balcony I climbed them. There was more than one pushchair at the festival which was when I realised something.

'Cleo look for anyone holding a baby. They won't have used a pushchair, there's just no way they were going to risk being caught purchasing one.' I could see her nodding in my mind as my eyes fell on a quieter part of town.

'Roman, Daphne has something! Meet us on Edgeware Street. It's behind the peri van!' As she ended the mind link, I wasted no time in jumping to the ground.

"The guy from the cafe over there..." following her nod, I found the cafe. "Well, he said a woman fitting Kaylee's description screamed at her baby because it wouldn't stop crying. I don't know about you but that's not the sort of thing a real mother would do."

"Did he say where she went?"

"He said he was concerned about the mothers actions so he went out for a smoke too keep an eye on her. Apparently, a tall guy took the baby from her and they headed down this street. There isn't much up this way except for an old church." "It has to be them Roman."

"Agreed. Let's get going and keep your eyes open. If it is them and that's the church they need theirs likely to be some form of trap. He's not going to go through all this just to get caught at the last minute."

The closer we got to where the church would be located the more distant the festival music became. There were still a few hours before the moon was set to rise which gave us an advantage.

"I can't see anyone." I had expected to run into a rogue or a demon, but as the church came into view the entire street was still.

"Doesn't mean there isn't anyone here. We move slow and quiet. We come into contact with one of their helpers we end them quickly."

The three of us clung to the edges of the buildings as we advanced on the church. As we reached the blacked out church I thought we'd been in the wrong place until the unexpected happened. The sound of bones snapping and rearranging came from behind but I didn't need to know what it was because I already knew.

"Daphne what are yo..." before Cleo could finish her sentence Daphne's wolf had grabbed onto her arm pulling Cleo to the ground.

"You double crossing bitch let her go." Keeping calm I forced my alpha aura out hoping that now she had mated with Eric that Daphne could be forced to submit.

Realising she wasn't going to listen Cleo was quick to give Freya control only the moment she began to shift she stopped.

"Roman I can't... somethings wrong!" Balthazar becoming infuriated forced a hold over my body only he too was met with a resistance.

"You didn't think we would allow any of that now did you?"

"Kaylee. What did you do?"

"It's the handy work of a spell I created. See I may not be able to actually cast the spells but I do adore writing them. You see using your pups blood I was able to prevent her bloodline shifting. As Daphne over there isn't Cleo's real sister she retains that ability."

"Ahh..." I could hear Cleo struggling but darent take my eyes off the demonic bitch in front of me.

"Good girl Daphne. Now kill her." Growling I ran as fast as I could elbowing Daphne's wolf in the ribs. Dropping Cleo's arm she whined before setting her sights on me.

"DAPHNE NO! Think of Eric Daphne. Your mated to him. If you go against us again what do you think will happen to him?"

"Don't waste your breath she can't do anything."

"Your controlling her..."

"By George I think she's got it." Kaylee acted like a child as she began clapping her hands. "She may have thought our business finished but she was very wrong."

Having managed to get Hazel into a choke hold I refused to let up on pressure until she became unconscious. She wasn't only Cleo's only family, but she was mated to a member of my pack. So taking her life unless absolutely necessary was out of the question. After her thrashing and growling ceased i dropped her to the ground. I should have known they wouldn't have let her off the hook that easy.

With Daphne temporarily dealt with, Cleo and I turned our attention back to Kaylee, who had now disappeared.

"Come on we have to go now!"

"We can't just leave her here Roman!"

"We don't have a choice Cleo. She's under there control so there's no telling how long until she's back up on her feet. I promise you we will come back for her." Looking at her sister she nodded in response. They may not be on good terms as of yet but at the end of the day they were family.

Daphne's POV

I'd felt something scratching in my mind from the moment we entered the street. Hazel had been unusually quiet so had put it down to her being on edge. Until we once again came face to face.

The moment our eyes locked, I felt it. I felt her hold over me. The ice cold feeling I'd felt while with Alpha Sara and Lucille. Something I had come to realise was a magical hold. As Kaylee's voice entered my mind I became paralysed. My entire body frozen to the core.

'Shift and kill them.' Those few words forming a pain in my chest.

I wanted to warn them, I wanted to fight against her hold but failed. As my bones began to move, rearranging into the form of my wolf, it became clear she was never mine. The moment Hades returned my shifting ability they owned me.
