Innocent Little Runt -
Chapter 40
Lycer’s POV
“I told you the little girl would be good bait, now it’s your turn to help me Malum,” I heard douche bag’s voice echo around the cellars. Bait? What the hell was he talking about?
“I will help you when the secret is spilled. Until then, you should keep your mouth shut. Now that I have the girl, I have no use for you.” I stiffened. The only reason why he needed Christopher was to get Celestial. He has Celestial.
I felt my wolf howl inside of me. Even in his weakened state he still managed to tell me his thoughts on what he would do if she was hurt.
As the voices got closer I could smell her scent. I growled when they came into the view in the corner of my eyes. She was unconscious, b***d on the side of her face starting at her temple. A huge bald man with black eyes was carrying her. He was another one of Malum’s experiments. I growled at him and for the first time in the almost two years I have been here, I looked up.
“Good! I knew this would work,” he said with happiness in his voice. He was happy about this? He’s a sick little fucker.
“Leave her alone!” I growled at him.
He shook his and an awful smirk made its way to his lips. “I don’t think I will. In fact I think that once she wakes up we’ll take her to your little. . .fun room.” Another growl left my lips. “You can watch too. But just for you we’ll start out simple. I think a nice long flogging will do.” I growled at him.
“Don’t you dare lay your hands on her!” He chuckled, making my wolf want to lunge out at him. “Put her down!”
“With pleasure.” He opened my cell door and snapped his fingers. Experiment number 17- I’ve been numbering them since I got here- stepped in and tossed her to the ground. My eyes widened as her shoulder hit the ground. I jumped down from my cot and picked her up in my arms. I heard the cell door slams shut and I looked up. “Let’s see how long she can go without food first. Oh, this will be fun!”
They both walked away and I looked back down at Celestial. My sweet Celestial. I haven’t seen her in such a long time. What a great protector I must be.
I pulled her closer to me and put one arm under her legs. I pick her up and set her down on my cot. I take my shirt that I use as a pillow and put it under her head. I look at the cut on her temple. It wasn’t too bad, but it hadn’t completely stopped bleeding yet.
“You’re always getting yourself in trouble, aren’t you?” I looked at the small cut on her head and sighed. It had stopped bleeding now. “Don’t worry though, because I will protect you like always.”
She started to stir and then her eyes popped open, revealing those brown eyes that I have missed so much. She looked around in confusion, wincing every now as she moved he head. Her eyes landed on mine and she stopped.
“Lycer?”
“It’s me Celestial. It’s me.” She threw her arms around my shoulders and hugged me as if her life depended on it. I hugged her back, not wanting to let her go. The last time that I let her go I ended up here.
“I’m sorry Lycer. I left you with those people, creatures, whatever they are and you ended up here. I’m so sorry.” I sighed. She has always done this. After I would help her with Christopher and his little group of “friends” she would apologize for me having to help her.
“No, I’m sorry that I wasn’t out there to help you get away from them. I’m sorry that this happened to you Celestial. What happened to everyone else who you were with?” Her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion and then tears came to her eyes.
“Xavier,” she whispered. I looked at her in confusion. She had never mentioned any Xavier as part of the group she traveled with and I doubt they would let a rogue join them. A tear fell down her face as she started to fiddle with her shirt sleeves.
“What’s wrong Celestial? Have you finally made a friend other than me?” I joked, trying to get a smile on her face. It didn’t work.
“No! I need him! He’ll be so worried.” I was really confused on what was going on but I didn’t like it. She was crying and I didn’t like it. I was her protector and I should be able to protect her from everything.
“Celestial, who are you talking about and what’s going on?” She looked at me and bit her l*p, looking down.
“Not too long ago, everyone had left. We were left by ourselves and then one day we got attacked.” I took her hand in mine and gave her an encouraging smile. I’m her best friend and protector, she can tell me anything. “My mom gave herself up to protect me. She didn’t make it.”
“I’m sorry Celestial.”
“I’m fine now. I ran, getting hurt along the way, and passed out in a pack’s territory. That’s where I met Xavier,” a smile came to her lips as she said his name. Is he her- “He’s my mate Lycer.” A smile came to my lips.
“Congratulations Celestial. I’m so happy for you and I promise that you’ll see him again.” She smiled a huge smile. I’ve missed that smile. “Tell me about him Celestial.” She shook her head.
“No. It will only make me miss him more. Now tell me why I’m here. Please, anything to distract me.” By now her smile was gone. She pushed herself up and sat down on the cot. I sat down next to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. She leaned back and winced.
“What’s wrong?”
“My head.” I moved so I was facing her and she turned around, the back of her head facing me. I put one of my hands on her head and moved it around until she winced. I moved her hair out of the way to see a bump on her head. There was a bit of b***d but like her other cut it had stopped bleeding.
“You’ll be fine.” She turned back around and leaned her head into my shoulder.
“Lycer?”
“Yeah?” I looked down at her.
“Do you promise that you’re okay?” I thought about all the beatings, floggings, and other forms of t*****e I’ve gone through.
“I promise,” I lied.
“And promise me that we’ll be okay.” I thought about the threats that Malum said. That he planned to starve us and planned to hurt her.
“I promise,” I lied again.
“And please, please, please promise me that you’ll get me home.”
“I promise,” and I did. She smiled the brightest smile I have ever seen her smile when she mentioned her mates name. I don’t know anything about him the way that a person should to call them a good person but her makes Celestial smile. If someone could make her smile that brightly then I would accept them for anything.
“Why don’t you tell me one of your stupid jokes? Please. I’ve missed them.” I chuckled.
“What do you call an alligator in a vest? An investigator.” I smiled as I heard her small laugh.
