Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 33

Isola, Italy

Elisa

I opened my eyes and found myself lying on the hospital bed, an IV drip attached to my right hand.

What happened? Why was I at the hospital?

And then it hit me.

s**t!

I was pregnant! Pregnant with Massimo’s baby. How stupid of me!

But wait, where was he? I was all alone in the room.

That coward! He ran away when he found out I was carrying his baby.

I had to leave this place and consider my options. What was I even thinking? What options? I had to abort the baby. I wanted nothing to do with that arrogant a*s.hole.

I took the needle out of my hand and sat up in bed. I was already feeling better, except for my racing heart and the anxiety that had overtaken me.

I had messed things up big time.

Massimo owned one of the biggest companies our law firm represented. And I was his fuc.king advocate.

I put my shoes on and grabbed my bag, ready to leave the room.

The sound of footsteps and muffled voices beyond the closed door stopped me. Someone was coming. I stopped, unsure if I wanted to know who was there.

“Fuc.k, Massimo. You screwed up, my boy. How could you sleep with Elisa, son?”

Fabrizio’s angry whisper startled me.

s**t! Why did he call Fabrizio?

“I didn’t know who she was when I met her that night, Uncle. And she told me she was on the pill. How was I supposed to know that she lied to me?”

Massimo’s growled low in response.

“Boy, do you know what that means? You need to tell Lisa that you are a werewolf.”

Wait! What? Massimo was what? A werewolf?

My legs turned to jelly, and my body slid down the door and sat on the cold floor. Suddenly, I felt dizzy again.

“I know, Uncle, you don’t have to remind me. The problem is that Onyx wants the pup, and I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how Lisa will react when I reveal my real identity to her.” Massimo sounded upset.

“Carrying my baby might do her harm, a human female, and you know that. Don’t forget what happened to Teresa back then.”

“Who was Teresa, and what did she have to do with me? And Onyx? Who was he, and what did he have to do with the baby I was carrying?”

I became more confused and overwhelmed waiting for Fabrizio’s reply as time passed.

“Teresa was terrified and could not bear your child, Massimo. She never accepted that you were a werewolf, which is why she decided to end her life and the life of her unborn child.

My daughter was a weak person, my boy. Please do not blame yourself for her decision. You loved her deeply and would have accepted her as your mate had she not killed herself. And I never blamed you for her death, son.”

Fabrizio’s fatherly voice brought tears to my eyes.

Was what I was hearing for real? I knew Fabrizio had a daughter who committed suicide ten years ago, but I never asked why.

I didn’t know what to do. I knew I had to get up if Massimo and Fabrizio decided to open the door.

“Let’s go to the cafeteria, son. It would be best if you calmed down before you spoke to Lisa. And please don’t compare her with my Teresa. Lisa is stronger than my loving daughter.”

I closed my eyes in despair as they walked away.

A werewolf. Massimo was a werewolf, and I was carrying his baby. What did he call it before? His pup.

Holy s**t!

What was I supposed to do? And what kind of a baby was a pup? I had heard about werewolves before but never believed they existed in reality.

We were not lovers and had nothing to do with each other except that one night and our professional relationship afterwards.

I didn’t want to keep his baby. It was one thing having a baby out of love and another having it from a random one-night stand.

Why did my heart ache at the thought of getting rid of it, though?

Elisa

I opened my eyes and found myself lying on the hospital bed, an IV drip attached to my right hand.

I opened the door slowly and checked the corridor; it was clear.

Gripping my bag, I left the room and rushed out of the hospital. I hailed a taxi and went back to my apartment.

I knew Fabrizio and Massimo would follow me, but I didn’t care. My home was my safe place, and I would take the time to think things over until they came.

Natalia! I should call Natalia and ask for her advice.

I checked the time and realised that she was probably asleep. I would call her later that evening.

The doorbell rang, interrupting my thoughts.

I hesitated to open the door.

It was inevitable that I would confront Massimo and the reality in our lives.

Gathering my courage and preparing myself for the worst, I took a deep breath and decided to open the door.

I was ready to face Massimo, but only Fabrizio was on my doorstep.

“Hello, Elisa. May I come in?” His gentle voice broke the awkwardness I felt at seeing him.

I smiled weakly and opened the door wider.

Fabrizio walked to the kitchen and put the coffee machine on like he always did every time he visited.

I sat down and waited for him to finish making his coffee, wondering why Massimo did not come with him.

As if reading my thoughts, Fabrizio took a seat and spoke.

“I asked Massimo not to come. I wanted to talk to you first, cara mia.”

“Fabrizio, I am so ashamed; I can barely look at you,” I whispered, tears rolling down my face.

Fabrizio put his hand on top of mine and squeezed it.

“Hey, Elisa, stop crying, my child. You didn’t do anything wrong. Why didn’t you tell me about Massimo and you? If I knew what had happened between you, I wouldn’t ask you to be his lawyer,” he said with his fatherly tone.

“I didn’t have a problem working on their cases, Fabrizio. You know that work comes first for me. But that changed today. I never expected this to happen.”

My voice was unsteady and hoarse.

“Elisa, I need to talk to you before you and Massimo meet, sweetie. Please listen to me carefully and try to stay calm. I know that you are a strong woman, mia figlia,” he was hesitant, I could tell.

“Is this about Massimo being a werewolf, Fabrizio?”

Fabrizio froze at my question and sat still, holding the mug with his coffee close to his lips.

“What? How?” he managed to say.

“I was at the door when you and Massimo were talking about it,” I whispered, closing my eyes, still crying.

“Is that why you left the hospital in a rush?”

I didn’t reply, but Fabrizio knew.

“Well, that will make things much easier for me, Eliza. Yes, Massimo comes from one of the wealthiest werewolf families in Italy. You have heard of werewolves before, haven’t you, my child?” Fabrizio asked.

“I never thought they existed, though,” I replied, my voice cracking.

“Elisa, he is no different from us. He shares the same thoughts and feelings as we do. He is stronger than a mere human, yes, and has a wolf, Onyx. If the circumstances require it, his wolf comes forward and fights for the safety and well-being of his pack members. Massimo is the Alpha of the Midnight Shifters here in Italy.”

“And the biggest a*s.hole I have ever met,” I gritted my teeth, remembering how Massimo had treated me that night.

Fabrizio laughed but became serious immediately.

“I know what I will say is no excuse, but he has reasons for acting that way. Since you overheard us at the hospital, let me tell you the whole story before you meet with him and decide how to proceed with the pregnancy,” he suggested, and I nodded in agreement.

“Massimo and Teresa were high school sweethearts. That was when I met his parents, and we became very close friends, a family, I could say. I knew their true identity from the start, but that never bothered me, as my best friend is a werewolf, but that’s another story to tell. I never told Teresa, though.

I never thought it would matter to her that much. She was crazy about Massimo, and he was madly in love with her. He had even told his parents he would never look for his mate. He would choose my Teresa instead.”

Fabrizio paused, and a sad smile appeared on his face. His stormy eyes revealed the turbulence of the emotions in his heart.

It was my turn to squeeze his hand and comfort him. He smiled, breathed deeply and continued.

“In their first year at university, they moved their relationship further, and Teresa got pregnant. Massimo was the happiest man the day she announced her pregnancy; he even proposed to her that same day.

We were all so excited, and none of us thought my daughter would react badly to the revelation of Massimo’s true identity.

After talking with his parents and me, Massimo decided to speak to Teresa before their engagement party. He wanted to make things clear with her. Being pregnant with a werewolf baby meant the pregnancy would last less than an average human pregnancy. The baby grows faster, you see.”

Fabrizio stopped and wiped his teary eyes, smiling bitterly.

My throat closed, knowing what would follow. Fabrizio’s pain radiated through me, suffocating. Where did he replace the courage to talk to me about it with such admirable composure?

“None of us expected that Teresa would go crazy with fear when she found out. She ran away and didn’t reply to any of Massimo’s calls. We had to cancel the engagement party because he could not get hold of her.

We all went crazy with worry, but Massimo was the worst of all. He didn’t sleep for two weeks, trying to locate my daughter, and she disappeared every time he found a trace of her.

And then she sent him that horrible message.”

He stopped, and my heart almost stopped with him. A horrible message?

“Teresa wrote to Massimo that she felt disgusted being kissed by a gruesome creature and, even more so, being intimate with him. She said the thought of carrying a monster inside her womb made her crazy.

She could not deal with it, Elisa. She lost her mind. My daughter went crazy. She would never have reacted that way if she were in her right mind.”

Fabrizio’s sobs prevented him from continuing. He hid his face in his hands and cried like a baby.

And I cried with him, feeling his pain. Feeling Massimo’s pain when he read the message, I whimpered and unconsciously placed my hand on my belly protectively.

“After Massimo received the message, he was devastated. He tried to reply to Teresa, but she was unreachable. I tried to replace a way to get in touch with her, but I could not reach her.

A few days later, I received a call from the police informing me that they had found Teresa’s dead body. She had jumped from a ten-story building in Palermo.

She committed suicide, Elisa. My daughter killed herself and my grandchild,” Fabrizio cried.

I stood up, went to him and hugged him from behind, waiting for him to calm down.

It took a while for Fabrizio to stop crying. My heart broke into thousands of pieces listening to my usually cheerful boss cry like that.

“Don’t fool yourself, Lisa. Deep down, you are affected by Massimo’s pain as well,” a small voice said in my mind.

“And now that I’ve told you everything, I need you to think before you decide how to proceed with your pregnancy, mia filgia. A baby is always a blessing, Elisa. Always.”

He kissed my forehead and left my apartment, leaving me alone with my confused thoughts and a heartache that made breathing unbearable for me.

And my inner battle had just begun.

Oh, God, what was I supposed to do?
