Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate -
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 34
Isola, Italy,
Elisa
I lay on Natalia’s bed pondering everything Fabrizio had told me.
Massimo’s behaviour towards me had been, in a way, justified when he realised we hadn’t used any protection that night. He didn’t want to repeat the mistakes of the past. On the other hand, why didn’t the a*****e use a fuc.king condom since he’d had that bad experience before?
And now, I was lying on my friend’s bed, pregnant with his baby, not knowing how to handle things. Having an abortion was my best option, but something held me back.
I had to talk to Massimo first.
What Fabrizio told me scared me if I was being honest with myself.
I realised that carrying a werewolf baby was difficult for a human like me. There was danger in this kind of pregnancy.
What was I thinking? As if I had already decided to keep the baby. Christ! I must have lost it. That was the case. All the confusion made me lose my mind.
I checked the time and realised that if I called Natalia, it would be early in the morning in California, and she would be awake.
I had to talk to my friend urgently. She was the only one I could count on for a straight and honest reply. Natalia would help me decide what to do.
I was not a killer; I hated abortions and thought it was a sin to end an innocent life. It never crossed my mind that one day I would be in the same position as those women I always judged for doing such a thing.
I picked up my phone and sent Natalia a massage.
Soon after, my phone buzzed, and Natalia’s name appeared on the screen. She was video-calling me.
I answered in a hurry, and as soon as I saw my friend’s beautiful face, tears rolled down my face and soon turned to sobs, making it difficult for me to speak.
“Lisa? Sweetie, why are you crying? Is it because you missed me, or did something else happen?”
Natalia’s concerned face and voice increased my sobs, and I just sat there on her bed, holding the phone in shaky hands and looking at Nat’s face.
“Hey, sweetie, listen to me, will you? I am sending you a virtual hug as we speak. A big hug that will make you stop crying. Close your eyes and feel my love for you, Lisa. Come on, sweetie, you can do this for me. We’ve done it before. Remember when you were in Canada for three months? Let’s do it again.”
Her sweet voice guided me, and I closed my eyes. I remembered being alone on business for three months in Canada, and Natalia called me every night and sent me virtual hugs to make me feel better.
It worked, and I gradually stopped crying.
“That’s my girl,” Natalia said, and I smiled at her sadly.
“Lisa, what happened? Is it work-related, sweetie?” Natalia asked.
“Oh Nat, I fuc.ked up my life. What am I going to do?”
My voice was hoarse and broken.
“Lisa, why don’t we take it from the beginning, sweetie? How about you take a deep breath and start telling me what happened? Oh, I know. Let me get my coffee, and you make yourself one in my favourite mug, the one you used to steal from me in the mornings,” she laughed. “That way, it will be as if we’re having our morning conversation,” she suggested, and I nodded in agreement.
I left the room for a few minutes and returned with Natalia’s mug filled with chamomile tea, which would probably help me sleep afterwards.
“Chamomile tea,” I said smiling. “It will help me sleep later on.”
“That’s my girl,” Natalia smiled when I picked up the phone again.
“Now tell me, what happened, Lisa? Why are you crying so much?” she asked.
“Oh, Nat, who would have thought that I would mess everything up after you left?” I sighed and took a sip of my tea.
“Lisa, what are you talking about, sweetie,” my friend’s expression changed as she frowned in worry.
“Well, for starters, Paolo and I broke up, and he confessed that he was dating me just for show,” I started.
“That a*****e. How I wish I were there right now to punch that jerk’s arrogant face,” Natalia growled, throwing her hands in the air and I smiled. That was my friend! How I missed her.
“Wait until you hear the rest,” I told my friend, and she sipped her coffee, waiting for me to continue.
“After my break-up with Paolo, I went to a bar to have some drinks and hooked up with a guy, losing my virginity to him,” I blurted out, and Natalia choked and spat the coffee on her phone screen.
“s**t!” She coughed and then looked at me with her mouth agape.
“You did what?” she screamed, and I grabbed a pillow and hit my face with it.
What would she do if I told her the rest?
“Lisa, show yourself. It’s no time to hide,” Natalia ordered, and for some reason, I obeyed. She had that kind of effect on me, but I never thought much about it.
“Is there more to it?”
My friend asked, and I nodded, eyes full of tears.
“I am pregnant,” I whispered and closed my eyes in despair as Natalia choked on her coffee again.
“Lisa! Have you set a goal to kill me today?” she said between coughing and tears caused by her choking.
“Natalia, I am eight weeks pregnant and not by an ordinary man. I am pregnant with a werewolf’s baby,” I spat and started crying.
“Wait, what? What did you say? Lisa? Don’t drive me crazy, sweetie; please talk to me. ”
She was shocked. I saw it in her eyes. Was she shocked and afraid? That was the vibe I got from her.
Natalia’s voice had lost her usual calm, which rarely happened with my friend. She was always composed.
Why did she react that way now?
“Werewolves are real, Nat. I never thought I would meet one, but I managed to get knocked up by one in just a one-night stand,” I whispered, desperate.
“God, what am I going to do, Nat?” I said and watched as Natalia’s eyes darkened for a while.
Or was it my imagination?
Natalia
I was shocked to realise that Elisa had s*x with a werewolf, and I couldn’t control Leia, who tried to step forward and defend our kind. My wolf was insulted by my friend’s comment.
“Leia, step back! She is too fragile now, and it won’t do her good to see you,” I begged my wolf.
“You should tell her, Nat. It would be best if you revealed our true identity to Lisa. My friend wouldn’t be afraid if she knew that she had been living with a female werewolf all these years,” Leia complained, and she was right. My wolf had been asking me for ages to reveal my identity to my best friend, knowing how open-minded Lisa was.
“I will, Leia. I need to replace the right way. Let me handle it, okay, sweetie?”
I begged, and Leia agreed with a low growl and retreated to the back of my mind.
“Lisa, are you sure he is a werewolf?”
I asked carefully, trying to get as many details as possible from my friend.
“Positive, Nat. I overheard him talking to Fabrizio outside the hospital room today, and then Fabrizio confirmed it for me,” Lisa replied.
“What hospital?”
My heart raced, and my fear for my friend’s safety made my legs weak.
“Lisa, are you all right?”
I tried to gauge my friend’s condition through the phone screen.
“Yes, Natalia, don’t worry. We had a business lunch today, and I threw up after I smelled the food. Massimo took me to the hospital, and that was when I discovered I was pregnant with his baby.”
“Whose baby?”
My head reeled in confusion.
“Massimo’s”, Lisa whispered.
“Why would you have a business lunch with the man that took away your virginity, Elisa? That is insane,” I protested.
Massimo? Why did that name sound familiar to me?
“Tell me about it, Natalia. When I met him that night, I didn’t know he was our firm’s client.
Fabrizio had appointed me as Massimo’s company lawyer. He would have been your client if you hadn’t left for the United States.
Fabrizio told me that he trusted only me with Massimo’s contracts, and I accepted without knowing he was the man from that night,” Elisa’s voice came out small, breathless.
“Why didn’t you turn down his case, Elisa?”
I asked, but I knew the way my friend thought. Business came first. Feelings did not exist when it came to business. That was our motto in life.
“You know the answer to that, Natalia. How could I know that I would get myself into such a mess?”
Elisa was helpless; I could tell. I had to get her to think positively. It was a must.
“Elisa, you told me before that Fabrizio confirmed Massimo’s identity. Is Fabrizio related to that man?”
I needed more information to have a clear picture of what happened.
“Fabrizio and his parents are good friends. Do you remember Teresa, his late daughter?” Elisa asked.
“Teresa? What does Teresa have to do with this?” I was utterly confused by now.
“Massimo and Teresa were high school sweethearts. She got pregnant, and when Massimo revealed his true identity to her, she committed suicide,” Elisa said in one breath.
“What?”
I stood from the chair I had been sitting in and sat on my bed. If I fell, I would fall onto the soft mattress, at least, I thought in shock.
“Fabrizio never blamed Massimo for his daughter’s loss, Nat. He has a good relationship with the Azzarello family, even now,” Lisa explained, and that was when s**t hit the fan.
“The what family? The Azzarello family, as in Maurizio Azzarello, is his father?” I asked, afraid of my friend’s reply.
“How do you know that?” Elisa was surprised at my words.
How did I know? They were the ones that guided me to shift to my wolf the first time. s**t. s**t. s**t.
“Natalia, wait! My doorbell is ringing. Who could it be at such a time?” Lisa left the room to check.
“Thank heavens, Leia, uncle Fabrizio got my message and returned to Lisa’s apartment. I couldn’t reveal the truth to her without him being there. I don’t know how she would react,” I told my wolf relieved.
I had sent Fabrizio a message while Elisa was telling me about Massimo, asking him to return because I had to reveal my identity to my friend.
Lisa came back and I could hear Fabrizio’s voice in the background. She picked up her phone.
“Fabrizio is here,” she said warning me with her eyes to be careful with my words.
“That’s great news. Let’s move our conversation to your laptop, sweetie. I would love to see my uncle,” I urged my friend as she looked at me, confused.
I smiled reassuringly at her. She hung up for a few minutes and then connected to her laptop.
I could see both her and my uncle sitting in the living room. Fabrizio smiled at me.
“Hey, Natalia. How are you, my child?” His fatherly voice brought tears to my eyes.
“Ciao, zio. I am doing fine. I missed you guys,” I said, and he smiled at me.
“Your position will always be here for you. Nat. Whenever you decide to come back, you are welcome, dear.”
“Uncle, Lisa and I were talking about Massimo and her pregnancy,” I cut to the chase and watched as Lisa’s eyes widened in shock.
“Sweetie, don’t be shy. Fabrizio already knows, and he can help me give you some news so you can decide what to do afterwards,” I explained. Despite her awkward facial expression with Fabrizio being there, Lisa nodded in agreement.
“So, Lisa, you told me that my Uncle explained to you that Massimo is a werewolf. Does that make you feel uncomfortable, sweetheart?”
I asked and watched Elisa’s face while questioning her. I needed to know how she felt, and Elisa’s expression was like an open book to me.
“A little,” she confessed.
“May I ask why? Did you notice anything unusual about him when you interacted with him?” I asked, and Lisa blushed.
“Not that part, Lisa,” I teased, and she blushed.
“Natalia, what are you saying? How would I know?” she spluttered, and Fabrizio and I laughed at her innocence.
“I am teasing you, sweetie. Now, honestly, did he make you feel uncomfortable while you were with him? I mean his behaviour, how he talked, moved or anything else?” I asked.
“No, I would never have known if I hadn’t heard him and Fabrizio talk about it,” Lisa replied, and I smiled.
“Does that mean you assumed he was a human like you, right?” I continued.
“Well, yes,” she replied, and I smiled.
“So, Lisa, sweetie, you realise that the only difference werewolves have with humans is that they have wolves and ranks in their packs?” I asked.
“Ranks?” She questioned.
“Yes, ranks. The Alpha is the leader, the Beta his right hand, the Gamma his warrior leader and the Omegas the lower rank responsible for the pack chores,” I explained for her to understand.
“And Massimo is the Alpha of the Midnight Shifters pack here in Italy,” Fabrizio added and I watched as Lisa’s eyes widened in surprise.
“You know, Lisa, living with a werewolf is not that weird,” I explained.
“Do you remember mentioning that Uncle Fabrizio told you his best friend was a werewolf?”
I asked carefully and nodded to my Uncle. He winked back and took a position to catch my friend if she fainted.
“Yes,” Lisa replied.
“Lisa, we lived together for so long. How do you feel about being my roommate for so long?” I tenderly asked my friend.
“The happiest person ever, Nat. I found a sister in you, and you know that. Why are you asking me that, though?” She seemed confused again.
“Sweetie, what if I told you my Uncle’s werewolf best friend is my Dad? And I, your roommate for so long and best friend, Natalia, your Nat, with whom you shared all your secrets, am a werewolf?” I asked carefully and watched as Lisa paled and started shaking.
“Uncle, grab her, ” I screamed as I watched my precious Lisa faint in his arms.
