Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 40

Isola, Italy

Elisa

I had been watching Natalia sleep for so many hours, still unable to believe she was there with me. My friend didn’t waste any time and rushed to me when I needed her the most.

What difference did it make that she wasn’t human? There were few humans, I could count on one hand, who were as good friends as Natalia was to me.

Natalia’s face was glowing. Did my friend become even more beautiful, or was it my imagination? I hadn’t seen her in a while, so maybe that was it.

Natalia opened her eyes and found me staring at her. She smiled.

“Hello, beautiful,” I whispered and her smile grew wider.

“Hello, sweetheart,” she replied.

“What time is it? How long have I slept?” she rubbed her sleepy eyes.

“A whole day, sweetie. You have slept for twelve hours. Like a log.” I teased my friend who still looked tired.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with Leia. She is very sleepy,” Natalia mumbled.

“Leia? Who on earth is Leia, Nat?”

Was my friend still dreaming?

“Leia is my wolf, Liz. I am a werewolf, remember? Werewolves have a wolf,” Natalia explained and yawned as if what she just told me was the most natural thing in the world.

I let it pass for the moment. I had more important things to talk about with Nat. She could tell me about her wolf later.

“Let’s go have some coffee,” I proposed, and we headed to our tiny kitchen. I had so many things I wanted to ask her.

Didn’t she say she got married to a guy named Blake?

Natalia

Taking our coffees, we sat across from each other on the enormous sofas in the living room.

“So, what happened between you and Massimo after our phone conversation?” I cut to the chase.

Elisa had already told me how she had met that jerk when we spoke on the phone. I had no intention of rubbing salt in her wounds by asking her to repeat what had happened between them after they met.

Elisa took a sip of her coffee and looked at me.

“That jerk is unbelievable, Nat. On one hand, he wants me to keep the baby; on the other, he wants nothing to do with me. He doesn’t want to get emotionally involved with another human.”

“Another human? What does that mean, Lisa?”

Had Massimo been involved with another human before?

Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she began telling me the story of Massimo and Teresa.

My shock at the realisation that Teresa was my uncle Fabrizio’s deceased daughter shook me to the core and I couldn’t control the tears that ran down my face.

I was thinking of how much pain she had caused my uncle and Massimo. I felt sorry for the jack.a*s who had got my dearest friend into the position she was in today.

“Somehow, I don’t blame him, Liz, but he should have realised the difference between you and his ex. Didn’t he notice your fighting spirit yet? If not, he must be a blind man,” I teased Lisa to lighten her mood.

“I don’t care what he thinks, Nat. All I care about is this baby and how I will deal with my pregnancy,” my friend replied with a gloomy face.

“Have you thought about what to do? The baby is growing fast since werewolf pregnancies only last six months,” I informed her.

I didn’t want to scare Elisa, but she had to know the truth. If she delayed her decision, she wouldn’t be able to abort the baby if that was her desire.

Lisa kept quiet.

I knew she was thinking about what I told her.

“I don’t know, Nat. The longer I think about it, it doesn’t seem right to abort the baby, but what if Massimo takes it away from me?” Her voice cracked.

“No one is taking the baby away from you, Lisa. I won’t allow it.” With my voice full of determination, I took my friend’s hand in mine, consoling her.

“What about giving birth to this baby? Fabrizio told me it’s dangerous for a human to bear a werewolf’s baby.” Elisa seemed worried about the unknown that awaited her.

“For a human to bear a werewolf’s baby, the werewolf should mark the human to help her cope with the pregnancy,” I confirmed my uncle’s words, knowing what my friend’s reaction would be.

“What about me, Nat? How am I going to bring this baby to life without endangering my life? Massimo never mentioned that, and I figured he would not be willing to do so. How can I give birth to this baby, Nat?” Her eyes were wide with fright.

“We will replace a way, sweetie. Don’t worry. The main point is for you to decide what to do.”

“I am keeping the baby, Natalia, but I don’t know how to raise a baby whose dad is a werewolf,” Lisa whispered, hiding her face in her palms.

“How I wish I could take you back to California with Blake and me,” I huffed, frustrated with my i***t husband.

“What do you mean, Nat?”

“And whose Blake?” It was Lisa’s turn to ask questions.

“Blake is my husband, Lisa. There is a lot you don’t know,” I replied and told her my story and how I ended up in Italy.

“And why on earth did you marry that jerk, Nat?” she paused and exhaled heavily. “What were you thinking?” she reprimanded.

Lisa’s eyes were wide with surprise and anger flamed inside them.

“That is another story, Lisa,” I smiled bitterly, and told my friend why I left Italy.

“We are on completely different terms now,” I explained before Elisa could say anything.

“The problem is that his ex-lover informed him she is expecting his baby,” I announced.

“What?” Lisa shouted, jumping up from the sofa.

“Yeah. When I was ready to tell him about you and my trip to Italy, I overheard their discussion, and Blake’s reaction disappointed me. We are not on good terms as we speak,” I admitted, and lowered my head.

“Honey, what if she is lying? Have you thought about that?”

Lisa was right. I never stopped to wonder if Emma lied to my husband. I was too angry with Blake to think clearly.

“I don’t know, Liz. I really don’t know,” I huffed.

We spent the rest of the morning talking about everything. By noon, Fabrizio arrived and insisted on taking us out for lunch. We accepted his invitation and enjoyed the sunny day in Isola, forgetting our troubles for a while.

After lunch, Fabrizio took us to the law firm, and I was happy to see how much everyone had missed me.

My heart leapt inside my chest when I entered my office. Everything was exactly the way I left it.

“We are still waiting for you to return,” Fabrizio confessed with a sad smile and I hugged him before he left for his office.

I felt sleepy again. When I told Lisa, she looked at me suspiciously.

“Do you have any other symptoms, Nat?” she asked in a soft voice.

“Other symptoms? What other symptoms?” I retorted, confused by my friend’s question.

“Never mind. Let’s ask Fabrizio to take us home,” Elisa said leaving to replace my uncle.

During the drive to our house, I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Elisa woke me up when we arrived. I said goodbye to my uncle and went upstairs to the apartment and straight to my bed.

When my head hit the pillow, I was already asleep.

I woke up the following day to replace Elisa cooking lasagna, one of my favourites. A sudden need to vomit when I smelled the cooked minced meat made me rush to the toilet.

Elisa came after me and tried to make me feel better by putting a wet towel on my face.

She was smiling while she helped me.

“What’s so funny?” I g*****d exhausted and closed my eyes.

“You,” she replied and helped me walk to the living room and lie down on the sofa.

“Stay here,” she instructed and left the apartment. She soon returned, holding a plastic bag.

“What’s that?” I asked.

“A pregnancy test,” Lisa replied and I gasped.

“What?”

“You have the same symptoms as I did, Nat. Why not check it out and make sure?” Lisa suggested, and I followed her advice.

She gave me the test and helped me to the toilet. When two lines appeared soon after I took the test, Lisa screamed with joy.

“Oh my God, Nat, you are pregnant as well. I can’t believe this,” she screamed and I stood rooted to the spot, not believing what was happening to me.

I was pregnant with Blake’s baby, and Emma was also pregnant with Blake’s baby.

“f**k,” I cursed and surprised Lisa.

“Natalia?” she hesitated.

“Do you realise the mess I am in right now, Lisa? I am pregnant with my husband’s baby and his ex-lover is pregnant, too.”

I tied my hair into a ponytail and paced up and down, unable to believe what had just happened.

“You need to calm down first, Natalia. Then we will think about what to do,” Elisa suggested.

My phone buzzed and I looked at it. It was a message from Lucas, Blake’s Beta.

Did anything happen to Blake?

I open the message with shaky hands, preparing myself for the worst.

“Luna, Emma was lying. She was never pregnant. My Alpha exposed her charade.”

What?

Another message arrived and I opened it anxiously, afraid to read it.

“Please don’t hold any grudges against my Alpha, Luna. He was ready to come after you, but the building we started renovating collapsed and it buried four people under the ruins. We worked nonstop to get our workers out of there, and when we finally made it, my Alpha arranged and exposed Emma and her lies in no time. Please give Blake the chance to explain himself, Luna. It was Aries who reacted that day, not Blake. Blake loves you deeply, Luna.”

Holding my phone, I sat on the sofa with a blank expression on my face.

Lisa watched me closely and came to sit near me.

“Sweetie, is everything all right?” She held my hand.

I shook my head and gave her my phone.

“Quella cagna. come può mentire così? così facilmente senza paura?” (That bit.ch. how could she lie like that? So easy with no fear?) Elisa yelled angrily.

“Immagino che l’amore l’abbia accecata per mio marito e l’odio per me,” (I guess her love for my husband and hatred for me blinded her,) I whispered, and wiped the tears from my eyes with the back of my hand.

We sat in silence and when the doorbell rang; we jumped in surprise.

Who could it be?

Fabrizio always called before visiting.

Elisa went to open the door, and I could hear her speaking in English. Curious to see who it was, I left the sofa and walked to the door.

Elisa had let the stranger enter the house, and he had his back turned to me, talking to my friend.

The scent of pinewood hit my nostrils, surprising me.

“Blake?”

My husband turned to me; his eyes were full of remorse.

“Hello, baby.”

His last word sounded like a whisper in my ears before I fainted.
