Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate -
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 41
Dinners Inn Motel, California
Elisabeth
After the incident with Drake, the doctor put me on bed rest. It shook Drake to the core that I had almost lost the baby.
He tried to apologise, but I sent him away, threatening that if he didn’t change his mind and abandon his plans regarding my father and Blake I would leave him. He joked and told me I was his prisoner because of my situation, but I insisted I would flee as soon as I felt better.
Drake tried to explain himself to me, but I refused to listen. I would not allow him to hurt my family despite how much I loved him. My father and sister had paid the price for our impulsive decision ten years before and I had no intention of ruining their lives the way my husband wanted.
If I was ever going to meet them again, I would meet them without being ashamed of Drake’s actions.
My husband knew how angry I was with him and he tried everything to make me forgive him. As punishment, I gave Drake the silent treatment.
I was never a pushover, but Drake’s behaviour led me to that decision. Why would I want to build my happiness on other people’s misery again? We broke many people’s hearts when we did that ten years ago.
I felt relieved when I heard Drake mention how Natalia had returned and married Blake.
Being Blake’s fated mate back then didn’t stop me from realising how much he cared about Natalia. That was one of the many reasons I followed my heart.
Ever since I found out that my sister was back, a burning desire to see her had been rooted in my heart. Natalia had been a fifteen-year-old teenager when Drake and I eloped. I wondered how she turned out, but I was certain Natalia wouldn’t want to see my face since I was the reason for her and our father’s misfortune.
I searched for her on social media but couldn’t replace anything about her. I then searched Blake’s account and found articles covering the wedding of one of the most prominent businessmen to the stunning beauty, Natalie White.
Seeing my sister as a beautiful young lady shocked me. Tears welled up in my eyes when I realised Natalia was the spitting image of our late mother.
I searched through the photos and found one with my father and Natalia. He held my sister by the waist and smiled happily at the camera.
I missed my dad so much! He had grown older, his hair grey and face wrinkled. I knew I was the reason for his premature ageing, and I felt guilt suffocating me and a longing to be close to my loved ones. A longing I had never felt before.
I touched my belly and closed my eyes in remorse. I could never imagine that my child would one day give me the same pain I gave my dad.
Being stuck in bed depressed me. I could not sit still. My only joy was the baby kicking inside my tummy, making me feel alive. Having so much free time was bad for me. Negative thoughts about my husband’s final decision made me grumpy and upset.
“You should give our mate some time to clear his thoughts, Ellie. Gunner confessed to me that Drake is very emotional and confused after you threatened him.”
My wolf, Amy, broke me from my thoughts.
“I hope the decision he makes will keep us together, Amy, or so help me Moon Goddess, I will run away and he will never see the baby or me again,” I replied, sadness in my voice.
Since Drake and I had become one, all I ever wished for was a baby that would make us a complete and happy family. I forgot my old way of life and didn’t think of what I had left behind.
And now, I had been waiting for my husband to do the same. He had to prove that all he cared about was me and our pup.
Would he be able to do that?
Or would our dreams of a happy life together disappear because of his arrogance and vanity?
Drake
Everything has been a mess since the night Elisabeth overheard my conversation with Ace.
Elisabeth was mad and refused to talk to me. Not to mention that she almost lost our pup to stress that night.
I had to call the doctor who rushed to our house to check up on her. He prevented the miscarriage and forbade Ellie from leaving the bed. She was even forbidden to go to the bathroom alone.
I informed the motel owners and requested their help. So, while I was working, either the owner’s wife or the Inn’s cook stayed with Elizabeth and cared for her needs until I returned home.
My wife was calm on the surface, but I knew that deep down she was boiling with anger and had many unspoken words about me and my behaviour.
I tried to talk to her and explain why I had decided to attack her father’s and Blake’s packs, but Elisabeth didn’t want to hear anything. Her only words to me were that if I insisted on my plans she would walk away from me.
At first, I thought they were just words of anger. Gunner changed my mind though.
“Drake, please don’t take Elie’s words lightly. She is determined to flee from us. And Amy is supporting Elisabeth’s decision. My mate warned me. If they realise that winning the Alpha position from Blake and your father-in-law is more important to you than keeping Ellie and our pup safe, Ellie will disappear and we will never replace her. You know how stubborn your wife is,” Gunner explained anxiously.
Cold sweat broke out on my forehead when I realised my wife meant what she had told me. She would leave me, not thinking twice if I proceeded with my plans to attack both packs.
“Imagine what she would do if she found out you were the rogue leader,” Gunner added, making my b***d freeze in my veins.
Fuc.k. I had messed up big time. I stood outside our room, my feet rooted to the spot, unable to enter the room and see my wife who was alone since the cook had just left our house.
“Drake, we need to talk. You know I have always supported your decisions and maybe I am at fault for the plans you made about taking over the reins from your brother and your father-in-law. But that was before Elisabeth got pregnant with our pup.”
“What changed, Gunner? Why not make the effort for a better life with our mate and baby?” I still could not figure out what my wolf meant.
“It changes everything, Drake. Don’t be such a dumbass. What if something happens to us in one of those fights? Have you thought about what Elizabeth and the baby would do without us? Can you become a bit more responsible please and figure out other ways to provide our family with better living conditions?” Gunner was upset with me.
“But I had to put up with being the second all my life, Gunner,” I tried to reason with my wolf but he didn’t listen.
“If I remember correctly, Drake, your father and brother loved you dearly and you always got what you wanted, especially from Blake’s side. He wasn’t that old when you were born, Drake, but he was like a second father to you.” Gunner stopped for a while and then continued, aggression in his voice.
“Let’s be honest with each other, Drake. I am your other half and you cannot fool me; you know that. Your jealousy towards Blake was for no reason. Your brother never gave you any reason to think he didn’t love you. Nor did your father. You acted based on the pack female’s gossip and slowly hatred and jealousy took over the rest of your emotions. Wasn’t that why you chased after Elisabeth when you found out she was Blake’s mate?”
“Hey Gunner, watch your mouth. I loved my wife when we eloped. Yes, I wanted to take her away from Blake, but what started as a game became reality for me. I could not imagine a life without Elisabeth by my side. Do not even say that I used her to hurt my brother. It goes deeper than that. Ellie is my entire life, Gunner,” I snapped at my wolf and he smirked.
“Prove it, Drake. Prove your love for Elisabeth. Be man enough to back down on your evil plans and give your wife and child the life she always dreamed of. Don’t make Elisabeth a widow, Drake. You know how powerful Blake is. We witnessed his power at the cliff attack. Is it worth losing your wife and baby in your attempt to get a position that never belonged to you?”
Gunner’s last words made me shiver. I closed my eyes and the image of a crying Elisabeth holding our pup in her arms filled my heart with regret. How stupid could I be to jeopardise my relationship with my wife? How could I not think of my unborn baby when I expressed all my doubts to Gunner?
“You are right, Gunner. I am not willing to lose my wife and child over my desire for a position. I will withdraw all our plans and inform the rogues and Ace about my decision to step back. Won’t that cause me any trouble with the rogues, though?”
“They will cuss at you, but you know how weak they are without your guidance, Drake. No one has attempted the same things as you did. You must detach yourself from them. The sooner the better,” Gunner insisted.
“I will call Ace right now,” I told my wolf and picked up the phone.
“Hey, Drake, what took you so long? I have a new delivery of guns and I need your men to come to the warehouse and pick it up. Preferably at midnight,” Ace spoke in a low voice, trying not to be heard by anyone.
“Forget about it, Ace. I am done with this thing,” I cut him off.
“What are you talking about, Drake? Is this some kind of twisted joke?” Ace roared on the other side of the line.
“Knock it off, Ace. I have more important things to deal with right now. I am giving up on my plans. Why does it matter that much to you? You can sell your guns to your other clients. I know you have many,” I tried to reason with him.
“Drake, have you fuc.king lost your mind? What could be more important than becoming the king by taking the reins from your brother?” Ace could not control himself and started yelling at me.
“My wife and child, Ace! That’s what matters to me the most! So don’t you give me that attitude, man! I said enough and I mean it. My wife and my child are my priorities. I will replace another way to make them happy,” I growled at my friend and ended the call.
I had to go tell Elisabeth the news. She would be happy with my decision. I couldn’t afford to lose her and our baby. I had a family to protect and care for.
I opened the door and found Ellie in tears. Our eyes met and she opened her hands for a hug. I didn’t skip a beat. I missed her dearly.
“Thank you, Drake. This is the happiest day of my life,” she said between sobs, and I knew she had heard me talking to Ace again.
I held her in my arms and caressed her hair lovingly.
“And that’s only the beginning, sweetheart. I promise you all our days will be happy from today onwards,” I comforted Ellie.
The rustling sound of the leaves from the trees outside brought a strange noise from the open window.
Was that a female giggle I heard after I had spoken my last words, or was it my imagination?
