Luna's Rejected Vengeful Mate -
Luna’s Rejected Vengeful Mate Chapter 64
The Dinners Inn Motel, California
Drake
My brother had left and I helped Elisabeth back to our room and into bed. I knew what I had to do but found it hard to send my woman away.
“Drake you must pack some clothes for me and put them in an overnight bag, baby. That would make our pretence more believable. Who would leave for the hospital without clothing, especially after contractions? Oh, and get the baby’s suitcase as well,” Elisabeth told me and I stood in the middle of the room, trying to replace the strength to do as she asked.
“Drake? Are you okay, honey?” Elisabeth asked and I looked at her.
“Ellie, what if the baby is born and I am not there for you?” There! I finally said it.
She smiled.
“Don’t worry baby. Your son is way more stubborn than you are. He will surely wait for his daddy before emerging from my belly. Now, be a good boy and do as I tell you. Don’t forget that Blake is waiting for us. We can’t be late,” my wife reminded me.
I guess you are right, honey. Let me get the things ready and we can go,” I replied, opening the closet to replace what she needed to take with her.
“Once you are done, we need to call Tia to help you take the things to the car. That would make our story more believable, Drake. Tia has always helped you in times of emergency. We cannot skip that today. It will look suspicious,” Elisabeth explained, surprising me.
“You are a Luna material baby. Too bad I don’t have a pack to rule, I joked with her and she smiled.
“I am the Luna of our family and that’s more than enough for me, Drake. I don’t need anything else but you and our baby,” she replied.
“Okay, let’s get this over with,” I turned my face away, trying to hide my tears. Elisabeth was my precious gem. And now she seemed to be stronger than me.
“I am sorry Ellie. If it wasn’t for my stupid idea to fight my brother we would have never ended up like this. This is all my fault,” I confessed what had been burdening me all this time with my head lowered.
“Hey, Drake, look at me. What’s done is done. We look forward. And I am proud of you for changing your attitude and helping your brother and my sister now. We all make mistakes, my love. Don’t think that way. I love you, Drake.”
My wife smiled at me opening her arms for a hug as I looked up. I left everything on the bed and walked to her, holding her tight, trying not to make her uncomfortable.
“Now, go and call Tia, Drake. We will need her help. Remember, you must act panicked, baby.”
“What about you, Ellie?”
“Don’t worry about me. I have practised labour breathing so many times, I won’t replace it hard to pretend,” she smiled cheekily. That smile made my heart flutter in my chest. I kissed her and left the room.
Tia was in the dining room, supervising the dinner preparations. I walked to her in long strides and pulled her away from the rest of the staff.
“Drake, what’s wrong?” My actions confused her.
“It’s Elisabeth. She is having contractions. Tia, I need the car keys, please. I have to drive her to the hospital,” I said in one breath, looking anxious.
“Sure, Drake one second.” she rushed into her office and came back holding the car keys.
I took them and rushed outside. Then I run back to the dining room.
“Tia, can you help me with the bags? I don’t want to leave Elisabeth alone in the car waiting for me.” At the thought of sending Elisabeth away my eyes filled with tears and Tia misinterpreted it as anxiousness.
“Sure, Drake. Let’s go back to your room,” she said and followed me.
“We are coming, Ellie,” I mind-linked with my wife.
“I am ready, Drake,” she replied.
We entered the apartment and I could hear Elisabeth’s moaning. Tia rushed to her.
“Hey, girl, hold on there. Your Drake will drive you to the hospital. Do you want me to come with you?” she asked, caressing my wife’s hair.
“No, no Tia. that won’t be necessary. You should stay here,” Elisabeth replied between her breaths.
“Elisabeth is right, Tia. You will be needed at the reception. I don’t know when I will be back,” I completed my wife’s words.
“Okay, enough with the talking. Let’s get you to the car,” Tia said hurriedly and picked up both the baby’s and Elisabeth’s bags.
I picked Ellie up bridal style and she wrapped her arms around my neck, hiding her face in my chest. She was pale.
“Baby, are you okay?” I whispered and she nodded, smiling weakly.
“Yes, let’s get this done,” she replied in a low voice.
We left the room and headed to the motel exit. Teresa had been sitting behind the reception desk. When she saw me carrying Elisabeth, she stood up abruptly.
“Drake, what’s wrong?” she asked, coming our way.
“Elisabeth is not feeling well. She is having contractions. I am taking her to the doctor,” I replied and left the motel, heading for Tia’s car.
Teresa followed us from a distance and witnessed me placing my wife in the back seat and Tia the luggage in the car boot.
I drove off, looking back at my wife worriedly, passing Teresa who stood rooted, watching the car leave.
The moment we lost them, I exhaled in relief.
“We did it, baby,” I told Elisabeth and she smiled.
“Great. Now let’s go meet Blake,” she replied and I nodded.
We found my brother waiting for us, parked in an alley. I stepped out of the car and walked over to him.
“Everything went according to plan. Teresa saw me taking Elisabeth to the hospital. And Tia, the motel owner helped me carry the bags to the car,” I informed Blake.
“Now what?” I asked.
Blake looked at me and replied.
“Now, you should park the car in my company’s private parking space. I will drive both you and Elisabeth back to the Dark Moon pack. You can’t go back immediately or they will suspect you.”
I froze. Me, go back to the Dark Moon pack?
“Blake…” I hesitated.
“Be a man, Drake. Sooner or later you will have to face the consequences of your actions. You should go with me so that Elisabeth doesn’t feel uncomfortable. She will be at ease if you stay with her for a while. Don’t worry. I have arranged everything. The guards at the gates are my most trusted men and no one will see you enter the packhouse. You should stay there for a while before going back to the motel,” my brother replied with determination.
He was right and I knew it. My worst fear had come true. I would go back to my old pack, feeling like a criminal. Because I was one. I destroyed my brother’s life and tried to harm him later on. But Elisabeth was right. It was all in the past and now I had the chance to make up for my mistakes.
“Okay, Blake, I will follow you to the company. And then we can go to the Dark Moon pack together,” I replied and walked back to the car, telling Elisabeth the plan.
I watched the lines of distress on her face disappear and realised how right my brother was. It wasn’t easy for my wife to go to my brother’s pack without me. She needed me there.
We followed Blake’s car and parked in the basement of his company building. I helped Elisabeth into Blake’s car and loaded the suitcases. I took the passenger seat and we drove toward my brother’s pack in silence.
There was no way to describe how I felt going back to my birthplace. I had so many memories there. And my heart clenched as I realised they all included Blake looking after me, running after me, taking care of me. I was a real jackass for treating my brother like that. I knew it. Even now, instead of taking my life as I deserved, he was trying to protect my wife and child. He wasn’t doing it for me, I knew that. He was doing it for Natalia, but his decision also benefited me.
My heart stopped when we entered the pack gates. Embarrassment and guilt were the two dominant feelings that overwhelmed me and I was tense. I closed my eyes and breathed deeply. Now wasn’t the time to feel weak; I had Elisabeth to take care of.
I lowered my head as Blake drove toward the packhouse. There was no one outside as Blake had promised. Instead of parking at the front door, Blake drove the car to the back door. Lucas, his Beta, was waiting for us there. He gave me an indifferent nod and unloaded the luggage. I grabbed Ellie in my arms and followed my brother upstairs to the guest room.
Lucas opened a door for us and the moment I entered, I saw Elisabeth’s doctor waiting for us and the medical equipment needed for my wife’s examination beside him. I turned to thank my brother but he avoided my gaze.
“You should settle in, Drake. I will come back in a while,” he said, leaving the room with Lucas.
I settled Elisabeth on the bed and turned to the doctor.
“Doctor, thank you for agreeing to join us here. I guess Blake explained to you how things are,” I said and the doctor smiled.
“Don’t worry, Drake. Elisabeth and the baby will be just fine here. Blake is a good man. He has taken care of everything for you.”
Yes, the doctor was right. My brother was indeed a good man.
He had given us a room with everything in it. A bathroom, a small kitchen, and a living room. No one needed to know that we were there. He had arranged everything.
There was a knock on the door and Lucas came in followed by another man, a bulky bold guy, carrying trays of food for the four of us.
“This is Jacob, the pack’s Gamma. He will be looking after Elisabeth and the baby while you are here,” Lucas made the introduction.
I knew Jacob. He, Lucas and Timothy were my brother’s childhood friends. I could feel both the men’s criticising eyes on me and I lowered my head in embarrassment.
“Thank you,” I replied in a low voice. This was not the time to be arrogant. The guys were right after all.
“If there’s nothing else, we will go,” Lucas said, leaving the room with Jacob.
I turned to face my wife. She was flustered. She, too, knew Blake’s childhood friends and felt uncomfortable around them.
“Hey, sweetie, it’s all in the past, remember? We are here for a reason and that’s the only thing you should keep in mind. Okay?”
“Yes, Drake,” Elisabeth replied, smiling.
We ate and spent the rest of the time with the doctor examining Elizabeth and the baby’s condition.
I didn’t even realise how time flew and when Blake came back telling me it was time for me to leave I was upset. I held Elisabeth’s hand and she smiled at me reassuringly.
“I will be fine, baby, don’t worry. You just do as we planned, okay? And stay safe for me,” she pleaded with teary eyes.
“I will, baby, I promise,” I kissed her on the forehead and followed my brother out of the room.
Blake led the way and I followed suit trying not to make any noise. I looked around and noticed that everything had changed. Blake had done a great job renovating the packhouse. Blake turned at the corridor and I was about to follow when a hand grabbed me and pulled me into one of the dark rooms. I didn’t have the chance to react and a punch sent me flying to the floor. Who the hell was that? Was it Lucas or Jacob?
I shook my head and looked up in the dark to see the culprit but he had his back turned to me. Suddenly, the lights went on and the man turned to me.
“Dad?’ I whispered in disbelief.
“Hello, son,” my father growled menacingly and took two steps closer to me.
The door opened and Blake burst in.
“Dad, stop,” he ordered my father.
