The Dark Moon pack

Drake

I drove to the Dark Moon pack, unable to believe that I would be entering the front door after so many years. I was anxious to see my wife after the days we spent apart. Knowing that Ellie was alone with my father had me worried. Judging by the way he treated me the other day, I feared he might mistreat Elisabeth.

We entered the packhouse with Natalia and walked into the living room. Blake, Fabrizio and my father were there. Blake was at Fabrizio’s side watching him sob.

I didn’t dare look at my father’s face. I averted my gaze and looked at Blake instead. I had to go replace Elisabeth but how was I supposed to tell Blake? He was busy taking care of Fabrizio and I didn’t want to walk upstairs to my wife’s room without permission, I was a guest, not a tenant. I cut our family ties when I eloped with Elisabeth.

I felt a shaky hand grabbing me by the wrist and yanking me out of the room. I didn’t have time to react and was soon inside my father’s old office.

“I am not looking for trouble. All I want is to take my wife and leave,” I whispered with my head lowered. I didn’t want to upset the old man. I had already done enough to make him ashamed of me.

“Drake, look at me.” My father gripped my shoulder and I looked up, waiting for a punch to my face again. I never expected to see my father in tears. I lost it.

Elisabeth! Did something happen to my wife?

“Is my wife and baby okay?” I asked with a shaky voice. Nothing else scared me but the thought of losing Ellie and our baby.

“They are both fine, Drake. Elisabeth has fallen asleep. You should not wake her up. She has been having a hard time falling asleep since she got here. She was constantly worried about you, especially after she realised she was no longer a part of the link you created to deal with Ace,” my father assured me.

“What’s with the tears then? Don’t tell me that you feel touched to see me, Alpha Elias,” I said bitterly and my father stared at me. He remained silent for a moment and then he stretched out his hands and pulled me into a hug, taking me by surprise.

I remained still, numb. What the heck was happening? Why was my father hugging me? I tried to pull away, but the old man was as strong as ten years ago and held me tighter, not letting go.

“I am so sorry, Drake. I never realised that you felt unloved, son. I never intended to be partial between you and your brother. I messed up big-time, Drake. I was so preoccupied with my work and running the pack without a Luna that I neglected you. It was Blake that opened my eyes to my responsibilities and pointed out that I was to blame for your actions.”

What? Did my father just apologise to me or was my imagination running wild?

I shook my head in denial. The latter was more possible and I was sure my mind was playing tricks on me.

“Drake, you are my son. No matter who your mother was and how you were conceived, I never thought of you any differently. Blake and you are both my flesh and b***d. Your brother was older and therefore became my successor. But I never meant for you to feel abandoned and unloved, son. I am so sorry, Drake,” my father continued in a low, broken voice.

No! It was not my imagination. My father was indeed apologising to me.

I pulled away slowly and locked eyes with him. He was still crying and I saw the pain in his eyes.

“Dad?” I questioned and chills ran down my spine speaking a word I hadn’t spoken for ten years.

“Son, please forgive me for hurting you like that. Because of my irresponsible behaviour, you tried to harm your brother who was always by your side. Blake was innocent, Drake,” my father whispered.

“I know, dad. I wish I could turn back time and not be the assh.ole I have been towards my brother,” I admitted my mistakes.

“But I will never regret stealing Elisabeth from Blake. She means the world to me, dad. Ellie and my baby are the only ones I would never trade for anything in this world,” I said with a voice full of determination.

“Drake, Blake has forgiven you. He has even forgiven your attempts to hurt him with Ace’s help. Your brother is a gracious man, Drake. Do you think you can follow his example and forgive your old father? Would you forgive me, son?”

The great Alpha Elias Hunter was begging me for forgiveness. I stared, dumbfounded, unable to believe how things had turned out.

Something broke inside me. A certain part of my heart had been frozen for so many years and nothing prepared me for the emotions that overwhelmed me when that ice broke when hearing my father’s words.

I reached out and hugged him, hesitating, afraid of his sudden rejection. My father held me tighter and patted me on the back, comforting me.

And I cried. I cried as I never cried before. Ever. I wept like a baby, my body resting in my father’s arms. He held me like he never had before, and for the first time in my life, I felt his parental love for me, for the son who I thought he had never loved.

The sound of a message came to my father’s phone. He took it out of his pocket.

“Drake, it’s Elisabeth’s doctor. She is uneasy and the doctor wants me to go upstairs. Let’s go, son.”

His last words hit me hard and I dashed out of the office and upstairs to my wife’s room, with my father on my tail.

I pushed the door open and found the doctor monitoring the baby on the screen. Elisabeth had her eyes closed and was crying silently. I rushed to her.

“Ellie, I am here, sweetie,” I whispered, holding her hand and stroking her face with my fingers. My wife opened her eyes.

“Drake,” she cried and held my hand tighter.

“I am here, baby. Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.” I bent and kissed her forehead.

“I was so afraid that something might happen to you, Drake. And that I would never see you again,” she whispered.

“I promised I would be back for you and our baby, Ellie. You mean everything to me, sweetie. I would never disappoint you.” I caressed her face and turned to the doctor.

“Is there something wrong, doctor?”

He smiled at me.

“Nothing, Drake. Don’t worry. I guess your baby boy has decided to show himself. Ellie is having contractions. It’s too soon for the labour to begin though,” he replied and asked the nurse to start getting things ready.

My health seemed to be improving since Natalia came back and married Blake. I had my reservations about their wedding, afraid that Blake would torture my poor girl and make her life miserable.

I was happily surprised to hear from Elias that Blake had admitted his feelings for my daughter and they made up. Natalia was happily married to him and I would soon become a grandfather. My son-in-law and I mended our broken relationship and Blake respected me the same way he respected his father, my dear friend Elias.

After my mate died, all I ever wanted was to see my daughters happy with their mates. I never expected things to turn out the way they did and be alone for ten whole years. My youngest one had returned, but Elisabeth was nowhere to be found.

My health was fragile and I prayed to see my firstborn one more time before I died. I wanted to make sure she was living a happy life like Natalia.

The last time Elias visited, we talked about my pack’s future. I could not stay in the Alpha position for long. Someone had to replace me. Natalia was now Blake’s Luna. My daughter would be more than capable to take our pack’s reins, but the distance between the Moon Howler’s pack and the Dark Moon pack was too much and that made things difficult.

I couldn’t think of anyone else who could replace me, but Natalia. I had to talk to Blake and ask him to help me replace a solution. I didn’t want to worry Natalia. She should only worry about the baby in her belly.

An idea came to my mind and I called my brother. When Jake came to my room, I asked him to drive me to Blake’s pack the following morning. I wanted to be there early in the morning before Blake left for work. I would have breakfast with him and my daughter and then talk to my son-in-law in private and replace a solution to my problem.

I couldn’t wait to visit my daughter, so at dawn, I asked Jake to help me get ready and soon we were on our way to the Dark Moon pack. I hadn’t been in a car for a long time and Jake drove slowly, preventing me from feeling nauseous and dizzy. My medication weakened me.

We arrived at around six and Jake helped me out of the car and into the packhouse. Lucas, Blake’s Beta, was surprised to see me so early in the morning.

“Welcome Alpha Ray. Is Blake expecting you?” he greeted me, bowing.

“No, Lucas. I thought I would surprise them and here I am. Where is Blake, by the way?”

As the Alpha, Blake always woke early. He had to be present at breakfast with the rest of the pack members.

“He is in the living room, Alpha Ray. Please follow me,” he said, and Jake pushed my wheelchair, following Lucas.

I entered the living room and it surprised me to see my daughter there with Blake and another young couple, sitting on the sofa. She was Elisa, Natalia’s best friend and a handsome young man who held her in his arms. Luna Alison Northwood and Dylan, her grandson, were there as well.

“Natalia? Is anything wrong, sweetie? I wheeled my chair towards her and tried to stand up with Jake’s help. For all of them to be there so early in the morning, something must have happened. And Natalia seemed exhausted and had a gloomy expression. What could have happened though?

“Dad? What are you doing here?” Natalia looked up and her face paled. Blake, who noticed her sudden paleness, pulled her in his arms and helped her up, holding her steady.

“I thought I would surprise you and have breakfast together. I haven’t seen you in a long time.” I replied pulling a long face and teasing her.

Natalia didn’t smile like she always did when I complained about her neglecting her old man and focusing on her husband.

“Natalia?” I called her name as she suddenly seemed lost in thought.

“Natalia? Blake? We need to call Tim. The doctor upstairs needs help. Elisabeth is in labour.” Elias came rushing into the room.

“Ray!” he stood there frozen.

“Elisabeth?” I looked at Natalia questioningly. I clutched my chest and growled at the sudden pain.
