He dialed King's number.

King had been faking an illness these past few days, relishing in Brielle's doting care, wishing he could spend his whole life lounging on that sofa. When he saw Dustin's name flash on his phone, his expression darkened immediately. How could this guy dare to call him after the diamond ring fiasco? That issue wasn't even resolved yet.

Dustin had claimed Brielle adored pigeon-egg-sized diamonds, the bigger, the better. Now it was clear he'd been tricked into boosting the Lynch family's earnings. King scoffed, but seeing Brielle by his side, peeling grapes for him, he decided to let it slide. "Hey, Dustin, what do you want?"

"Let's meet up."

"No way. You tricked me last time, and we haven't settled that yet."

"Fine, if you won't come, I'll just drop by and tell Brielle about that trouble she got into in North America five years ago, ending up with a kid."

King froze, his face turning pale. The relaxed posture he had on the sofa vanished, replaced by tension and a menacing look in his eyes. How could Dustin know about that? He'd been so discreet back then. Dustin, hearing the silence, knew he had hit the mark.

Driven by jealousy and the need to control, someone who calls every ten minutes, like Max, couldn't pull this off-but King could. King's gaze flickered toward Brielle. She was offering him a perfectly peeled grape. These past few days, he had been too "sore" to leave the couch or bed, and she hadn't called him out on it, indulging his whims. She was actually quite easy to please.

But when she looked up, she caught the fear in his eyes, as if he were about to lose something precious. Brielle felt a heavy weight in her chest.

"What's wrong? Is something up?"

King snapped out of his panic, clumsily covering the phone, worried Brielle might overhear Dustin's words.

"What do you want?"

If Dustin weren't Brielle's brother, just for threatening him like this, he'd make sure Dustin disappeared from this world.

"Little Y doesn't know about this,

does she? The day she asked me to dig into this, but not you, it means you're blocking her from replaceing out. She came to me for help, and she's starting to suspect. You can't hide this much longer."

King's gaze fell, vulnerability flashing across his face, his voice suddenly hoarse, as if choked up.

"I'll keep it hidden as long as I can."

After all, this happiness was stolen. From the start, Brielle only wished for him to vanish, wanting Max back.

Dustin stayed silent, unable to fully grasp these emotional intricacies. To him, relationships were more about physical connections than soulful encounters, something he hadn't experienced yet.

"Dustin, can you please drop this?"

There was a hint of pleading in his

voice. Brielle sitting beside him, realized the caller was her brother. She had asked her brother to looke into her exchange program, wondering now if he had found something. If there was a

development, why hadn't her brother

contacted her directly instead of King?

Apart from treating her and Isaac kindly, King was usually dismissive of others, even towards Dustin. He wasn't one to beg, but now, he seemed to be pleading with Dustin. Brielle frowned, King's obvious

distress making her suspect

something significant had happened

during her exchange program.

To King, perhaps the only things that mattered in this world were her and Isaac. He wouldn't bother with anything else. So, the incident during her exchange might involve her or Isaac.

But how old was Isaac now? As Brielle considered Isaac's age, a realization struck her. The timing matched Isaac's conception; how could she forget? King had an old flame, the woman who had given birth to Isaac.
