Chapter 1809 Super Brave

"Well, I don't make that call," Rose said with a yawn, "Alright, I need to video call Mia. She must be scared. I need to comfort her."

"Grandma, be careful not to over-comfort her. She has been like this before. She'd be fine on her own, but if you coddle her, she'll end up feeling wronged," Athena said helplessly.

When Mia was little, she used to fall down frequently.

But she was the kind of child who would get up immediately after a fall. If no one were around, she would go to the maid to get some medicine if her wound hurt a lot. But if there were family members nearby, especially Rose and Logan, she would cry in their arms even if there was no bruise on her skin.

Athena recalled how she'd seen Logan holding Mia in his arms while glaring at the spot where Mia had fallen as if he could take out his anger on the ground.

But after they returned to Mailand,

Mia seemed to have grown up all at once. If she fell, she'd get up, continue playing, and not make a fuss.

Last autumn, when she scraped her knee and didn't even realize it, Byron was so heartbroken when he saw it.

He wanted to call an ambulance right away and take Mia to the hospital.

But Mia remained calm.

When Byron hesitated to disinfect her wound, she took the disinfection tools herself, not even flinching as she did it.

After disinfecting it, she proudly said to her father, "I'm super brave!"

"It takes a bit of grievance to coax out the tears. It's not good if you keep everything inside. Alright, I'll figure it out myself!" Rose hung up the video call and then called Mia. As Athena passed by Mia's room, she heard Mia calling Rose in an affectionate tone, and Rose's voice was equally sweet and indulgent.

Athena smiled happily.

As she was about to go back to her bedroom.

She suddenly remembered something and turned to look at the dog's kennel.

Herbert had done a great job today and received a lot of treats. He was now a little stuffed and lay in his kennel, looking like an old monk in meditation. Athena walked back to him.

When Herbert heard her footsteps, he opened his eyes, and Athena could vaguely see him wagging his tail.

"You're usually snoring away when you're full, but what's up today?" Athena squatted down in front of Herbert and gently scratched his chin.

Athena had a gut feeling that Herbert was afraid to sleep.

"Worried about Mia, huh?" Athena asked gently.

Herbert snorted softly and then placed his chin in Athena's hand, looking at her pitifully.

"Is that so? Alright then, tonight, I'll allow you to sleep in Mia's room, but you can't jump onto the bed or the sofa. I'll put a soft cushion for you by the door, okay?"

Athena didn't know if Herbert had understood, but he nuzzled her palm a few times.

"I also contacted Mr. and Mrs. Ziegler. They've been traveling around the world for over a year. They were thinking of coming back for a visit. You'll get to see them after we return from Northern Canakey," Athena continued.

When Herbert heard Athena mention Mr. and Mrs. Ziegler, he reacted immediately.

He came out of his kennel and wagged his tail enthusiastically, circling around Athena.

Then, he sat beside her, acting all cuddly with his plump body, leaning against Athena. Athena couldn't help but smile at his reaction.

She gave his neck a good rub, and Herbert seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it.

Meanwhile, Byron stood by the window of the bedroom study, watching the scene in front of the kennel.

There was a slow, rhythmic sound, like dripping water.

It seemed to come from within Byron's body.

Yet it also felt distant, as if from a faraway place.
