No More Waiting, She Chooses Love -
Chapter 754
It didn't surprise me in the slightest when Allen made that request. And when he sent a package to Fanny using my old address, it was clear as day he was trying to drag me into his scheme. Like father, like son-he had learned well from his dad's playbook. "Mind spelling out what this is all about, Mr. Clark?" I asked, maintaining my composure without giving him the satisfaction of seeing me squirm. He thought he had leverage over me because he knew I cared about Fanny. But even if that was the truth, I couldn't let Allen see it.
"Just hand over what Ernest gave you, and we're good," Allen went straight to the point.
I laughed, "What if I told you he really didn't give me anything? Would you believe me?" Allen scoffed, "Come on, Felicia, don't play dumb."
I retorted with a mocking smile, "You might not believe it, but let me remind you, you saw firsthand the mess we were in back in Houston. After Ernest's mishap, I didn't even get to see him. The guy was cremated before I had the chance. So tell me, without any chance to connect, what could he have possibly given me?"
Allen stroked his chin, staring at me intently. I met his gaze without flinching. I couldn't afford to show any signs of weakness. "Mr. Clark, if you're genuinely convinced Ernest left something behind, I suggest you take it up with your aunt. She was closer to him than anyone."
I kicked the ball back to the Clark family court. I wasn't clear on what role Yolande was playing now, but whatever it was, letting her handle this was far better than me.
"Felicia, don't think for a second I don't know what you're up to, making my aunt the scapegoat, thinking I wouldn't dare touch her, right?" Allen wasn't fooled easily.
"That's a matter for you and your aunt to sort out. As for me, I have nothing of Ernest's. If there's anything..." I paused dramatically, "...it's probably just the scars he left me."
Pointing at my chest, I continued, "Right here. Want me to cut it open for you to have a look?"
"Oh really? I'm actually quite interested," Allen's tone was menacing. He leaned in closer, "Felicia, you do have a way with words, perfect for marketing indeed. But no matter what you say, I won't buy it."
He wasn't genuinely skeptical; this
was just his tactic to unsettle me. I wasn't about to fall for it, countering his psychological warfare. "Well, Mr. Clark, if you're so convinced I'm holding onto something, how-about this? My place, my office, feel free to search them. If you replace anything, it's yours. How about that?"
I made sure to sound completely open and honest. Allen merely chuckled, "You're not that naive."
I laughed back, "You don't believe me when I say I have nothing, and you refuse to search when I offer. Really, I don't know what you want then."
"Felicia," Allen called out my name, adopting a more serious tone, "how about we make it simple? Hand over what you have, and your best friend won't have to worry about anything. t But if you don't cooperate, Dr Willis might need to start job hunting."
His eyes, though not large, gleamed with malice. He was the devil, tempting souls into damnation. I knew exactly what he meant by "work." Fury ignited within me, and I stood up abruptly, slapping him across the face with all my might, "Allen, you even dare to touch Fanny, just you try." The force of my slap made Allen's head jerk to the side. His expression darkened as he glared at me, the playful demeanor gone.
Undeterred, I stood my ground, "Allen, you might think you're all-powerful, but remember, there's always a higher power. Don't push your luck."
With those parting words, I left,
shaking off the numbness in my arm from the slap. I didn't regret it, nor was it a rash move. It was a declaration-1, Felicia, was not to be trifled with. en Narugi
Despite my resolve, I still reached out to Yolande. "Hey," her voice sounded tired over the phone. "Ms. Clark, can we meet?" I proposed directly.
