Upon hearing that, Zachary paused.

The scene where Lenora had questioned him the other lay with reddened eyes surfaced in his mind.
She had said. "You really do love her deeply, even thinking about her on our wedding anniversary. If you love her so much, why didn't you wait for her? Why did you choose to marry me? It's not like you had no other options. Why would you demean me like this?" "I have something on that day. You can choose to reschedule it earlier or later," he replied coolly as he loosened his tic.
Susanna felt her heart sink. He has something on that day. Well, it's evident what it is.
She pushed the corners of her lips up into a smile, wrapped her arm around his, and feigned ignorance as she asked. "What is it? Can't you turn it down? It's been a while since you last celebrated my birthday." "Sorry."
"Zack, this is my first birthday since I returned to the country, and it's a rare opportunity to be with you..."
"Be good." he said in a low voice.
She could no longer force a smile.
Once she had settled into the car, her face clouded over. Recently, I've been having this nagging feeling that something is off. Zachary has already started to favor Lenord If it weren't for that old geezer, they would've been divorced a long time ago... Jonas, Avery, and the assistant director also got into their cars and departed.
Zachary watched them drive away, then turned to Lenora. "Let's go home."
After getting in the car, he moved over to her side, sliding his arm around her waist and drawing her close
to him.
The scent of expensive perfume that hit her nose caused her stomach to churn and almost made her gag. "Stay away from me." Her face was pale as she broke free from his embrace.
"What's wrong?" he asked with a frown. When he saw her distressed expression, a shadow crossed his face. "I'm fine. I just ate a little too much. I'll be okay after resting for a bit, she answered, leaning to one side.
His eyes darkened slightly, but he remained silent.
The day passed by swiftly, ushering in a new work week.

Lenora worked during the day, but before she clocked out that evening. Zachary sent her a message saying: Meet me at the parking lot after work. We're dining out tonight. She replied: Obay.
After finishing work, she immediately went to the underground parking lot. She found Zachary's car and sat in the passenger seat, waiting for him.
As she lowered her head, she noticed a small square box in the storage compartment. She knew at a glance that it was a ring box.
She opened it up to take a look, and sure enough, there was an exquisitely designed ring inside.
As she placed the ring back into the box, she could not help wondering if it was an anniversary gift he had prepared for her.
Zachary opened the car door and got in. "Have you been waiting long? Let's get going."
As he spoke, he started the car and drove out of the underground parking lot.
"Where shall we go to eat?
Dreamworth Restaurant. I've already made a reservation."
"Okay," she replied. The car came to a halt at the entrance of Dreamworth Restaurant, and a doorman approached to help Zachary park the car. Then, the pair walked into the restaurant hand in hand. A waiter led them to the private room that had been reserved.
When the door to the private room swung open, Lenora was taken aback for a moment.
The interior was adorned with elegant and festive decorations. The lighting was dim and intimate, there were flickering red candles, a large bouquet of red roses lay on the table, and several heart-shaped cushions were scattered on the couch.
It was rather romantic indeed.
"Congratulations on your third wedding anniversary. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and hope. you'll be blessed with a child soon. This is the candlelit dinner that Mr. Fuller reserved. Please, take time and enjoy." With that, the waiter left.

Zachary stepped forward and picked up the bouquet of red roses from the table. Standing in front of Lenora, he handed her the flowers. "Happy third wedding anniversary, Wifey."
Under the dim candlelight, his features were striking as though sculpted. The fullness of his brow cast sharp shadows on the hollows of his eyes, and his gaze was gentle.
She clutched the bouquet, feeling a sting in her nose when she heard him call her wifey". He has never called me that before. It seems foreign yet familiar
"Come and sit." He stepped forward and pulled out the chair next to the table. Then, he took the bouquet from her and gestured for her to sit down. The dishes served had been meticulously crafted by the restaurant.

She asked with a chuckle, "When did you make a reservation at this restaurant?"
"A week ago. What do you think about the place?"
"It's not too bad."
"I have a gift for you. He picked up the box that was nestled among the flower petals on the table a placed it in front of her. "Open it and see if you like it.
It was a square box, adorned with intricate red lacquer and carvings.
Judging by its size, it probably contained a bangle.
"I'm opening it, then." She cautiously opened the box and saw a glittering emerald bangle.
The sight of it left her stunned. It can't be any other. It looks too much like Ocean's Heart that I saw at the auction previously. But this can't be Ocean's Heart. He wouldn't take the bangle from Susanna to give it to me.
Seeing that she was dumbfounded, he explained, "You mentioned previously that Ocean's Heart was crafted from quite a large piece of emerald, enough for more than one bangle. I had someone keep an eye out for it, and it was just as you said. This is the second piece purchased from the owner."
Thank you. That's thoughtful of you," she said, closing the box and setting it aside.
"Aren't you going to try it on?"
"I'll try it on when we get home," came her reply.
Zachary may have paid a hefty price for the bangle, but she did not feel much joy.
From the very start, he had been channeling his efforts in the wrong direction.
I've no desire for a bangle similar to Ocean's Heart, not in the slightest. If I can't have Ocean's Heart, I don't want anything else. Perhaps this is my fate, always destined to come second to Susanna no matter what. Only after Susanna gets something can I have it. Lenora thought back to the exquisite ring in the car. Ifit's not a gift for me, does that mean it's a birthday gift for Susanna? In other words, has he already made arrangements to meet up with her after our candlelit dinner? He's a busy man indeed.
She asked tentatively, "I saw a ring in your car just now. It was very delicate and beautiful. I really liked it. Could you give it to me?"
Even though they had been married for three years, they did not have wedding rings.
She had once bought a pair of rings and secretly wore hers to the office. However, he refused to wear his, stating that if they both wore matching rings, others would easily discover their relationship.
In response, she had said naively. "As long as only one of us wears it, then no one will replace out."
She had taken off the ring, L
but he still never r wore his.
He simply did not want to wear it.

Later on, one of the rings was lost, and the remaining one was discarded in a corner, untouched and forgotten
"That ring was custom-made. If you like it, I can have the designer make a new one for you," he answered.
"Why can't you give me this one and have the designer create a new one for someone else?"
Zachary laughed in surprise. "Lenora, what are you talking about?"
"Just pretend that I lost my mind," she replied, lowering her gaze to hide the bitterness in her eyes.
Why, then, was he able to give my bangle to Susanna back then? The underlying reason is that he's biased. No matter what I do, I can't compete with Susanna. Judging from its design and craftsmanship, that ring must've been commissioned a long time ago with a great deal of thought and care put into it. As for my bangle, all he had to do was spend money to get it. That's the difference.
Nonetheless, he had spent a considerable amount of money on the bangle, and Lenora did not want to dampen his spirits.
Oblivious to her inner thoughts, Zachary assumed she was just being a little moody and poured her a half glass of red wine. "Care for a drink?"
Okay."
They clinked their wine glasses.
She brought the glass to his lips, taking a sip of the red wine before eating.
They were served Epean cuisine for the candlelit dinner. Just like the previous time, he placed her plate of steak in front of him and cut it into pieces before returning it to her.
"Thank you.
"You're welcome," he replied. She tasted a piece of the steak and remarked, "The flavor is quite good."
"If you like it, I'll bring you here again next time."
They picked up their wine glasses and clinked them together again. Their eyes met, and they locked gazes they drained their glasses of wine.
A flush crept up her face, though it was unclear whether it was due to the alcohol or embarrassment.
"I'm going to the restroom," he said, setting down his knife and fork before rising to leave.
As Lenora gazed at his upright figure, she touched her somewhat flushed cheeks. If he were to say he wanted to spend the night with me, I probably wouldn't reject him. Suddenly, Zachary's phone, which was on the table, started ringing.
She reached out to grab the phone and saw that the caller ID displayed on the screen was Susanna's name..
