One Girl Two Mates -
Chapter 16
EDITH POV
I glanced over my shoulder again as I made my way to my apartment. The sensation of being followed was driving my paranoia into a frenzy. I was hoping and praying to my Goddess that it wasn't that deranged rogue. I was shocked when he told me he wanted to bring back his mate from the dead. However, I needed the money, so I fed him some bullshit. Well, sort of bullshit. Only Astral witches can bring back a soul after death. So, even though I'm an Herbal witch, I pretended to be an Astral witch. Most non-witches don't know the difference between Astral, Herbal, or Elemental witches. Witches on the other hand always know another witch when they see one. Every witch is born with a white crescent moon on their forehead, it isn't visible to non-witch eyes. When I was younger I spent a few years with Astral witches. Bringing back a spirit is a long process and not always guaranteed to work. The witch must have a strong connection to the realm in which the soul resides. The new vessel must stay alive until the soul is brought back into the realm of the living. There isn't really dark or light magic, but this kind of magic is definitely frowned upon. I heard feet shuffling behind me and panicked. I threw a paralysis potion in the direction of the noise.
"Now is that any way to greet an old friend, Edith?" My back went rigid, her French accent was just as strong as the last time I saw her.
"Marjorie." I rasped, staring into the shadows and watching her emerge. She didn't look a day over twenty five even though she was four hundred years old. Her dark purple cloaked dress had intricate silver embroidery down the front and around the bell sleeves. Her blue eyes felt like they were piercing into my soul, they probably were. Astral witches were the closest witch to the otherworldly realms where the Goddess' resided.
"It's been a long time, old friend." She smiled like a cat as she approached me.
"And how may I help you, friend?" I asked, trying to keep my cool.
"I think you know why I'm here." She raised a perfectly sculpted brow.
"I haven't got a clue." I glanced over my shoulder, my apartment was only a few feet away.
"Let's go sit and have tea." She walked past me and stood at my front door. I kept my guard up and my back straight as I opened the door and let her inside. My black cat, Toast, hissed when he saw Marjorie. He ran away to hide, causing her to chuckle. Marjorie perched herself on a chair in my small kitchen. She pretended to inspect her talon-like nails, but I knew better. She was trying to probe my mind, that was one of the gifts that Astral witches had. They could see into your mind and soul, knowing your true intentions. Over the years I've created the perfect potion to keep them out.
"Your potions have grown stronger, Edith." She said as I placed her cup of tea in front of her. She took a long sip and smiled up at me.
"Lavender and camomile, my favorite."
"We were together for half of my life, how could I forget?" I watched as pain briefly flashed through her eyes. She blinked a few times, looking away.
"Why are you here, Marjorie?" She raised her eyes, gazing into mine.
"The prophecy has come true." I rolled my eyes as I leaned against the counter.
"Which one?" I replied with annoyance.
"The white wolf has been born." LILIANA POV
"Diego if you keep going soft on me I'm going to replace someone else to train me." I huffed as I stomped my foot. After a day of resting to absorb everything that has happened in the last twenty four hours. I was determined to have Diego teach me how to fight. Right now he was barely putting in any effort and it was pissing me off.
"I'm not going soft on you, I just don't want to hurt you." He looked at me with sympathetic eyes. I grunted and shoved him as hard as I could, causing him to fall flat on his a*s. He stared up at me in shock, I gave him a cocky smile as I looked down at him.
"Alright, you asked for it." He said, dusting off his work out shorts as he stood. He used this as a distraction, in the blink of an eye he was reaching for me. On instinct I grabbed his wrist, bending it slightly causing him to yelp. I twisted my body, causing him to roll over my back and slam into the ground.
"Holy crap!" I exclaimed, clapping as I jumped up and down.
"Where the hell did that come from?" He groaned as he stood, rubbing his back.
"I don't know, it's like my body took control." I laughed looking down at my hands in amazement.
"Alpha! Alpha!" Diego and I looked up to see a warrior running towards us.
"Yes, Don?" Diego addressed him.
"We have two witches at the front gate that are requesting to speak with you." He said as he panted. "Witches?" My eyes widened, I'd never met a witch before. They were considered a dying race.
"Did they say anything else?" Diego wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me close.
"No Alpha, they just asked to speak with you."
"Don, take Lili back to the pack house-"
"No, I'm going with you!" I said, cutting him off.
"Lili, what if they're dangerous?" He said, looking down at me with worry.
"I just proved that I can throw you, an Alpha, on your a*s." I c****d my brow in defiance. He let out a sigh as he squeezed me gently.
"Okay, but you stay behind me." He sent the warrior away and he removed his shorts, I looked away in embarrassment.
"Don't be so shy, mi amor, you'll soon be taking every inch of me." He howled with laughter when my face turned bright red. He shifted into his glorious black wolf, letting me climb onto his back. I leaned down on his back, tucking my face down and grabbing handfuls of his fur. I squealed when he took off, the forest rushing past us. I wanted to shift too, but he didn't want strangers to see me naked. I rolled my eyes and chuckled, possessive men. Diego slowed down a few feet from the gate so he could shift back. I handed him his shorts and shoes with my eyes closed. He just chuckled again at my shy behavior.
"Ready?" He said, holding out his hand for me to take. I nodded and he led me towards the giant gate. As we neared the gate I saw two women standing on the other side, they must be the witches. Two guards stood on our side with their arms crossed. "You two are dismissed, go back to your patrol." Diego called out to the guards.
"Yes Alpha." They said together as they sprinted off into different directions. I kept my eyes on the two women, they looked beautiful. The taller one had dark ebony skin, long dreaded hair fell down her back, piercing blue eyes staring into me. She wore a beautiful green dress with intricate marks swirling across the fabric. She looked ethereal. The shorter woman had pale, creamy skin. Her purple hair was braided down the center to show off her shaved sides. Shining silver piercings littered her face. Two on either side of her bottom lip, one in the center of her top lip, one in each cheek and each eyebrow. Her ears were covered in them too and her lobes were stretched so big you could see through the hole. She wore a simple t-shirt with some band on it and blue jeans with black combat boots. Her arms full of intricate tattoos were on full display.
"How may I help you?" Diego said, breaking the silence.
"My name is Marjorie." The dark skinned woman said in a thick French accent.
"And this is Edith." She said pointing to the purple haired woman.
"We come in peace or whatever." Edith said she had a hint of a British accent. Marjorie glanced down at her with irritation.
"What? I don't want to beat around the bush." Edith huffed, crossing her arms.
"What my friend says is true, we are here to help." Marjorie smiled, her brilliant white teeth shined.
"Help with what?" Diego said, with a raised brow, his body was tense.
"To protect the white wolf." Edith replied, staring into my eyes. I snuck a glance at Diego, he had his poker face on.
"I'm sorry I don't know what you're talking about." He replied nonchalantly.
"We don't have time for these games, she's in danger." Edith said as she pointed at me.
"What do you mean?" My brows furrowed.
"Can we talk somewhere more private?" Marjorie glanced at our surroundings.
"I don't know why, but I trust them." I looked up at Diego with pleading eyes. He sighed, closing his eyes briefly, he nodded his head.
"You can follow us." He said as he turned.
"I'll meet you there." Edith said as she threw down a tiny bottle. I watched as it exploded into a puff of blue smoke.
"Where did she go?" I gasped when I noticed that she disappeared.
"She can tend to be a bit dramatic, she teleported to your pack house." Marjorie smirked, looking at where Edith once stood. Diego opened the gate, allowing Marjorie to come inside. He shifted back into his wolf so I didn't have to walk, but he refused to let Marjorie ride. I felt so bad that she had to walk all the way.
"Sweet girl, do not feel bad for me. I have walked longer distances with broken and bloody feet, this is nothing to me." She kept a radiant smile on her face.
"It would still be nice to offer." I pointed my comment at my stubborn Alpha. Diego huffed in response, making me roll my eyes.
