Chapter 39

Third person’s POV

Jerry is happy to be out of the cell, and they give him the new Kingdom’s clothing. He is accepted into the Kingdom like Mariam, and she knows she still has to go and fetch her mother, but that she will do it. After this mission, they need to take care of first. They are going to look for Valentino, and when they replace the hunter, they will need to talk to him and see where he and his clan stand with werewolves these days. She hopes he has not changed his mind about werewolves and is still their friend. She wants to believe that, deep down, all real hunters are still friends with the werewolves and are still their allies. She, Jonathan, some of the soldiers, and Jerry run into the woods looking for Valentino and his men. They want to replace him as soon as possible while Paris and Walker are scouting out the army base. Maybe Valentino can tell them more about the army base and what it is doing there. It does not take them long to get to Valentino’s camp. He had settled on the island to make sure no one bothered the humans and their friends, the werewolves. Werewolves have helped many times to protect humans against vampires. Here on the island, vampires can be a significant problem for all of them. He hates when the vampires become cocky and move in among humans. He sees the wolves approaching him and knows there must be a massive problem as they will not come to him if something is wrong. He shows his men to stand down, as he knows Mariam. He once came across her and her mother living alone in the woods. He would always bring them stuff to eat near their cabin. He smiles as he can tell that Mariam has found a home and the young wolf with her is her mate.

“Mariam, what brings you here?” Valentino asks. He is not as young anymore, and one of these days, he will hand his leadership over to his eldest son, who is still young and a good hunter like he is. Some of his sons died over the years because they tried to take on werewolves and vampires to prove to him that they were true hunters while he knew they were not, so when he sees Jerry, he does not hold any grudges against Jerry, who killed his son. He knew that his son was trading werewolves with humans for money, and if he found him, he would kill him.

“We came to replace out what you know about the army base near our Kingdom,” Mariam says after they greet.

“Kingdom? Did the legacy come true? Are the three kingdoms one now?” Valentino asks. He is excited, as everyone on the island is waiting for it to come true.

“Yes, it is true! I will tell you all about it, but first, we need to replace out about the army base,” Mariam says.

“Well, what I know about it so far is that they started operating here a few years back when a rogue began killing people and cattle around here. I think the rogue lost his family in your wars and killed every living being that he could put his claws on. He did not care if he was caught or killed, and his wolf took over. I know a rogue is dangerous, so I went after him, but before I could get to him, he was in the hands of the human army. I could not get to him, and they tortured him until he told them about werewolves. The human army here is looking for werewolves, and I try to keep them away from the Kingdom as much as possible. My son Samuel will take over from me one of these days, and we are only trying to protect your kina as we know you will never hurt humans. We try to protect the kingdoms as far as it is in our power to do so, but they do get some wolves, and I know that Kaleb, my son, betrayed and sold some of the werewolves, and I am sorry. It would be best if you did not think I am like him. He was not a true hunter and did not do as I asked. He was a rogue like the rogue wolves that betrayed his kind,” Valentino says.

Third person’s POV

“I am sorry I killed your son, and I thought he was a human that killed my family,” Jerry says.

“It was not your fault. It was his fault for betraying his friends and selling them out. I know your family is still alive, and we need to get them out of that base. I have been trying to do so, but my men and I can not do it alone. I have spies in there as we look and act like humans. I can tell you so much about the base,” Valentino says. He and his men get ready to go to Paris and Walker, the new King and Queen of the Kingdom of Wessex. He can not wait to meet them as they are legends everyone has talked about for decades. He knows war is coming, and the Kingdom will be the only place where they will all be safe. He still does not know what or who the war will be against, but he knows that he will help the werewolves fight it as they are their true allies and will become more vital allies in the future. He can not believe he is so blessed that he will see this day coming. The day the three kingdoms of the werewolves become one. It is an old legacy, and he has been praying that he may see this day. He is glad the day has come, and they will be ready to face it together. He may be old, but not old enough to fight the day the war starts. A war that will change everything forever in this world. The hunters can run as fast as werewolves as they are humans, but also supernatural. Their senses are enhanced, faster, stronger, and more intelligent than humans. They run to where Paris and Walker are watching the base. Mariam shows them to follow them, and they follow Mariam to where Valentino and his men are waiting.

“You are the ones! I have seen you in so many visions,” Valentino says. Hunters sometimes get visions to help them in their quests. He knows what London looks like, but Paris, although she seems like London, Paris is sending out a more powerful aura. She is the one that he has been dreaming of. He could never understand why the Moon Goddess would send him a dream about London as she was a weakling in his eyes. He never thought she was powerful enough to become a queen. He is glad London is not the chosen one. Although London is a nice she-wolf, she is not made to be the Queen legends are talking about, but this strong she-wolf in front of him is the one he can see as a legend, a Queen that will protect her creatures and lead them to victory. She is a warrior Queen, and he does not want to get on her bad side. He looks at the King. What a wolf! He is as powerful as his mate. Both of them have been rejected, broken, and forgotten! They will make a great King and Queen of the werewolves, and they will one day know what to do when the wolves worldwide need them. Not only the werewolves but many humans and other creatures, primary werewolves, as the werewolf’s future, will be in danger.

“Good day, I am Valentino, and I am a hunter, but I do not hunt werewolves, only rogues,” Valentino explains before they can ask him. He is not bad and wants them to feel comfortable around him.

“We know. Jeff told us all about you and how you came here. You at first were an enemy that became a friend,” Paris says.

“Nice to meet you, hunter,” Walker says.

“The pleasure is all mine, King and Queen of werewolves,” Valentino says.

“Come on, Val, you can call us Paris and Walker since you are not a werewolf,” Paris laughs. Valentino is like Jeffrey. He is shocked that someone could shorten his name, but he smiles as he knows it is part of her personality to be casual, and he bets if she could get all the werewolves to call her by her name, she could. She is a plain werewolf, down to earth like her mate.

“Fine, I will call you by your names, but only because we are allies, and I do not like disrespecting someone’s wishes,” Val says.

“Good, or else we would have had to call you sir all the time,” Paris laughs.

“Well, actually, lord, as I was knighted when I was young by the human Queen of England a long time ago,” Val laughs.

“Okay, let’s get to business. What do you know about this army base?” Walker stops their conversation as he wants to save the wolves at the army base as soon as possible.

“I have the whole base’s plan. I sent in some spies as soldiers; scientists can not detect us and only see us as humans. Still, I do not have enough men to take them on alone. The kingdoms were busy with their wars, so I could not tell their kings about it, as the kings were not warriors anyway and would not have cared about a few more werewolves being held captive, but I can see that you care about all wolves and I feel I can trust you to help,” Val says.

“Of course, we care about all werewolves, and it is our kind, and we will leave no one behind unless he is a threat to the rest of us and we are forced to kill it,” Paris says. She is all for a good fight anyway.

“Well, the first rogue they caught was a nasty fellow. We were chasing him ourselves as he was killing everything he could get his claws on. When they caught him, I think he talked as if he did not care anymore. His wolf took over, and he did not care about his kind or anyone else,” Val says.

“So you are telling me they know to use silver bullets?” Walker asks.

“Yes, and wolfsbane to make them talk and torture the wolves they caught,” Val says.

“We will have to be careful,” Paris says.

“They are not very fast as they are only human, and humans do not have special powers like us,” Val says.

“They are also not as strong as we are. We will need to get some of their uniforms,” Walker says.

“I have plenty, but they have some detection system that can tell if you are human or werewolf as they know that one time or another, the werewolves will attack. Here are the plans for the base,” Val says as he takes out a floor plan and lays it open before them.

“I want to know what they do to the wolves they have,” Paris says.

“They do some experiments. They make the wolves shift, and they see if they can control the shifts. I do not like it, but I could do nothing about it,” Val says.

“I want the wolves freed, but we will have to kill all the humans working here so that no one can tell what is happening here. We will also have to destroy all their research,” Walker says. Like any other werewolf that is not a rogue, he does not like to kill, but there is nothing else they can do. They need to keep their kind safe and, at the same time, protect humans, but how can they do that if this place keeps running or if some of the humans get away?

“I know it is not in your nature to kill humans or other creatures that are not supposed to be evil, but sometimes one has to do what you know is right, but against your nature,” Val says.

“Valentino! Long time no see, my friend,” A familiar voice says from behind Val.

“Jeffrey, my old friend! It is so good to see you again,” Val says. Val and the rest show Jeff everything they could replace out, and Jeff shows them how people speculate that something is going on in these woods because the army is here, and some humans are even planning to visit the woods. They can not allow that to happen, so the best thing for the werewolves is to get rid of the army base as soon as possible.
