Salute To The General
Chapter 2066

Chapter 2066

At the Davier residence.

In the elegantly decorated hall, Clifford sat comfortably on his sofa as he sipped on a cup of tea.

Shae bawled at him, ranting about how Sage had turned a blind eye to Nathan's disrespectful arrogance and how Sage had disregarded the Davier family.

Clifford's brows furrowed at this.

"Nathan has already been dismissed. He is nothing but a figurehead."

"Then, why was Sage still buttering Nathan up? He didn't even think twice about disgracing our family."

Next to them, Valois snorted. "That's not surprising.

"I ran a background check on Sage.

"The fellow used to serve in the North Army, in the unit that Nathan led.

"Even though he got transferred over to Brimmopolis and is currently under the Chief Military Governor's command, the fellow is still loyal to Nathan. I bet he'll even get down on all fours and lick Nathan's boot."

Clifford nodded at his brother's words. But deep down, he couldn't stifle a feeling that something was wrong.

But he couldn't quite tell what exactly was that 'something'.

Shae's whining continued, "Uncle, Nathan's so full of himself! We can't let him get away with insulting us!

"You should have seen how Sage welcomed that jerk, Nathan. In order to lick his boot, he even offered our prized possessions to him. That's simply outrageous and unforgivable!"

Valois averted her gaze. Nervously, he spoke, "The feud between our family and Nathan is absolutely irreconcilable.

"But Sage is the Chief Military Governor's subordinate. If we want to punish a child, we need their parent's permission. Without the Governor's approval, it's best we don't mess with Sage."

Clifford raised his head. "Then, I guess we should get permission to beat up Sage."

Valois spoke cautiously, "Are you sure?" A calm expression settled on Clifford's face. "And what's wrong with that? Sage made a mistake.

"I told Sage to gift the Chief Military Governor that Wyland Huck painting on my behalf. Yet, he dared to present it to Nathan! Who does he think he is?

“I'm sure even the Chief Military Governor would feel insulted too."

"Given my status and position, I'm sure the Chief Military Governor will have to give me the due respect. Therefore, he'd have to give in to me teaching Sage a lesson."

Valois and Shae nodded eagerly.

Clifford turned to face Valois. "Of course, Sage is still the Chief Military Governor's man. We don't want to make things look ugly for the governor... "Here's what we'll do. Valois, invite the Chief Military Governor for dinner here tonight.

"I don't care how you do it, just get that man here.

"Then, I'll expose Sage's misdemeanor over dinner. Once the Chief Military Governor puts Sage back into place, I'd discuss marriage plans between our two families."

A broad grin spread across Shae's face. She tilted her head higher, overjoyed at the plan.

Nightfall.

In the study room of the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.

Nathan was dressed in a Phoenix military coat, his face still covered by the Leviathan mask. He was reviewing the submitted documents from various military regions.

Suddenly, Sage knocked on his door.

"Sir. Valois from the Davier family requests an audience with you."

Nathan chuckled. “I see the Daviers are here to pour their complaints before me.”

Sage responded in a lowered voice, "Mr. Davier has extended an invitation requesting your presence at their residence tonight. It appears that Mr. Davier wants to discuss something over dinner."

"Tell the Daviers I'm occupied," Nathan briskly responded.

"Sir," Sage hurriedly said. "Valois says that Mr Davier intends to discuss how much military funding the cab will grant this year. He also said that the Chief Military Governor's attendance is compulsory."

A shadow cast over Nathan's face. A dangerous chuckle emitted from his lips. "So Clifford's using that against me. If✈ don't do what he wants, is he going to make a fuss and reduce our funding for the year?"

Sage's head lowered. "I think he just wants to sit you down and verbally secure your cooperation."

Nathan snorted.

Sage continued with his low voice, “Will you go tonight, sir?"

Nathan let out a sneer. "Mr. Davier's gone out of his way to set up this treacherous feast. If I don't go, he might think I'm a coward.

"You make the arrangement and include tonight's dinner in my schedule." "Yes sir,” replied Sage.
