Salute To The General
Chapter 2067

Chapter 2067

Night fell and the streets were brightly lit.

At the Davier residence.

Decorations were hung everywhere as servants bustled about in preparation.

The key members of the Davier family gathered in the hall.

Clifford, the head of the family was currently sat on the grand armchair. His eyes had been shut for some time. No one knew if he was deep in thought, or if he had simply fallen asleep.

Valois paced back and forth, his face scrunched up anxiously. He kept looking outside and muttering to himself, "Why isn't he here? Where is he?" Clifford's eyes open slowly as he calmly said, "Can you keep still for a second, Valois?"

Hearing this, Valois stopped pacing. He looked at his older brother and laughed frustratedly. "The feast is already prepared, Clifford. Why isn't the Chief Military Governor here yet? Or is he not coming anymore?

"No. He should be on his way," Clifford said.

Valois's nerves crawled underneath his skin. He urged, "Clifford. We shouldn't have forced the Chief Military Governor to be here. We shouldn't have used military affairs to pressure him.

"He must've felt like you were threatening him with the military funds. Maybe he felt outraged by your threat that he's decided not to come." Clifford's lips curled upwards. "Calm yourself, Valois. The Chief Military Governor will definitely

)) come.

"Moreover, I have used military resources on purpose as the reason for our meeting. Hence, he'll have to come."

Valois said bitterly, "Clifford. The Chief Military Governor has superior power. What makes you think he won't react negatively to your threatening invitation?"

Clifford's grin faltered to a shallow smile. "He wont!"

"Lately, I noticed the Chief Military Governor seems to regard me lightly. And he keeps brushing off the proposal for marriage from our family. "He's probably forgotten that I am the Cab Secretary, the highest in command next to the President.

"All his annual military expenditures must be approved by me and the cab.

"Without my approval, all military personnel will have to live their days in starvation."

Valois responded, "Yes, Clifford, you have the power to cut off the military funds... but you can't help it if the Chief Military Governor goes ballistic." Clifford spoke confidently, "Rest assured. Even if he's angry, he won't take it out on us.

“At the end of the day, he needs me and the cab's seal of approval for their military funding.

"Besides, if he doesn't acknowledge my superiority or the great extent of my influence, he'll never take me seriously. Let alone agree to a marriage alliance with our family."

As he continued, Clifford eyed every

member of the Davier family,

including Valois. "To stand alongside the giants, you have to show them that you're of equal power, if not more."

Valois and the others nodded at his lecture.

At this moment, a servant rushed in and shouted, "Sir, they're here. The Chief Military Governor is here."

Clifford was overjoyed to hear that so he asked, "Where is he now?"

The servant answered promptly, "The Chief Military Governor's car has just arrived outside our gates.”

Clifford remained firmly on his seat. He ordered Valois and the others to go outside and welcome the Chief Military Governor.

Even though the Chief Military

Governor was a distinguished guest,

Clifford felt that his rank and position were on par with the formen Thus, he refused to personally greet the man pride.

Just like how he had lectured the others, he wanted the Chief Military Governor to know that they were both equally powerful men in their respective realms.

If they were to go against one another, both their worlds would suffer; but if they joined forces, then the whole world would be their oyster.

Unity will bring triumph but division will end in defeat.

This was Clifford's attitude.

Outside, a red sedan with a military logo on its sides parked at the Davier residence's gates. It wos accompanied by a trail of eight military jeeps. Sage, who wore a major-general uniform stepped out of the red car. He trotted to the back door and opened it.

Immediately after, Nathan exited the car. On him were his phoenix military coat and his Leviathan mask. An air of mystery and immense prestige emitted from him.

Behind them, more than thirty soldiers from the Felidae Battalion climbed off the eight jeeps. They also came dressed in military uniforms.

Just as Nathan exited the car, Valois led a group of family members, some attendants, and servants over.

"You've graced us with your presence, Chief Military Governor. It's an honor to welcome you into our home," Valois' voice projected loudly and traveled quicker than himself.

The Davier family members excitedly approached the Chief Military Governor, who was in his military uniform and wore a mask made of gold threads.

The excitement was especially clear

on Shae's face who stared at him with eyes full of sparkles and awe. She wondered what it would be like to marry this mysteriously powerful man before her. I wonder how old he is and how he looks underneath that mask...
