Salute To The General -
Chapter 2136
Chapter 2136
In just one night, everything had changed in Brimmopolis.
The prominent families and conglomerates of Brimmopolis and even the whole nation were just waiting to see how Nathan would fail miserably in the battle between him and the Davier family.
Only the handful who knew Nathan's true identity rooted for him.
However, against all odds, Nathan had triumphed over the Daviers instead.
It was rumored that the battle between the Davier family and Nathan had mobilized hundred of thousands of men, and the Daviers suffered a pervasive loss.
Clifford was charged with over ten transgressions, seized on the spot, and handed over for the President, the Cab, and the military to deal with on the three parties' discretion.
Some notable members of the Davier family had been arrested as well while some with minor transgressions were freed on the spot.
However, after they were home, they spared no time and sold off every asset they owned and refused to receive any guests.
Not a word got out about how the Daviers had lost to Nathan, leaving everyone in Brimmopolis, and even the whole of Eurasia at a loss, puzzled over the unlikely defeat of the once formidable family.
Not only did the Daviers lost to Nathan, but judging from their acts of liquidating their assets, it seemed like the herculean family did not even dare to harbor any hatred against Nathan, and had even lost the will to avenge themselves.
The streets were abuzz with speculation about what was going on.
Everyone seemed to have something to say about the matter. However, the most popular one being that the Chief Military Governor really took a liking for the Eurasia God of War, Nathan Cross and that the man had amassed a lot of incriminating evidence against the Cab secretary, Clifford Davier. It was the reason the Chief Military Governor had mobilized the whole military power of Brimmopolis to take the Davier family down and to seize Clifford Davier himself.
The news of Clifford's arrest made the headlines immediately.
The President, Cab, and the military joined forces in investigating Clifford's vice and crime.
The investigation went on for about half a month and it was time for the trial.
In the end, the joint investigation finally bore fruit.
Clifford had been convicted of corruption, bribery, abuse of power, and association with a number of murder cases. Ultimately, the President stripped the man of all of his political positions and power and sentenced the man to death.
An enigmatic smile crept up Clifford's face as he heard his death sentence. However, he pleaded guilty and made no appeal. Nathan was present at the trial as one of the
prosecutors.
Clifford's enigmatic smile did not go unnoticed.
Nathan furrowed his brows at the sight. How is the man smiling right now? The impassive, frosty smile does not befit an underdog like him. The man has been sentenced to death and his family has been condemned from ever being successful again, not in Eurasia anyway But why does the man smile like he still stands a chance?
The trial ended with Clifford being remanded and on death row.
Nathan left and went back to the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.
Late night, when Nathan and Penny had just fallen asleep.
All of a sudden, hastened footsteps could be heard approaching their door, and Ava spoke in a low voice, "Sir, I have an urgent report." Nathan was already roused by the brisk footsteps.
He got off the bed after listening to e Ava. In a swift and quiet motion, the man put on his clothes. He opened the door and headed out discreetly as he did not wish to wake his wife.
Before Ava could say anything, Nathan muttered in a low voice, "Do not wake Mrs. Cross. We'll talk in my study room."
Nathan took a seat in his study room and asked, "Fire away. What's the matter?"

"There has been a serious fire at the Onyx Penitentiary. Not only did a of guards were sacrificed, but number of inmates..." Ava added.
The Onyx Penitentiary!
It was a prison reserved to house convicts of serious political crimes. Clifford was imprisoned there as well.
There was a subtle change in Nathan's expression after he heard about the fire at Onyx Penitentiary. "How is Clifford Davier doing?"
“A burnt and indistinguishable body was found in his cell. The coroner is at work to identify whether the body was indeed Clifford," Ava reported. Nathan could not help but recall the enigmatic smile he spotted on Clifford's face when the death sentence was read out to the latter. With an icy tone, Nathan said, “No need to wait for the coroner's report. The burnt body is definitely not Clifford. Someone's helped him escape the prison.
"It seems like I've underestimated the man. I did not expect the people helping him to be able to get him out of the Onyx Penitentiary.
