So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 5
She looked at her pale reflection in the bathroom mirror, she had no other options. She bites her lips, even if she tried to get up the courage, she couldn’t do it, she needed a miracle. Olivia let out her breath, picked up her bag and headed for the exit.
Her heart was about to burst out of her chest….
[…]Caleb stood up, tired of waiting. But as he did so, his cell phone began to ring, he answered the call immediately.
-Tell me,” he listened patiently as he rolled his eyes. I’ll be right there.
He hangs up the call and walks to the exit, observes his secretary who automatically stands up.
-I have an emergency, I’ll be back in two hours.
-But sir, the…
-Cancel my appointments for those hours, call me if something very important comes up.
As Caleb left those orders with his secretary, he made his way to the exit. And at the same time Olivia came out of the bathroom and caught him leaving the reception area. Of course the CEO didn’t see her, he was so wrapped up in his own business that he didn’t notice her presence.
-Sir, what about the dress?
-I’ll take care of that,” she answers as she gets on the elevator.
Olivia wonders, still standing at the entrance to the bathroom.
-Well, you heard him. You better get back to work.
-But…
-I can’t get that garment, my boss will take care of it,” the secretary answers, sitting back down.
Olivia couldn’t get a word in edgewise, when it wasn’t one thing, it was another… she had a slight feeling that the man would personally go to the boutique to make the claim.
Resigned, she went back to the store to wait for whatever had to happen…
[…]The bag was still there on the shelf, and the owner still hadn’t shown up. Olivia looked at the place from time to time and from nowhere an electric current ran through her body. Thinking about that man was making her very sick, she needed to focus on her work. She looked at the time on her watch, noticing that it was already her turn to leave.
-The customer with the returned dress didn’t come, I guess we’ll have to wait until tomorrow,” Leticia told her, closing the register. I hope the boss doesn’t notice this little mistake.
-Thank God she’s on a trip.
-But she’ll be here tomorrow, so don’t declare victory yet. We’re still hanging on by a thread.
While Leticia closed everything, Olivia changed her clothes. Both left the hotel, the brunette immediately looked at the transport, but her companion was being waited for by her boyfriend.
Each took a different path, and just at that moment Caleb’s car arrived at the hotel. As soon as he turned off the car, he noticed that once again the same girl he saw the night before was boarding the hotel shuttle.
As he got out of the car, he stared at the young woman. She was not wearing a uniform, while the rest of those boarding the shuttle were in uniform. Caleb put his hands in his pockets as he watched the bus pull away.
Now, if he was going to have to ask what the hell was going on, he needed to know if this girl worked at the hotel or was just being given a ride home.
Arriving at his office, Caleb asked his secretary to put him in touch with the hotel manager.
-He’s not at the hotel right now, Mr. Palmer.
-Send him to my office as soon as he arrives.
-He said he would be back tomorrow, his wife went into labor and he was in the hospital with her.
That was the last straw, I would have to wait until the next day to replace out what was going on.
I would have to wait until the next day to replace out what was going on. Then he remembered about the damn dress.
-Did the sales clerk come in?
-Yes, sir. She came with the garment.
-Call her back to the boutique, and send her up.
-The store’s closed, Mr. Palmer.
The CEO rolls his eyes, he just couldn’t get it together…
-All right, you can go now.
-Thank you, sir.
[…]The next morning, as soon as Olivia entered the boutique, Leticia was waiting for her in good company. Considering her colleague’s expression due to the visit, things had gotten very ugly at work.
-Good morning, Miss Millán.
-Good morning. -Greet the owner of the boutique.
-Leticia has filled me in on everything, I see that we have a serious problem with this garment. Since it is one of the most expensive, do you know what that means?
-….
-You will go upstairs, and you will solve this matter with the customer. And you must be very tactful, since this is a very very special customer. So I suggest you change your clothes and go up to the office, he’s waiting for you.
-But it’s just that I…
-You should have checked the garment, no more when you received it, it’s the rules Olivia. Now he is irritated by this matter, we have never had this inconvenience with a prestigious client.
Olivia kept silent, she knew it was her fault, but nerves and fear betrayed her at once. Now she was paying the blame for her fault, if that client didn’t pay for the dress she would be thrown out.
-I’ll be right up.
-Of course you will.
[…]That day was not his morning, he was really quite stressed. It was always the same when he left the house. Caleb rubs his face, feeling the ravages of not being able to sleep properly. He looked at his watch, he had a meeting in half an hour, and the girl from the store still didn’t show up.
-What’s the matter with those people?
The hotel manager had not arrived at work either, if they continued like this they would make him lose his patience?
As the elevator doors opened, Olivia ran straight to the bathroom on that floor. It was too much pressure for a morning, not sunny at all. She was dead nervous, and it was all because of that client.
The young woman looked at herself in the mirror and didn’t recognize herself, she was as pale as paper. No matter how much she breathed, she could not calm down. It was silly, it really was. The brunette went into a cubicle in the bathroom and locked herself in it.
-My God, what’s happening to me?
She wonders hitting her cheeks, she couldn’t keep behaving like a teenager. She was a woman. She becomes alert when she hears someone enter the bathroom, she sits up, pinches her cheeks to acquire some natural color and gets ready to leave.
As she opened the door wide, her heart stopped beating. She just stood there, static, as if she had sprouted roots in her feet. What were her eyes seeing?
What the hell was he doing in the ladies’ room? That man was washing his hands, he was so focused that he didn’t even look up. While she was still there, looking at him like the perfect idiot.
And out of nowhere, he looked up after washing his hands and immediately his eyes connected with hers. They were looking at each other through the reflection of the mirror.
-You!
Olivia saw him turn around and that’s when she felt like she was going to faint, now she had no way to escape. It was the moment of truth, she had to admit it, the presence of that man made her very nervous.
