The Alpha Mafia King -
Chapter 61
That night when La Corporation De Sina was set ablaze, Alonzo had been in haste to get to the burning building because he wanted to get to a safe in his office.
The safe contained within it acquired deeds that had not yet been filed with the state record office, shreds of evidence that he had been piling up against some of his rivals, business papers, reports, and wills of those in the mafia family in case of their sudden death just as it was in the case of Vincenzo.
To save these irreplaceable documents, Alonzo had risked going into the fire, and he had come out with a few burns which had begun to heal after a while. That night, he had looked back at his b***d, sweat, and tears going down in flames, and he couldn’t help but wonder who would do such a thing to him.
Now, as Piccolo stood before his master in the living room of his stepfather’s house and told him about the necropsy report and its replaceing, Alonzo could only think of one person responsible for ordering the arson done to his company, and that was Alyona. The muscles of his palm contracted on the glass he was holding, breaking it as his palm bled for a little while.
“Call Mariyanna,” Alonzo said. “Tell her I didn’t survive the bullets. I want to go after Alyona with her guards fully down.”
“There’s no need to be discreet about it anymore,” Piccolo said. “Alyona’s actions are a declaration of war! I say we go to war once and for all with the Makarovs. Let’s end things in one fell swoop rather than this nonsense of an eye for an eye with the enemy. Let’s crush them completely, so we don’t have to worry about them returning for vengeance.”
Was Piccolo right, or did he at least have a point? Yes, Piccolo had a moment, but Alonzo wasn’t ready for war. Alyona was the problem, and so he wanted to deal with only her. Mariyanna, who had once looked like the shady sibling, had kept to her words when she said she wasn’t going to avenge her father’s death, while Alyona had broken her word.
Words that were sacredly uttered in his bedroom during those unholy moments when they were relishing in each other’s arms.
“Pico, do as I say. Call Mariyanna and tell her I didn’t survive,” Alonzo said, going to sit on the couch.
Piccolo came to sit next to him, and he made the call to Mariyanna. He decided it was best to leave Alonzo to deal with this whole mess as he saw fit.

“Who were you talking to?” Alyona asked Mariyanna entering the living room. She had overheard Mariyanna gasp and offered words of consolation before dropping the call.
“That was Piccolo,” Mariyanna answered. “Calling to inform me regrettably that Alonzo and Bianco are dead.”
“Well, do they know?”
“No, it seems they haven’t figured out yet that you had a hand in their deaths. Pico said Bianco died on the spot when Draper and his men opened fire.”
“What of Alonzo?”
“He was unconscious when he was brought into the ICU. He died in the ICU, unable to explain why Draper turned on him. Are you happy now? You got your revenge. However, Piccolo is inviting us for the burial.”
Alyona scoffed, rearranging strands of her hair that had fallen out of place.
“You realize that I won’t be attending, right?” Alyona said. “And you shouldn’t either because it might be a trap.”
“I lack a sense of humor, not brains,” Mariyanna said. “However, I hope you realize soon they will put the pieces together, and you’ll still be haunted down.”
“I’m not afraid of them coming after me,” Alyona said. “I’m bracing up for that moment. If our families must go to war, I’d like to fight in familiar territory.”
“Well, I get what you mean. It will save us a lot of stress if you just did us all a favor by dying here. We could easily bury you in Russia.”
“Come on. It isn’t funny, Mariyanna. My fight is your fight, remember?”
“Of course, your fight is mine, sis! How can I forget?” Mariyanna said, making a sweet face.
“Alright.”
“But hey, war is war, and victories are not declared until the fight is over, so if we are going into something as uncertain as war, I would suggest we start preparing our wills.” Mariyanna might have said what she said as a joke, but Alyona took it to heart.
“Mariyanna, there’s something you need to know,” Alyona said, and Mariyanna gave her a quizzical look.
“You are so full of bad news, aren’t you?”
Alyona shrugged and said, “Well, you tell me if this is bad news. I am pregnant with Alonzo’s child.”
Mariyanna’s jaw dropped, and it took a while before the words she wanted to say could come out, “Oh my God! What will you do now that you’ve murdered the father of your unborn child? In years to come, that child would want to know his father.”
“I can only imagine, but I’ve decided I will have this child.”
“Yes, you should keep the child, and hey, do you know this is good news?”
“How? What do you mean?”
“We are two families on the brink of war, and this adorable child of yours could solve all of our problems at once. We can use the fact that you’re carrying Alonzo’s little chum-chum to end the war and get away with his murder.”
Alyona shook her head slowly and replied coldly, “I don’t want this child to have anything to do with the Marcovic. This child is and only would be a Makarov. And oh sis, my child will not be used as a bargaining chip.”
“Okay, sis, whatever you decide, I’ll be there to support you. We mustn’t lose the war then.”
“We won’t,” Alyona said, making up her mind to do whatever she could to ensure they win the impending war.
“That’s the spirit. So what are we naming this child?”
“For real? Oh gosh, come on, I just found out about the pregnancy.”
“Pick your poison!”
“Sorry, what?”
“I said pick your poison. Either I name the child, or I’ll be that child’s godmother,” Mariyanna said.
“How about none?”
“Oh, Sorella, mi stai spezzando il cuore!”
Alyona rolled her eyes multiple times but didn’t comment on Mariyanna, saying she was breaking her heart.
“Well, I’ve got to run along now,” Mariyanna added when Alyona didn’t reply.
It was always hell for Mariynanna to pretend she had a fraction of affection for her sister. As she walked away from the living room, her thoughts were occupied by different things.
As for Alyona, the moment Mariyanna had left was a moment of clarity for her. She could use the silence to think now. Part of her felt guilty for having orchestrated the event that led to the killing of Alonzo, and instinctively she touched her stomach.
She was a loose cannon, and that was why her father wanted her to take charge of the Mafia. All it had taken for Alyona to snap was just one wrong move on Alonzo’s path.

“It’s impossible,” Callisto blurted out almost laughingly. “Alonzo and Bianco can’t be dead. They must be playing you guys for a fool.”
“Why are you so certain?” Mariyanna asked.
“It’s irrelevant to you,” Callisto said, coughing and wheezing for a while. “But I’ll watch my back if I was you, or you can pay me protection money to have it done for you.”
“I’m sure I can have my back,” Mariyanna said.
“For a moment, I thought you had news for me,” Callisto said, sounding disappointed.
“I do have news for you,” Mariyanna said.
“Let’s try this one more time. Surprise me.”
“Alyona is pregnant with Alonzo’s child,” Mariyanna said. “I’m tired of stalling. I’ve let go of several opportunities to end her once and for all. I came here to inform you that my patience is starting to wane.”
Mariyanna ended the call and placed the phone on her chest. So Callisto believed that Alonzo was not dead. She would have warned Alyona, but she would leave her to suffer the consequences of her actions.
A thought crossed Mariyanna’s mind as she looked out of the glass walls of the restaurant she was in. What if Alonzo gets to Alyona before Callisto can execute his plan, and somehow, the two lovebirds reconcile because of the child. She hadn’t known Alonzo too well to vouch that he wouldn’t replace it in his heart to forgive Alyona.
Callisto had been the problem. In more than one way, he had been shielding Alyona from harm. First, one of Callisto’s men had saved Alyona when she had sent Agent Fox to take her out weeks ago when she first came to Russia after her disappearance.
Mariyanna was hesitant to harm Alyona before Callisto was ready because she feared getting into a war with the monster. Suddenly her haunt for her sister’s head had been taken over by someone else with a thirst for vengeance.
She figured she had nothing to lose if she let the stranger Callisto deal with her sister just as long as he kept to his words of not hurting Alonzo physically. Callisto assured her that he only wanted to cause Alonzo emotional pain and suffering.
