It was the morning of the big day for the werewolves. The day when the werewolf king would abdicate his throne to his daughter. The event would probably last the entire night, but Alonzo didn’t need to be there until six p.m.

Alonzo had barely slept the previous night after bonding with his pack mates. He had returned to his room and had stayed up all night mostly thinking about his life and how best to proceed with his new reality.

He was planning on catching some sleep when a knock disrupted the plan. He already perceived who it was that was standing behind the door.

“The door’s unlocked,” Alonzo said. “You may come in.”

Piccolo pushed the door open and his feet made shuffling sounds as he proceeded to the bedside where Alonzo was sitting. He spun a chair around to face Alonzo, sitting down. “It looks like someone was up all night. Yeah, I couldn’t catch much sleep either.”

“What do you want, Pico? I was going to sleep before you came knocking.” Alonzo stifled a yawn.

“Yeah, um, so I wanted to inform you that I’ve gotten someone to confess to the bombing at the casino but his demands are somewhat outrageous.”

“I’m listening,” Alonzo said casually.

“Okay, fine, so he wants his wife to be paid a million dollars, he wants a guarantee that we would be able to get him out of jail within a year, and also, he wants his first son to be inducted into the gang.”

“Is he Italian?”

“Of course,” Piccolo answered.

“Alright, proceed. Let’s give him what he wants.”

“Really? One million dollars on top of all that?”

“Mhm yeah,” Alonzo finalized. “How about the detective?”

“Right, our associates at the police department have assured me that he’s going to be thrown off the case due to some gross misconduct they pulled up in his file.”

“Ciao ciao detective,” Alonzo whispered.

“Yeap.” Piccolo rose, positioning the chair back to how he had met it. “Um, so I’m going to ensure that everything goes according to plan and make some quick stops before tonight’s event.”

“Be gone,” Alonzo said, waving his hand at his friend. “And oh, Pico, you better not show up late else I will kill you.”

Piccolo laughed. “Is that a threat?”

“Just try me and see,” Alonzo replied seriously.

Alonzo fell on the bed the moment Piccolo had shut the door behind him and drifted into a long dreamy sleep. He dreamt of himself and Alyona getting married and Mazza bore witness to their wedding. Moments later, he found himself with Alyona back at his home in Italy and she was welcoming him with their two children, a boy, and a girl. He woke up, covered in sweat even though the air conditioning was functioning.

Picking up his phone from the bedside, Alonzo pressed the power button as the screen lit up and he checked the time. It was just three o’clock in the afternoon. He still had time for some miscellaneous activities before the event.

Alonzo donned his footwear and came out of the room. He wondered where Bianco and the others were. Sniffing the air he caught Leonardo’s scent and he traced it to the hotel’s poolside. Only a handful of people were there. Leonardo was shirtless and he was about to dive into the pool, but he paused when he noticed Alonzo walking up to him.

“Hello boss,” Leonardo said, as soon as Alonzo came face to face with him.

“Hey son, why’d you stop? Go ahead, take a dive, swim!” Alonzo said, pushing Leonardo into the water.

It took Leonardo a moment to stabilize himself inside the pool and rather than feel offended, he started laughing. “Whatever gave you the idea that I could swim?”

Alonzo stood by the edge of the pool. “You were about to dive.”

“Yeah, I know, but I’ve been standing there for over ten minutes in contemplation. You see, swimming isn’t my thing.”

“Hmm, you can’t learn to swim without getting into the water, so be glad I threw you in.”

“Fine! I’m glad, now what?” Leonardo inquired. “I’m in the pool but have no idea how to move, which is why I’m just standing afloat, on my tippy toes.”

Alonzo scoffed. “Just flap your arms and legs around.”

A beautiful lady swam toward Leonardo, she stopped beside him, and she said, “Hello there, I heard you say you can’t swim and I happen to be one of the best swimmers you’d ever come across, so I was hoping I could show you a thing or two.”

“Yes, please, you can teach me some lessons.” Leonardo turned his attention to her, offering a thin smile.

“Nice,” Alonzo muttered under his breath. “Learn well Leonardo, but don’t forget about tonight’s event.”

“Wait, you aren’t going to stay to watch?” Leonardo asked, sounding surprised.

“No, I’m looking for Bianco, do you know where he went?”

“Oh yeah, he said something about taking a run in the woods.” Leonardo turned to the lady with a disarming smile. He did so just in case his sentence bothered her.

“Alright, I guess I could use some time in the woods too,” Alonzo said, turning to leave. “Have fun,” he added.

By five p.m. everyone was back in the hotel, each getting ready in their room for the big night. They were dressed officially in black suits and ties.

Alonzo, Piccolo, and Leonardo rode in one car, while Bianco and Vincenzo took another. They hadn’t gone with extra security because the event was for werewolves only.

Upon arriving at the King’s palace, the royal guards searched them before admitting them into the building. Soft music and people chattering could be heard. The place was crowded. Alonzo led his pack down to their table and they sat down.

“Wow, so many people,” Leonardo commented. “And you mean everyone here is a werewolf?”

“Yes, every single one of them,” Vincenzo replied.

“Ours is by far the smallest pack in this gathering,” Bianco said, through his teeth.

“And also the one without any females, right?” Leonardo said, continuing to feel amazed by what he was seeing.

“Something like that,” Bianco replied.

“But that’s not true,” Piccolo interjected.

“What’s not true?” Leonardo asked confidently.

“Our pack isn’t the smallest and the only one lacking a female werewolf,” Piccolo explained. “Antonio’s pack has the least number of werewolves and there aren’t any females.”

“That’s true,” Alonzo said thoughtfully. “Where is Antonio by the way?”

“It beats me,” Piccolo said. “I’ve been scanning the entire place for him since we stepped in but it seems he hasn’t arrived yet.”

“It’s a crime to miss this event right?” Leonardo asked.

“Punishable by death,” Vincenzo lowered his voice.

“I’m sure he’ll show up,” Piccolo said. “He has a big part to play in tonight’s event.”

An American couple could be seen walking in their direction and Alonzo recognized them as one of the alphas and lunas but what could they possibly want with him?

“Mr. Alonzo, we are very sorry to learn about the demise of your grandfather,” Jackson said, and his wife repeated almost the same thing.

Alonzo stood up to receive them. “Thank you so much for your sympathy.”

The news about his grandfather’s death seemed to have circulated and in next to no time people started coming to offer more sympathy and Alonzo received them all with warmness.

Shortly after, there was a tinkling sound and everyone whipped their heads in the direction of the sound. The king’s aide was about to make the first round of announcements. The King himself was sitting at the high table with his gorgeous daughter.

“Settle down, settle down, I welcome everyone in the name of the King!” The king’s aide began, opening a scroll. “We will like to start tonight’s event with the wrestling matches. We will be witnessing the fight between the omega’s of different packs first.”

“That’s it, Leo, you’re up!” Alonzo said, slapping Leonardo’s arm. “Go crush them.”

Leonardo gulped, frightened by the realization that he was about to be thrown into the fighting ring. The number of packs in attendance boiled down to nine in total, meaning he had to compete with eight or so others to make it to the final round. Each fight lasted for three minutes. Alonzo had explained the gritty details to him.

“Go, Leo! You can do this!” Piccolo said. “Don’t be a chicken now! All that talk about becoming a true Alpha, it’s time to prove your worth.”

Leonardo exhaled sharply as he rose. He walked towards the ring where other omega’s had started to gather. They were asked to each write down their names. Then the paper was folded into a cup where the names got pulled out at random to select the first two fighters. Leonardo almost felt a crushing amount of devastation when he was the first name drawn from the cup. His opponent was several times bigger than him and he wondered how such a guy could even be an omega.
