The Alpha’s Unwanted Mate Chapter 115 Book 2 Chapter 47
“Is it…it is true…? Was it all a lie?”
Xavier looked towards the walls, not answering.
Celeste stepped closer to the cell. “Answer me, Xavier….was it all fake? Was I just a pawn? Someone disposable? Was I j-just being used?” Her shaky hands reached for the rusty bars, gripping them tight. “I was willing to let you mark me…at one point I was willing to choose yo—”
“But you didn’t choose me, did you? I can’t pick up your scent and yet I know Zillon’s mark’s on your neck. You weren’t going to choose me, Celeste! Doesn’t that make me a f*cking pawn too? I was being used as well…you didn’t love me and I knew it and yet…” He looked towards her. “That didn’t stop me from loving you.”
“Xavie—”
“I was just a replacement…now that the real deal’s back…I’m stashed aside, no longer wanted, no longer being used and then you’re here crying because I used you? You did the same, Celeste…feel guilty too.”
“I…I didn’t, I—”
“And to answer your question…it was never fake, none of it. I never lied about anything I told you… you were the one who lied, you’re the cruel one here…I should be crying, not you.”
“I didn’t lie eithe—”
“You did, whether you were conscious of it or not and I knew…I could see it in your eyes. There was always this distant longing and I knew just who you longed for. It wasn’t me, it was never me, Celeste.”
Celeste wiped at her eyes, the pain in her heart only increasing. Was this the truth? Was she really the one to blame? Was she the one who forged her feelings? Who played him…who used h—
Celeste shook her head, it couldn’t be, her feelings were true —if not as much as she did Zillon, if not romantically— she did love him…she had loved him so much.
“You don’t know what you’re saying, you aren’t my heart, you can’t feel my emotions. I never played you…I never used you…it’s the other way around. I’d never stab you in the back like you’ve proven to stab me, I’d never plot to kill you…I’d never do this to you Xavier and I honestly thought you would never do this to me either. They tried to convince me that you’re evil, they tried to convince me that you weren’t someone that I can trust and everytime I defended you.
‘Xavier’s too innocent to do such things…’
‘There must be some misunderstandings…’
‘You’re lying…’
Something along those lines were always my reply, but I was the one lying to myself…you’re evil, you’re vile…you’re somebody I should’ve never loved.”
Celeste turned her back to him, her shaking fingers clenching into fists as she stumped her way towards the exit. “I hope Zillon takes everything that you’ve taken from him back…all the lives…all the b***d…he should destroy you like you plotted to destroy him.”
Xavier clenched his jaw, her words wrecking havoc in his heart. “It wasn’t…it wasn’t me…”
The pitifully whispered words had Celeste stopping in her tracks and turning to stare at him. “What?”
“It wasn’t me dammit! It wasn’t me!” Tears ran down his eyes as he shouted at her, his dirty cheeks wetting. “I shouldn’t be locked in this f*cking cage…I shouldn’t be here because I did nothing wrong…those attacks, I know nothing about them…the dead pack members…I didn’t kill them.”
“W-What?” Celeste turned to look at him, stepping back over to his prison cell. “What did you say?”
“I said it wasn’t me, I didn’t do it.”
“Then who did? We have no enemy, we’re one of the biggest packs and we’re at peace with every other clan.” Zillon stepped forward. “No other pack would come for us, we’re second to the Alpha king’s pack…who’d be so bold to come after us if not rogues?”
“Not my rogues..we live for peace…”
“Then why did you say something different…why did you attest to being the criminal…? Why did you confess to wanting revenge? Why did you promise my pack death…? Why?”
“Because I wanted you to feel pain too…I wanted to hurt you and just thinking it was me would make it more painful for you… I didn’t plan on using Celeste either, but just seeing the pain in your eyes had me wanting you to feel more. I wanted you to suffer like I did…but now I realized that I’ll suffer too.” He turned away, clenching his jaw tighter. “I want to go back to my pack…I don’t want to stay here anymore…it hurts too much.”
“I don’t believe you…I want proof.”
“I don’t have any…but while taking down my men didn’t it occur to you that they were weak? None of them are of high rank except for Gabriel and he can’t take down so many men by himself. He’s a beta born from the womb of an abandoned omega…she didn’t live long enough to see him grow so big and so strong. Most of the rogues I lived amongst have a story they’re afraid to tell…do you think I’d take them in, nurture them just so I could use them for revenge? I’m not that cruel…”
“Then if it really wasn’t you —not that I believe— then who could it be? They know about mask…they know how to use it…who could they be? They must be strong to take down the wolves then disappear before anyone can see them. They’re aim is impossibly accurate…there’s no other bruise except for a bite mark around the neck.” Zillon looked towards Liam who finally stepped out of hiding. “It probably wasn’t you…but I’d have to investigate more to be sure.”
He stepped away from the cell, grabbing at Celeste’s hand. “We’ll be visiting you again.”
