Chapter 864

Isaac didn't want Brittany to get her hands dirty.

"She hurt Daniel."

Isaac sensed the mood dip and sat up. "After you head back to the Capital, handle it however you see fit."

His words implied acceptance of Brittany's proposal.

Satisfied, Brittany chatted about other matters. Before hanging up, her voice softened, "Zakky, I really treasure what we have, so I don't want some outsider ruining it for us." Isaac reached out, his fingertip lingering on her face on the screen, as if touching something delicate, a hint of joy flickering in his eyes. "You're what matters most.

With Isaac's permission, Brittany sealed the deal and rushed back to Imperial City.

Charles, smitten with his new flame, stayed behind to revel in romance.

Brittany sent her best wishes.

Upon landing, Emily picked her up and drove her straight to Salter Manor, where Grace, still recovering, planned a family feast.

Once Brittany settled in the car, Emily handed her a water bottle. "Ms. Dustin, here's some lemonade to freshen you up."

"Thank you."

The sour lemon hit her stomach like a wake-up call.

"Ms. Dustin, you must be exhausted. Grace had me prepare some broth for you. Once we're at Salter Manor, rest up, and I'll invite you down for dinner later."

Brittany knew Emily was ever so thorough. "Thank you, Emily."

Arriving at Salter Manor, Brittany headed straight to the third floor.

After freshening up, she lay down for a nap and slept soundly.

Waking up, she found herself entangled with Isaac. His eyes were closed, likely asleep as well. Brittany shifted, trying to get up, but he held her firmly, pulling her in. "Stay, sleep a little longer." Brittany blushed slightly, smelling the pine scent on him. "This is Salter Manor. Behave." Isaac was awake now, his hand resting on her waist. "Still mad?"

Brittany stayed silent.

"Joie ruined your face before," he said in a husky voice. "Shall I make her pay back tenfold?"

"What did you do?" Brittany focused on the crux, staring at Isaac.

His expression turned icy. "She hurt you. I couldn't let her off easy."

The scar on Brittany's face had healed without a trace, but he still felt pained.

If not for him, Joie wouldn't have lashed out at Brittany, nor would she have gotten away scot-free.

He had wanted to consider the bigger picture. Yet, it was Brittany who got hurt.

Brittany was surprised by his ruthlessness.

In that moment, she felt Joie got what she deserved!

"I tried to be fair before, but you were the one who ended up hurt." Isaac sighed at the quirks of fate.

He wanted to stand up for Brittany, but Joie had obligations to the Salter family.

Brittany exhaled deeply, "Zakky, despite your help, I still want Joie."

"I'll hand her over to you, but you can't take her life."

Brittany's expression shifted. "Are you soft on her?"

"No." Realizing Brittany misunderstood, Isaac gripped her hand tightly. "I don't care for her; I just don't want you stained with blood. As long as she's barely breathing, do what you will." Brittany was somewhat appeased and got up from Isaac's embrace. "It's getting late, time for dinner."

Isaac leaned against the headboard, his gaze lingering on her waist before he stood up and approached her.

He wrapped his arms around Brittany, his chin resting on her shoulder. "Can I skip the guest room tonight?" Brittany sensed his vulnerability.

With a slight smile, she teased, "If you behave."

Isaac captured her earlobe, whispering sweet nothings that sent shivers down Brittany's spine and left a blush on her neck.
