The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 188 Almost an Encounter
After all that back and forth, Emily ended up spending two hours at the hospital, with Daniel by her side the whole time. Some colleagues passing by even thought he might be secretly married! "Daniel, thanks a ton for today," Emily said.
As they were about to leave, Daniel stuck around a bit longer. But then, someone called him to the operating room, so they had to part ways.
Emily sighed in relief and headed for the elevator. Just as the doors opened, she saw Michael and Andrew inside!
Luckily, they were both glued to their phones, so Emily quickly slipped away. But Michael sensed something and glanced in her direction.
Even though he only caught a glimpse of her back, Michael felt something was off.
"Is this the obstetrics and gynecology floor?" he asked Andrew, who had followed him out.
Andrew nodded, puzzled. "Yeah, Mr. Smith, we haven't reached the first floor yet."
"I know," Michael said, still looking ahead.
Andrew was baffled and thought to himself, 'If you know, why'd you get off the elevator? Don't you know how hard it is to catch one in a hospital?'
Emily bolted from the elevator area like a cheetah. She couldn't imagine what would happen if Michael caught her in the obstetrics and gynecology department! But why was Michael at the hospital? Was he hurt?
The thought made Emily anxious. She decided to take another elevator and left the hospital, looking around nervously before heading back to Emerald Lake Manor.
To her surprise, Michael, who should've been back at the office, was waiting for her outside Emerald Lake Manor. He was alone, sitting on a swing with his legs crossed, looking totally out of place.
A taxi was no match for a supercar's speed. Michael knew this all too well.
Seeing Emily return, his suspicions were halfway confirmed. Noticing she was wearing the same light blue shirt and had the same wavy hair as the person he saw at the hospital, his suspicions grew even stronger. "Where'd you go?" Michael asked.
"The hospital," Emily replied quickly, knowing Michael was suspicious. She decided to mix truth with lies and avoided eye contact as she walked towards the door.
So she did go to the hospital. He knew he wasn't mistaken!
Michael quickly followed. "Why'd you go to the hospital?"
"To see my mom," Emily said.
Right, her mom was still in the hospital. Michael had momentarily forgotten.
"Isn't your mom in another building? Why did I see you in the obstetrics and gynecology department today?" Michael pressed, unable to shake his suspicions.
"Obstetrics and gynecology?" Emily said as she changed her shoes, still avoiding eye contact with Michael. "I didn't go to that department. You must've mistaken me for someone else. By the way, why were you at the hospital?" Michael was caught off guard. How could he admit he went to the emergency room for low blood sugar?
"I went to visit a friend," he replied.
Emily couldn't help but sneer. She looked Michael in the eye. "Visiting a friend in the obstetrics and gynecology department? A girlfriend?"
With that, Emily sighed and brushed past Michael. She had anticipated this situation many times. Emily knew Michael wasn't a devoted person. If it wasn't for Sophia, he wouldn't be for her. After all these years, she had loved the wrong person. "What nonsense! I was just passing by the obstetrics and gynecology department. I went to the emergency room!" Michael hurriedly explained. He didn't know why, but he didn't want her to misunderstand.
Ava, who had prepared the meal, saw the couple walking into the dining room, one calm and the other agitated.
Not knowing what had happened, she quickly said, "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, dinner is ready."
Emily smiled at Ava and then pulled out a chair to eat. Looking down, she saw a plate of spicy Mexican food. She frowned. "Ava, did you make this?"
Ava quickly shook her head. "No, Mr. Smith brought it from outside."
Emily looked at Michael. He had a proud expression. "What? Do you want to thank me?"
Michael knew Emily had been craving spicy food lately and thought she would love this dish. After all, Andrew had highly recommended it, saying it was very popular.
Seeing this, Emily couldn't say much. After almost getting caught at the hospital, she couldn't afford any more mistakes. She obediently sat down, picked up a fork, and forced a smile. "It's rare to see you being so considerate. I'm flattered." Michael's face darkened, and even his chair-pulling movements became harsh.
Emily's sarcasm was indeed sharp. Ava sensed it and quickly left the scene.
Emily tried to stick to the mild dishes Ava had made. After all, she had just had a check-up, and the doctor had said her pregnancy symptoms were severe, with some indicators being high. If she ate the spicy dish, she might be in trouble. But Michael insisted on making things difficult. He picked up the tongs, tapped them, and then provocatively placed some of the spicy dishes on Emily's plate. "I bought it, why aren't you eating it? Don't you like it, or don't you want to eat what I bought? We live together and are married. Is it really good to be so harsh?"
It was just a plate of Mexican food, yet he could say so much. Emily rolled her eyes internally but had to admire Michael's shameless persistence. "I'll eat it. Mr. Smith, you should eat more too. You work hard and need to replenish your nutrition."
With that, Emily squinted and reluctantly picked up some of the dish, placing it on Michael's plate. The two continued to pass the dish to each other. The spicy aroma filled their noses instantly.
