The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 189 The Trouble Caused by Mexican Food

Luckily, the Smith Mansion had plenty of bathrooms, or else Michael and Emily would've been in big trouble. Each of them was hunched over a toilet, puking their guts out, looking as pale as ghosts. Ava, seeing the mess, freaked out, thinking it was her cooking. "What the heck? I washed the veggies super well, and the meat was fresh. I spent ages on that meal. Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, are you guys okay?" "I'm fine," Emily managed to say first. She knew exactly why she was puking. Just thinking about that plate of Mexican food made her want to strangle Michael.

Michael groaned, "Ava, toss that dish I bought!"

Emily noticed Michael was also throwing up. Could it really be that dish?

"Something's definitely off," Michael muttered, feeling uneasy.

But it wasn't the food; it was Emily. Thinking back on their time together and the weird connection he felt, Michael started to suspect something.

Why was Emily always feeling sick? Her eating habits had changed too. If he was sick because of her, why did she get nauseous just looking at that Mexican dish? Could it be a stomach issue?

But they were always together, and Michael had never seen her take any stomach meds. So why was she puking? Maybe it wasn't a stomach problem at all!

Suddenly, a scary thought hit Michael. Could Emily be pregnant?

Emily stopped eating and asked Ava to make some sour soup and bring it upstairs.

Meanwhile, Michael stared at the Mexican dish and realized he didn't feel like puking anymore.

After a bit of hesitation, he grabbed a fork, took a bite of the meat, and... it was delicious!

So he was fine. The problem was with Emily!

Michael didn't know if she was pregnant, but today's events made him more suspicious. He couldn't hold back any longer and went upstairs. "Emily, are you pregnant?" Emily almost spat out her food at his blunt question.

"What did you say?" She felt a bit nervous but quickly calmed down, knowing Michael liked to trick people into telling the truth. "Are you out of your mind?"

"No, you went to the OB-GYN at the hospital, and now you're puking at home. It's hard not to overthink, Mrs. Smith!" Michael emphasized "Mrs. Smith."

To Emily, it sounded like he was mocking her. Of course, he didn't want a kid, so he wouldn't be nice about it. But luckily, he had no proof.

Emily wasn't scared and kept arguing. "Michael, how many times do I have to tell you, I didn't go to any OB-GYN."

But Michael wouldn't let it go. "Even if you didn't go, we should go check it out. Seeing you this sick worries me. If something happens to you, Grandpa will have my head."

Emily took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Mr. Smith, stop pretending you care about me, alright? It's just a stomach issue, and you brought back that spicy dish. Makes me think you're trying to make me worse, aren't you?" Emily had never been this argumentative before. She was always by his side, but now she seemed different.

Michael, getting frustrated, snapped, "Emily, don't reject my concern, or you'll regret it."

Emily shot back, "Right back at you, Mr. Smith. Stop pretending to care. We're just partners now, not a couple, so drop the act."

What started as a simple argument turned emotional. Emily didn't know why, but tears started to well up. She resented Michael for not caring and herself for still loving him. They weren't a couple anymore, so why pretend? Michael, seeing her tears, didn't know what to say. "If you don't want to go, fine. I've got work to do at the company."

Not knowing how to handle Emily's tears and losing the will to argue, Michael made an excuse and left Emerald Lake Manor.

As she heard his footsteps fade and the roar of his sports car, Emily couldn't hold back anymore. She cried, her heart aching, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.

She didn't remember how long she cried that day. She only remembered washing her face in the bathroom, her cheeks red and eyes swollen. When she stepped out, she ran into Ava, who looked shocked. Three days later.

Michael asked, "She hasn't come to work today?"

He had avoided going home, sleeping at the company for three days. But Emily hadn't shown up at work either, and Michael didn't know how to reach her. So he had Andrew call home several times. The first day, the message was, "Mrs. Smith said she's not feeling well and won't come today."

The second day, the message was, "Mrs. Smith said she has a meeting at JM Jewelry and will decide later if she'll come to the company."

The third day, the message was, "Mrs. Smith said Mr. Watson asked her to meet with the operations director of JM Jewelry, she's very busy and can't come."

Now it was the fourth day, and Michael was fed up with hearing that Emily wasn't coming to work. He was tempted to drive to Watson Corporation and confront Bryan about it.

Michael didn't mind Emily having her own career. Since Watson Corporation and Smith Corporation were partners, it wasn't a big deal for her to focus on that.

But in the end, the two companies were competitors, and as a member of the Smith family, she couldn't go too far, right?

Or was Emily deliberately avoiding him?
