The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 192 Signs of Life
Emily flagged down a taxi, lugging a trunk full of her stuff.
Emily had no idea where she was headed, only that she was drifting further and further from Emerald Lake Manor.
This time, she didn't say goodbye to anyone-not Mason, Veda, or even Abigail.
Right now, she only wanted to see one person: Isabella.
It wasn't until the driver snapped her out of her daze that she gave him the hospital's address.
After stashing her luggage, Emily, feeling like a zombie, made her way to Isabella's VIP room.
The only thing that could cheer her up was that Isabella had been moved to a nicer room.
The new room had fresh flowers every day, a humidifier to keep the air nice, and a spacious, quiet area where Emily could cry her heart out in front of Isabella. That feeling was beyond words.
Seeing Isabella, Emily felt a sharp pain, like a piece of her heart was missing, and she couldn't hold back her tears. "Mom, I messed up. I shouldn't have fallen for Michael, shouldn't have married him, and shouldn't have dragged out the divorce."
"Mom, this hurts so much, but the kid is innocent. How do I face my child? How do I tell them their dad's a mess?"
"Mom, I ended up just like you, falling for the wrong guy. We both lost big time. Mom, please wake up. Let's run away and never come back. I'm begging you, Mom, I'm really hurting. We shouldn't be like this."
Crying, Emily lay on Isabella. That feeling of being wronged just burst out when she saw her only support, making it even harder to control.
But in the middle of her sadness, Emily suddenly felt something move.
She froze, her body stiffening, like the air around her had turned solid.
A moment later, Emily realized Isabella had moved. She instinctively looked over and saw Isabella's fingers twitch. Emily was completely stunned.
Then she snapped out of it, wiped her tears, and rushed out to get the doctors and nurses.
She had no idea how long she waited outside, her mind blank, until the doctor came out.
Isabella had been checked, and now Emily was just waiting for some good news.
The doctor said, "Your mom did move. But I haven't seen any signs she'll wake up. It's normal for vegetative patients to have occasional reactions, but when the next one will be... we can't say." Even the doctor couldn't say. So it seemed hope was slim. The hope that had just sparked was snuffed out instantly.
Emily took a deep breath, and just as she thanked the doctor, her legs gave out, and she almost hit the floor.
Luckily, Daniel had rushed over when he heard Isabella had shown signs of life. He caught Emily and helped her up. "Emily, you okay?"
Hearing his voice, Emily snapped back to reality.
Daniel added, "Emily, you look so pale. What happened?"
Emily couldn't explain, so she just shook her head. Seeing this, Daniel went to check on Isabella.
Daniel said, "This is a good sign."
Hearing that, Emily looked up, her eyes lighting up with hope.
Daniel continued, "I'm serious, Emily. Even though your mom doesn't show major signs of life, any movement is better than none. Trust me, she'll pull through. We just need to be patient." Emily felt a bit calmer. Yeah, as long as they were patient, there was hope for Isabella to wake up.
Meanwhile, over at Smith Corporation, Sophia was waiting patiently too.
To see Michael, she dressed herself in a gentle and humble way, wearing a warm yellow dress and shiny silver flats, giving off a maternal vibe.
This was Sophia's last shot, pretending to be pregnant. She hadn't planned on using this trick, but if she messed up, she and Michael would be done for.
Plus, faking a pregnancy wasn't easy; there were a lot of details to cover. Unless she had no other choice, Sophia didn't want to go through with it.
But seeing the public opinion die down, Michael and Emily still together, and Veda back at the Smith Mansion, making up with Emily and becoming best buddies, Sophia was burning with jealousy.
She felt that if she didn't act, the Smith family and Michael would be Emily's. If Emily took over Brown Corporation too, Sophia would be a complete joke.
So today, Sophia came fully prepared, not just with a strong presence but also with a fake pregnancy report and bribed doctors, ready to trap Michael. Andrew said, "Ms. Brown, we're closing for the day. Please leave."
Sophia didn't know how many glasses of water she had drunk. She hadn't seen Michael, but she had heard Andrew tell her to leave several times. She raised her eyes and stared sharply at Andrew.
Andrew wasn't scared of her, but since Sophia claimed to be carrying the Smith family's child, he couldn't call security to remove her, nor could he be too harsh. He had to think carefully about how to handle this. Sophia asked, "Are you trying to make me leave?"
Andrew replied, "That's not my intention, Ms. Brown. It's just that we're closing, and the whole company is shutting down."
Sophia shot back, "Andrew, don't lie to me. Do you think I haven't worked at Smith Corporation before? Even if it's closing time, a company like Smith Corporation wouldn't skimp on electricity. What a joke!" Andrew said, "Ms. Brown, I don't know if Smith Corporation is short on electricity, but I work here, so I have to consider its interests. Please understand and don't make things difficult for me." Sophia was speechless, "You..."
Andrew had been with Michael for many years and had some experience.
In this standoff, Sophia not only had no comeback but also ended up looking like the bad guy.
She took a deep breath, stood up angrily, and warned Andrew, "Don't use Smith Corporation as an excuse. Do I need to remind you again whose child is in my belly?"
