The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 36 Almost Miscarried
Sophia just shrugged off the threat with a grin. "Emily, chill out. I'm just talking. No need to freak out. When I get a chance, I'll take my mom to see Isabella. You remember Isabella saw me when we were little, right?"
Emily started shaking at the mention of Isabella. The memory of Isabella's suicide flashed in her mind. By the time she got home from school, Isabella had already jumped. That moment was burned into her memory-the crowd, the blaring sirens, the cold, sinking feeling. No one could understand that. She glared at Sophia, trembling like an angry cub. It was Sophia and Evelyn who had pushed gentle Isabella to end her life.
Emily raised her hand to slap Sophia, but Sophia seemed ready for it. She stepped forward, almost inviting the slap. But before Emily's hand could connect, someone shoved her hard from behind.
Emily lost her balance and slammed into the handrail. Pain shot through her, and she bent over, looking up to see Michael standing there.
Abigail and Daniel were stunned by the sudden chaos. They rushed to help Emily, who was pale and sweating, unable to stand straight from the pain.
Michael, fuming, yelled, "Emily, what the hell are you doing? Hugging Daniel in the hospital? Do you think I'm dead or something?"
Emily was in too much pain to respond. Abigail, suddenly furious, snapped at Michael, "Why did you push her? Don't you know she's already..." Emily quickly grabbed Abigail, signaling her to stop. Daniel shot a cold glare at Michael, baffled by his sudden appearance and aggression.
Sophia watched with a smug look. She had sent Michael a photo of Emily and Daniel hugging, knowing he'd rush over. She wanted to stir up trouble and make Michael hate Emily even more. When Emily tried to hit her, Sophia had stepped forward on purpose, having already spotted Michael. She knew he wouldn't let Emily hit her. And just as she expected, Michael pushed Emily away. Seeing Emily on the ground, Sophia feigned concern, "Emily, are you okay?"
Michael, still angry, snapped, "Stop pretending, Emily."
But Daniel, knowing she was pregnant, quickly checked on her. She was trembling and drenched in sweat.
He scooped her up and barked, "Move!" as he carried her to the emergency room. Abigail shot a glare at Michael and Sophia before following Daniel.
Michael watched Daniel carry Emily away, feeling a pang of guilt.
"Michael, do you think Emily will be alright?" Sophia pretended to care.
Michael, still fuming, muttered, "What could possibly happen to her?" and stormed out of the hospital.
In the emergency room, Abigail paced anxiously. She grabbed Daniel's arm, "Is Emily going to be okay? It's my fault for coming to the hospital today. If we had come tomorrow, this wouldn't have happened." Daniel tried to reassure her, "Don't worry. She'll be fine. We just need to be patient." But he was scared too. Emily's face had looked awful, and he had seen some bleeding. He wasn't sure if the baby would make it. He knew Emily had been dealing with severe morning sickness and barely eating. Now, after getting shoved, he was worried about any complications.
Abigail and Daniel waited anxiously outside for about an hour until the obstetrician finally emerged from the emergency room.
Abigail jumped up, "How's my friend? Is she going to be okay?"
The obstetrician, recognizing Daniel, asked, "Daniel, is she your wife?"
Daniel ignored the question, "How is she?"
The obstetrician smiled, "Don't worry, the baby is safe for now, but her progesterone levels are a bit low. She should've been on medication to prevent miscarriages. She needs to be more careful from now on." The doctor patted Daniel's shoulder, gave some advice, and left. Emily was then wheeled out.
Abigail and Daniel rushed to her side. "Emily, how are you feeling? Are you still in pain? This is all my fault. I shouldn't have agreed to come to the hospital today. I forgot you were pregnant. That Sophia, I'll get back at her next time." Abigail's eyes were red with worry.
Emily lay on the bed, pale, but managed a smile. "It's okay, Abigail. The baby is fine. It's not your fault." She felt cold all over.
Michael's push had shattered the little warmth they had built up over time.
She had thought Michael cared a bit about her, but now she realized she had been fooling herself.
If anything had happened to the baby today, she would have torn Sophia and Michael to pieces.
Emily was taken back to her room, still looking unwell. Daniel told her to rest and not think about anything. The most important thing now was to rest well.
Emily nodded. She was exhausted and didn't want to think about anything.
When Michael got back to his office, he felt like something was draining out of him. Panic set in as he thought about Emily, whom he had pushed. She had seemed really uncomfortable. 'Is she really in serious condition?'
Michael felt his whole body trembling. 'Is this how Emily feels?' He fought off a wave of panic and chest tightness, picked up the phone, and tried to call Emily, but she didn't answer.
Michael started to get scared. 'What happened to Emily?' He got up to go to the hospital, but suddenly the feeling of loss and panic disappeared.
He fell back into his chair, his eyes dark, his clenched fists slowly relaxing. 'Emily, you better be fine, or I don't know what terrible things I might do.' Michael thought about his symptoms again. 'Why do I feel nauseous whenever Emily does?' He couldn't figure it out.
Frustrated, he called Brian Scott, his childhood friend who was currently abroad on a project.
As soon as the call connected, Michael asked, "What should I do if someone keeps feeling nauseous?"
Brian chuckled on the other end. "What, is your wife pregnant? Or is it your mistress?"
"Cut the crap and just tell me."
Brian laughed, "That's easy. Just eat something sour." After hanging up, Michael instructed Andrew to buy all kinds of sour foods and bring them to the office.
Michael didn't think much of it afterward. However, for some reason, Mason found out about what had happened at the hospital with Emily, and he kept calling Michael, urging him to come back.
Mason's driver had gone to the hospital to pick up a medical report and saw Michael and Emily there. He also saw Michael push Emily.
