Chapter 37 Mason's Fury

When Michael got to the old house, he found Mason chilling in the living room, waiting for him. He knew Mason had pulled another fast one on him. He thought about turning around and leaving, but Zachary Baker blocked his way. "Mr. Michael Smith, you better go in, or Mr. Mason Smith will make you regret it later."

Michael sighed and gave in. "Grandpa," he called out.

Mason shot him a fierce look. "What's this I hear about you and Emily? Did you really hit her at the hospital today? How dare you lay a hand on Emily? Is this what the Smith Family taught you? Kneel down." Mason was so mad he almost whacked him with his cane. Michael frowned but knelt down anyway.

"Grandpa, who told you I hit Emily? Don't believe everything you hear. She's fine," Michael said.

Mason's face turned red with anger. "How dare you to deny it! I heard she's in the hospital. Don't you know how hard you pushed her? Now she's talking about divorce, and the company's in trouble. Tell me the truth, is Sophia behind this? Is she the one telling you to divorce Emily?"

Michael was about to argue when Mason cut him off, "I knew Sophia was trouble. How many times have I told you to stay away from her? You didn't listen, and now the company's got a scandal. What do you think people at the company will say? Complaints have reached me. You're the head of the Smith Family and the heir to Smith Corporation. How do you think people will see you, throwing everything away for a woman?" Mason scolded Michael harshly, and Michael could only kneel and listen.

Inside, Michael felt a mix of respect and frustration towards Mason, but he couldn't help but snap back, "Grandpa, I told you before. I want a divorce, not because of Sophia, but because there's no love between Emily and me. You're using Emily's hospitalization to make things hard for me. Isn't it because you're biased towards Emily? If I had married Sophia, would you still be like this?"

Hearing this, Mason got so mad he wanted to hit him, but Zachary stopped him, saying, "Mr. Mason Smith, calm down. Mr. Michael Smith is just acting on impulse, and Mrs. Smith is in the hospital and needs care."

Mason slammed his cane on the ground. "You go to the hospital and take care of Emily. You're not allowed to go to the company or come home until she's better."

Michael felt Mason was really biased. He could only raise his head and say, "Grandpa, there are so many things at the company. How can I stay at the hospital all day? Besides, someone is already taking care of her. You don't need to worry." Michael felt angry and jealous thinking about Daniel carrying Emily away.

Mason frowned. "Listen to yourself. How could you say that as a husband? Emily is your wife. If you don't take care of her, who will?"

Mason was so angry he wished he hadn't had Michael as a grandson. He didn't understand how Michael had become like this. 'Is it all Sophia's influence?' He took a deep breath.

"Michael, don't forget the Smith Family's rules. We don't do divorce, only widowhood. Let me make this clear: if you even think about divorcing Emily, I'll replace you as the head of the Smith Family." Mason finished and stood up, with Zachary immediately stepping in to support him. Then Mason turned to Michael, "Michael, get your act together."

Mason felt drained, both physically and mentally. He felt bad for Emily. She was a good girl, but Michael was treating her poorly. He sighed and said, "Zachary, it looks like the family won't have peace anytime soon."

Zachary smiled and tried to comfort Mason, "Mr. Smith, if you interfere too much, it might backfire. Let them handle it themselves. You might be surprised by the outcome." He didn't think Michael was completely indifferent to Emily.

Mason said, "I hope you're right." He couldn't manage the young people's love lives, but he couldn't ignore the Smith Family's rules. Thinking of this, he sighed again and slowly went back to his room.

Michael knelt there for a while until Andrew called him, saying that the people from Moonlit Treasures still hadn't contacted Ella, and the PR department was at a loss. They needed his input.

Hearing it was about the company, Michael immediately got up and headed back to the office. He took out his frustration on the PR department.

"Can't you guys figure this out? Do I have to solve everything for you?"

Seeing Michael's anger, the PR team worked even harder to handle the situation. Eventually, they managed to suppress the plagiarism issue.

However, Sophia from Moonlit Treasures' design department hadn't been showing up to work lately, but she hadn't officially resigned either.

Emily spent the afternoon resting in the hospital, and then the doctor suggested she go home since the hospital environment wasn't ideal for her pregnancy. So, she followed the doctor's advice and prepared to leave. When Michael got back from the company that evening, he saw Daniel and Emily standing at the entrance of the hospital. He watched as Daniel took off his coat and put it on Emily.

Fuming, Michael slammed the car door and hurtled over. He remembered the photo Sophia had sent him of Emily and Daniel hugging. Seeing that photo had made him furious, and now he couldn't believe they were hugging so openly at the hospital.

When Daniel brought Emily back to Emerald Lake Manor, he was still a bit worried. After all, she couldn't hide the pregnancy forever.

Daniel helped Emily out of the car and put his coat on her. "Emily, take care. I'll have someone bring you the medicine tomorrow."

Emily nodded and smiled. "Thanks, Daniel. Please keep this a secret. And thanks for helping my mom, too."

When Emily had been forced to drop out of her design studies, she had switched to medical school out of spite. But by then, it was almost her junior year, so she didn't learn much about medicine.

After changing her major, she met Daniel. Later, Daniel went abroad, and she, still uninterested in medicine, focused on jewelry design and barely graduated.

Emily and Daniel were talking when the headlights of a car flashed. They looked over and saw Michael slamming the car door and striding towards them. His movements were so noticeable that both Emily and Daniel were stunned.
