The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains
Chapter 38 Severe Pregnancy Reactions

Michael spotted the two of them together and tried to keep his cool. He walked up to Emily, his eyes darting between her and the other guy. When he noticed the coat on Emily, he let out a sarcastic laugh. "Out of the hospital? It's late, and another guy brought you back. Guess you were faking it all day."

Michael's words stung, and Emily bit back her anger. "Michael..." she started, but Daniel stepped in front of her protectively.

Daniel shot back, "Mr. Smith, is your mind really that twisted? Do you even know Emily almost died because of your shove? Do you know she..." He stopped himself, remembering Emily didn't want her pregnancy revealed. "Mr. Smith, if you can't take care of Emily, maybe someone else should."

Michael's fists clenched. He barely managed to fight down the urge to punch Daniel. "She's my wife; she doesn't need your concern. Maybe you should focus on your patients."

Emily, sensing the rising tension, stepped out from behind Daniel and spoke calmly, "Daniel, thanks for today. You should head back now." But Daniel, seeing Michael's furious face, still looked worried.

"Are you sure you'll be okay alone?" Daniel asked.

Emily replied, "Don't worry, Mr. Smith cares too much about his reputation to hit his wife." Michael's face darkened even more.

Daniel knew this was between them, and even if he wanted to help, he had no right. He swallowed his worry. "Emily, I'll go. Call me if you need anything."

Michael, seeing the bond between them, snapped, "I won't hit my wife, but others might not be so lucky."

Daniel glanced at Michael and said, "Michael, you're still as selfish and domineering as ever. One day, you'll lose what's most important to you."

Michael ignored him, watching Daniel walk away with a frown. He felt like Emily was hiding something. Whether it was Daniel or Abigail, they always seemed to speak in riddles. He wondered, 'What are they hiding?' He looked at Emily and asked bluntly, "Are you hiding something from me?"

Emily panicked for a moment. "Michael, stop making a big deal out of nothing." She turned to walk inside but then paused. "Did you know Daniel before?"

Michael replied coldly, "None of your business. And from now on, no other men are allowed here." Emily, not wanting to argue, snorted and went inside.

Michael followed her and shut the door. Emily ignored him and headed straight upstairs.

Maybe it was the medication and the shot she had taken, but her body couldn't handle it, and a wave of pregnancy symptoms hit her. She felt nauseous but couldn't throw up. She wanted to sleep but couldn't. She lay in bed, tossing and turning, and then noticed Michael barging in.

Emily sat up, ready to ask why he didn't knock, but Michael beat her to it. "Feeling nauseous and uncomfortable again?"

Emily was surprised he knew how she felt, but she tried to stay calm. "Yeah, that push you gave me at the hospital was pretty rough. I got a shot and took some meds, which might be messing with my body. My stomach's just a bit off now." She made up an excuse to brush him off, but Michael wasn't buying it. Still, he couldn't replace a reason to call her out on lying.

Suppressing his own frustration, he turned to leave. He didn't believe her stomach issues hadn't improved, so he went out to call Andrew. "Get someone to check Emily's medical records from today at the hospital." He wanted to know what was really going on with her, but he felt nauseous again.

The next day, Abigail called Emily. Moonlit Treasures had been trying to reach her, but Abigail hadn't mentioned it since Emily wasn't feeling well.

But today, Moonlit Treasures called again, showing a lot of interest. They wanted to invite Ella to be their design director, so Abigail called Emily.

Emily thought for a moment and piped up, "Given the current situation, if I show up, it might backfire. Let's wait a bit longer; I don't have the energy to think about this now. I just want to protect this baby." Overworking might harm her health, and she wasn't in the best shape for work right now. Abigail agreed, "Then you should rest well. I'll turn down Moonlit Treasures."

Abigail then remembered something. "Oh, and besides Moonlit Treasures, Mr. Jackson from Phantom Beauty wants to commission a piece from you. They're gearing up for their spring jewelry collection and are looking for creative designers. Mr. Jackson specifically asked if you'd be interested."

Emily was thrilled. She'd love to work with Phantom Beauty. But thinking about her health, she frowned and asked, "When are they starting the design process?"

Abigail replied, "The exact time isn't set yet; it's just an initial idea. They'll let us know when it's time."

Emily thought for a moment and said readily, "Okay, you can agree to it for now. If I have the time or if my health improves, I can join."

Abigail laughed and teased, "You're really playing favorites. You don't want to sign with your own company but are so interested in Phantom Beauty."

Emily laughed too. "It's different, isn't it? It's Phantom Beauty! It's the dream of so many jewelry designers."

Emily had originally wanted to use Moonlit Treasures to achieve her dream of becoming a jewelry designer. But if she could get recognition from Phantom Beauty, it would be much better for her future.

Thinking about it made Emily happy, but shortly after Abigail's call ended, the phone rang again. Mason was checking on her health and mentioned her injury was because of Michael. Emily was surprised Mason knew about her injury.
