The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains -
Chapter 69 Are You Looking for This?
Emily felt a sting from Sophia's words. Yeah, she had seen Michael in love before. How could she forget? Pushing down the bitterness, Emily said, "I don't need it. Do you think I care about his love? He doesn't love me, and I don't love him either. And by the way, I know it was you who locked me in the cold storage." With that, Emily stepped forward and slapped Sophia hard. The sound echoed in the empty office.
Sophia looked at Emily, shocked, and yelled, "You bitch! How dare you hit me?"
Emily shot back coldly, "A slap is the least you deserve. If Michael hadn't been covering for you, you'd be in jail by now. You and Michael are both disgusting, conspiring to kill me. How long do you think you can keep this up? This slap is just the beginning. Don't mess with me again, Sophia."
Emily was genuinely scared that Sophia would hurt her again, making it impossible to protect her child. She knew her bluff seemed weak, but she had no other choice.
Sophia suddenly smiled and said, "Don't get too cocky, Emily." Then she pulled a box out of her bag and said, "Emily, is this what you're looking for?"
Seeing the box, Emily immediately knew what was inside. Her face changed, and she said, "How did you get it?" Emily clenched her fists and glared at Sophia, her anger boiling over. She reached out to grab it, but Sophia stepped back and opened the box.
The hairpin "Lucky" was inside.
Emily stared at "Lucky" and said, "Sophia, how did you get this?" She was on the verge of breaking down.
Seeing Emily's distress, Sophia felt a twisted satisfaction, finally venting her anger from that night.
Sophia smiled smugly and said, "Isn't it obvious? At the charity auction, didn't you see Michael buy it? Of course, he bought it for me. He even said he'd personally put it on me when we get married." Emily felt a deep pain in her heart, her eyes welling up with tears. "No, no, Michael clearly said..." Emily muttered, breaking down.
Sophia held up "Lucky" and laughed. "He clearly said he'd give it to you, right? Emily, don't be so naive. You're just a temporary plaything he married. No, not even a plaything, more like a decoration. I know you and Michael haven't been together all these years. You're just a decoration he married. Do you still dream of winning his heart? Let me tell you, now that this hairpin is in my hands, I don't know which one you like more, the hairpin or Michael's love. But you won't get either."
Emily glared at Sophia, her rationality shattered, her emotions in ruins. She said, "Sophia, give me 'Lucky.' It was a gift from my mom."
But Sophia had no intention of complying. She immediately put "Lucky" back in her bag and said, "Emily, 'Lucky' is mine now. You can cry all you want." Sophia paused and continued, "But it's not totally hopeless." Emily had no clue what Sophia was planning, but she glared at her with eyes full of resentment and unwillingness.
Sophia pulled an invitation from her bag. "This is an invite to the Heavenly Delight Club for tomorrow night. If you want 'Lucky,' come replace me there." She placed the invitation on Michael's desk and strutted out of his office, her bag swinging arrogantly.
Emily felt like her world was falling apart. Why, why? Why did Michael deceive her? He had promised to give her "Lucky"! Why did he break his promise and give it to Sophia? That hairpin was her mother's, a gift from Isabella. She desperately wanted an explanation from Michael, but he was on a business trip.
Michael had been abroad for about a week. Emily's rationality snapped again. In her rage, she trashed everything in Michael's office-valuable vases, antiques, documents on the desk, the computer-everything.
Michael got the news while inspecting a company overseas. The staff first reported to Andrew that someone had wrecked the CEO's office. Andrew was startled and immediately checked the office surveillance, only to replace that it was Emily. He thought, since it was Emily, it should be fine. However, considering her relationship with Michael, he decided to report it to Michael.
Michael watched the surveillance video on his phone, seeing Emily going berserk in his office. He was furious and immediately called her, but she didn't answer.
He didn't know what had happened, but Andrew suggested rewinding the video a bit. Michael rewound the video and saw that Sophia had been there too and had been slapped by Emily.
Although the video had no sound, it was clear from the footage that Sophia was holding the "Lucky" hairpin he had bought. He thought he had already given it to Emily, but now it was in Sophia's hands.
He immediately looked at Andrew and asked, "How did 'Lucky' end up with Sophia?"
Andrew quickly replied, "Mr. Smith, wasn't that supposed to be sent to Miss Brown?"
Michael rubbed his forehead, feeling troubled. He knew there had been a mistake, and Emily had misunderstood. She had cared so much about not letting him buy things for Sophia. Now, the hairpin she cared about most was in Sophia's hands. It was reasonable that she misunderstood.
Andrew realized that the hairpin was a gift for Emily. Michael glared at him, his face a mix of anger and frustration. Andrew immediately realized how foolish he had been this time.
Andrew quickly said, "Mr. Smith, I can explain this to Mrs. Smith. This was my fault."
Michael coldly replied, "It was indeed your fault. Never mind, book me the earliest flight back."
Seeing Emily's frantic behavior in his office, he suddenly felt a pang of heartache. He needed to go back and comfort her. He didn't know why Emily wanted the "Lucky" hairpin so badly. But since he had promised it to her, he wouldn't let it end up in another woman's hands. Otherwise, what would he become? A liar who deceived women?
