Chapter 72 "Lucky" Destroyed
Sophia waved her hand, and a few of her friends walked over, each giving Emily a look that screamed disdain.
Emily's brows knitted together as she eyed them warily. "What do you want?"
Sophia smirked, "Emily, these people are wary of you because you're Mrs. Smith of the Smith Family, but do you think I care? Don't kid yourself. Do you even know how Michael sees you?"
She turned to her friends and commanded, "Hold her down. Today, she's gonna kneel before me whether she likes it or not. You want 'Lucky,' right? Kneel, and it's yours."
Emily saw their smug faces and felt a wave of panic, but she didn't let it show. She wasn't a pushover anymore.
Taking a step back, Emily glared at them. "Sophia, this is illegal. Remember the cold storage incident? If you touch me today, Michael won't let it slide. No matter what my relationship with Michael is, if you lay a finger on me, you're disrespecting him. Think it through." Her last words were aimed at Sophia's friends.
Inside, Emily felt a pang of despair, replaceing herself ridiculous. She hated Michael's coldness but couldn't leave his protection. It was like two little voices in her head, one calling her a hypocrite, the other urging her to use Michael's status. The inner conflict was driving her nuts.
Sophia sneered, ignoring Emily's warning, but her friends looked uneasy and whispered, "Mrs. Smith of the Smith Family? Sophia, maybe we should be careful."
But Sophia, fueled by hatred, didn't care. "What are you scared of? With my backing, she's getting divorced from Michael; he won't care about her. Hold her down; I want her to kneel." She signaled two girls to grab Emily's shoulders. Emily tried to shake them off but was careful not to harm the baby in her belly. She was forced step by step into the corner behind the door.
Someone cranked up the music in the private room, and the atmosphere turned lively again. Everyone's attention drifted away from them. Though wary of Emily as the Smith Family's hostess, no one stepped in to help. They didn't want to get involved in this mess between the wife and the mistress, so they just watched or stayed indifferent.
Emily edged closer to the door. Even if she couldn't get "Lucky" today, she couldn't let herself get hurt. She counted the seconds, waiting for rescue.
Sophia closed in on Emily, her eyes gleaming with malicious intent. "Emily, today you're gonna taste humiliation again."
Sophia couldn't shake the memory of the night Michael threw up on her, a humiliation she still hadn't come to terms with. She wanted to take it all out on Emily.
The two girls grabbed Emily, trying to force her to the ground. In the struggle, one of them slapped her. Emily was momentarily stunned, and the girls took advantage, pressing her down. Tears welled up in Emily's eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
Sophia suddenly slapped Emily, making her ears ring and causing blood to trickle from the corner of her mouth. The force of the slap was brutal.
"This is for the slap you gave me in the office yesterday," Sophia spat out viciously.
Emily was forced to sit on the ground, but she didn't kneel. Her eyes were cold, like a sharp blade in the night, staring straight at Sophia. "Don't think you can always do as you please. The pain you inflict on me today, I will return tenfold. I will personally destroy everything you've achieved and watch you fall from grace."
Sophia found her threats laughable. She took out "Lucky" and toyed with it. "You want this 'Lucky,' right? Today, I'll show you its fate."
When Sophia took out "Lucky," Emily knew what was coming. "No, don't destroy it." Emily couldn't hold back her tears. She didn't want to see "Lucky" destroyed. "Sophia, if you dare to destroy 'Lucky,' I will kill you." Sophia smiled maniacally. "You like to compete with me, don't you? You want to take Michael from me, right? Now I'll destroy 'Lucky,' so you'll never get it, and you won't get Michael, either."
After savoring the moment, Sophia slowly tore off the tassels and gems from "Lucky," dismantling it piece by piece and throwing it into the box.
Emily silently cried, watching "Lucky" being torn apart and feeling her heart shatter into pieces.
Emily's hatred numbed her pain. "Sophia, go to hell." Emily broke free from her restraints and lunged at Sophia, but she was outnumbered. The other two girls grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground. Emily felt a sharp pain in her belly and regained some sense. She held her belly, thinking of her baby. She couldn't let anything happen to her baby here.
Sophia didn't expect Emily to resist so fiercely and slapped her again in anger. The sound of the slap was drowned out by the loud noise of the door being kicked open. Everyone was startled. Emily recalled her high school days when Sophia did the same thing to her, trapping her in the bathroom and drenching her with cold water. Her despair then was no different from now. She thought she had finally become stronger over the years, finally had the courage to face Sophia, but in the end, it was all a dream. Perhaps she would never be able to defeat Sophia.
