Noah pov

Things for Noah have been constant. He got up, took care of his patients, went to bed, and repeat. Noah felt like he had been loosing his mind, that is until there was another bus load of new recruits from Doctors Without Borders. On the bus was a new anesthesiologist. His name was Gideon Gold, and he was Noah’s savior. He was a werewolf.

The second Gold got off the bus Noah recognized another werewolf presence. Noah’s first thought it was a patient. However, after a quick walk through the ward Noah came up empty.

The admin in charge quickly found Noah and introduced them to each other, as they would be working closely with each other. They went to lunch and had a long chat. They had bonded immediately. Gold’s mate had rejected him, but he didn’t go into detail. Noah didn’t ask, when Gold asked Noah about his mate. Noah simply replied that it was complicated. Gold slapped him on the back and said, tell me about it.

Noah helped his new friend get settled. They were currently at a slow point, so Noah suggested they look for a place to shift.

“How long has it been since you shifted?” Gideon asked.

“A few weeks, you?” Noah asked him.

“About a week. It was a nightmare to get here.” Noah laughed,

“I remember that, it took me three days to get here.”

The duo managed to replace a place to shift. Noah wanted to go to the park he went to before. However, he heard that it got bombed to smithereens. So they did the only thing wolf’s could do, they took off walking looking for something suitable. After about thirty minutes of walking they came across an overgrown field.

Noah knew it was best they could hope for. Noah stripped out of his scrubs and shifted into his brown wolf. Gideon did the same, his wolf was smaller and a lighter brown. Noah was from beta b***d, and could have been his packs beta. But Noah wasn’t interested in killing. He wanted to save life’s, not take them. No matter who they were; alpha, omega, rogues, or human.

Noah and Gold’s wolf’s ran together for over two hours. Goddess he missed the presence of another wolf. It was hard in med school too, but his family often visited him. He never went this long without another wolf present. Noah forgot the part of his uncles stories where he went with his mate. He assumed that is what made it so romantic when he was younger.

On the walk back Gideon asked him how often he called his mate.

“Never.”

“Never? They don’t let you?”

“No, only emergencies. We can email, but..” Noah drifted off.

“But what?”

“It’s hard, my wolf whines for his mate for hours every time I email her.”

“Dude, look at the situation you’re in. She could be like my mate and realize shes better off with some one else. It’s all hard, it’s what we signed up for. Sack up and email your mate.”

“He’s right,” his wolf whimpered in his head.

“Of course he’s right,” Noah told his wolf.

“Do you have a picture of her?” Gideon asked. Noah pulled out his phone. Which he didn’t know why he still carried with him, habit he guessed. Gideon looked at his mate,

“Wow she is gorgeous. If you don’t want to email her. I will!” Noah pulled his phone away from his new friend,

“I will email her.” Noah muttered and planned to do just that when he got back.

Jackson POV

He was on a five hour flight to Philly. It was only supposed to be four but it was delayed. He was a ball of anxiety the whole time. Jackson was worried for Penelope, the girl he looked after like his own. He knew she would be in her classes. Jackson texted her the when he was getting on the plane.

Jackson spent the whole plane ride worried and lost in old memories. Liliana had just unearthed aconite in one of the pack members rooms. Jackson honestly didn’t know how the i***t didn’t kill himself with how much he had, and how he stored it. Juan was just above an omega just a drop on his skin could be fatal.

Jackson had been maybe twenty- five at the time, Brad had been a baby. He was doing his border patrol when a hunter got the drop on him. Shot him with aconite, and the next thing he knew he was in the pack hospital and his mate was dead. Aconite poisoning. The best any doctor can figure is her wolf came to him and sucked enough poison out of him to let him live.

Honestly it doesn’t make any sense. The alpha came and suggested we tell everyone it was rogues. So we don’t have any panic on our hands. Jackson thought it was a good idea, and the pack had never seen aconite again. That was until now, until it showed up in Liliana’s system when she was kidnapped by the rogue king.

Hunters were dangerous, especially in their ideology. They believed with every fiber of their being supernaturals were a plague and should be wiped out.

The plane ride flew by as Jackson was lost in his thoughts. The second the plane touched down he texted Penelope.

Me: the plane just touched down are you okay?

It took a minute for her to reply.

P: ya I’m in class and I haven’t seen him.

Me: ok I’m on my way and stay vigilant.

P: I will, love you.

Jackson got out of the airport and it took forever! He finally got in a taxi, and was on the way to the university. He texted her again letting her know he was on his way. However, he didn’t hear back from her. That was weird, it was four, and she didn’t have class past three. Penelope should be able to text him back. Jackson was worried, he quickly paid the taxi and ran to Penelope’s dorm room.

The dread continue to fill him the closer he got to her room. Jackson knew why, the second he turned the corner he saw two figures pressed close together. From far away one could mistake them for a couple making out. But Jackson knew better, he knew this is the man that had been harassing her.

His wolf was furious! Jackson considered yelling, but he didn’t want the bastard getting away. His wolf gave him some extra speed and he reached his daughter in no time. He grabbed the man by the throat. He let go of Penelope, and Jackson saw the relief in Penelope’s eyes.

“Dad!” She cried out. Jackson threw the man across the hall into the wall. He let a huge indent and he fell to the floor groaning. Jackson picked him up by the throat and hauled him up.

“You dare to attack my daughter?! My daughter! Your scum!” Penelope came up to him,

“Dad let him go.”

“Why?”

“Because he’s not worth it,” Penelope said and Jackson realized she was right. He tossed the man on the floor.

“You are lucky my daughter has more integrity than you do.” The man coughed up a fit, and hauled a*s out of there.

“Penelope are you-“ Jackson turned to Penelope but he didn’t get any further because she collapsed into his arms and started crying.

“Hush now, it’s ok. I’m here.” Jackson said trying to soothe her. This was a side of Penelope he wasn’t used to seeing. She always presented herself as strong. The only other time she broke down was when rogues attacked her and her sister Liliana. Penelope had a mental breakdown, Jackson hoped this wouldn’t be like that time. That had been three years ago, she had grown so much since then. So had Lili, the only one of his kids who hadn’t was Brad. Jackson was worried about Brad being on the council, but he needed to focus on Penelope.

Jackson quickly picked her up and tried opening the doors. He found the door to be locked. Jackson started looking for the keys, and Penelope handed him her keys. There were only two keys on the ring so he managed to replace the right key quickly. Jackson walked inside and sat her on the small bed. He locked the door and came back to Penelope. Jackson took her shoes off, and tucked her in.

“I’m going to be right here okay?”

“No I need to transcribe my lectures.”

“I can do that,” Jackson offered. Penelope gave him a dubious look.

“You just write down what you hear right? It can’t be that hard.”

“Okay,” Penelope said and got everything set up. Jackson lied about it being hard. He had to google how to spell every other word. But when he looked up, Penelope had fallen asleep. Jackson smiled and went back to work.
