The Fall Ball -
Chapter 18
(Jake)
“You did that on purpose,” Elizabeth says to me when I get in the car. I look at her and smile.
“Yes, I sure did. Gives them a chance to get to know each other better.” She looks at me, shakes her head at me and smiles.
“You better hope she doesn’t hurt him, before we get there,” she tells me.
“Oh I’m sure they will be fine. And if not, Craig can handle himself. I bet he will get great enjoyment out of this. And Rose will be okay.” I say.
Liz (Elizabeth) picks up her book and starts reading. I pick up the file on my lap. It’s some of the b***d results that the doctor took from Rose yesterday. This information is surprising, and I am hopeful that the King can help me figure out some of the answers.
(Rose)
I growl and get into the car that was waiting for Craig and I. I hear Craig laugh as he gets into the car.
“You know, for someone without a wolf you do a lot of growling,” he says to me.
I reply, “Yeah, well, being raised in a wolf pack, I may have picked up on some things.”
He laughs at me.
He is already on my nerves and we haven’t even left town yet. He is so frustrating. I have seen him around the pack before, he is close to my age. Has no mate, and likes to joke around. Dad says the only thing he is serious about is work.
“So Craig, why did you agree to be my bodyguard? I am sure there were other things you could have been assigned to, that would have been more fun than just following me around all the time.” I watch him as I question him.
“You’re right, there were other things, but none would have been this fun. I think this will be one of the most challenging things that I could have done. I get to protect the young innocent Rose, from any danger that may come her way. It’s exciting,” he says with a smile.
At this I’m upset.
“I am not much younger than you, and sure as hell am not innocent. I do not need you to protect me from anything. You may however, need to protect yourself from me.” I tell him, my anger flowing.
He looks at me with shock on his face. “So, is the eye changing color with emotions, just another thing you picked up from living in the wolf pack?” He asks me.
“What do you mean? My eyes don’t change colors.” I say.
“Oh yes they do! Just now, when you were riled up, they changed. Our eyes usually turn black when we feel emotion and show the eyes of our wolf. “Yours turned into an amazing green color.” He says to me looking me in the eye.
“They did what? I have never had my eyes change colors before.” Then I think about it…
After the first dream with the goddess, I noticed that my eyes were greener. And they even flashed that electric green and then returned back to normal.
“Umm… you must have been seeing things. My eyes have a hint of green in them and sometimes the light can make them seem more green than normal.” I tell him.
“Yeah, sure that’s what happened,” he tells me while rolling his eyes.
“Do you know when we will be stopping to eat? I am starving and need space from you and your delusions.” I ask.
“No, I don’t know for sure. Let me link with the Alpha and ask him. Although, I think that if you tried to dig deep within yourself you could link him yourself.” He says and then his eyes fog over.
He thinks I can mind link; he must be crazy! I have no wolf so that isn’t possible. Even with a non-active wolf it isn’t possible. Is it? Now I have even more questions. It seems the deeper I dig into who I am the more questions I get than answers.
“Alpha said we are going to be stopping in about 15 minutes,” Craig says to me.
“Okay thank you,” I answer him.
“Have you ever thought of why your wolf is inactive?” he asks me.
“No, because I don’t have a wolf,” I answer him. And I look out the window.
“Well you know that is a lie. Alpha can smell your wolf and so can the doctor. And I can sense your wolf. I think you need to be accepting of the fact that you do have one. Maybe she will come forward.” He tells me and looks out the other window.
He can sense my wolf? What the hell does that mean? I know some wolves have abilities that can help them feel for another’s wolf. It comes in handy if a person is hurt, they can sense if their wolf is still present or not. But to have that ability you have to be a blessed wolf. The goddess herself would give that gift to you.
I look at Craig. He is still gazing out the window. When he feels my eyes on him he turns to look at me.
“You’re staring at me. Like what you see? Or do you have a question?” he asks me with a smile.
I roll my eyes at him. He just smirks at me.
“Actually I have two questions for you. First, does your wolf make a strange growling and purring sound? ” I ask him.
He laughs at me. “Yes he does. Isaiah will do that when he is happy or content. We call it his calling. It can also help calm your mate down as it relaxes them,” he answers me.
“Well, that’s cool. Never heard it done before or even heard of it. But I had a dream last night and the wolf was making the strange sound.” I reply.
“Was this the same wolf that you saw in your first dream with the goddess?” He asks.
“Yeah, it was.” I answer.
“Now, the second question. You said you could sense my wolf. That is a gift given to wolves by the goddess herself. Have you met the goddess?” I watch him stiffen.
“I was hoping you wouldn’t pick up on that. But yes, I have met the goddess. I met her in a dream a few years ago, and she blessed me. She told me that my gift would come in handy one day. She said a very special being was going to come and they will need my help to replace their wolf.” He says to me.
I stare at him in shock. The car comes to a stop and I see that we are at a diner and the Alpha is walking up to our car.
“How was the drive?” he asks with a knowing smile.
