The Mysterious Luna -
Chapter 36
Alpha Colton POV
It was now nightfall. Alpha Peter, had faxed over a map of the Cold Stone Pack territory. It showered me where the dungeon was located, as well as were the guards are stationed.
I went over the map thoroughly with my men to make sure we were prepared. We managed to get a scent masking potion from Gloria, that would mask our presence to both border patrol, as well as the guards.
I was bringing a dart gun with me, the darts were laced with wolfbane. They wouldn’t kill anyone only knock them out temporarily, long enough for us to hopefully get in and out without being caught.
I was bringing a team of 20 warriors with me. The majority of them would remain on the outskirts, while Josh and I, as well as two more warriors, snuck onto the territory and into the dungeon.
Kyle, my Gamma would be staying on our territory to take care of pack business, while I’m gone.
“Let’s go tell the girls, we’re heading out.” I said to Josh and he nodded.
We made our way to Jess’s room and knocked.
“Come in” I heard and opened the door.
Jess and Sam where both sitting on the bed. They had worried looks on their faces.
“We just wanted to come and let you guys know, that we’re heading out. Hopefully we won’t be gone to long. The Cold Stone Pack, is approximately 2 hours away and I would say the rescue, if all goes smoothly, should take no more then an hour.” I said, in a serious tone.
“Be safe.” Jess said, as she stood from the bed and walked towards me. I wasn’t sure what she was doing, until she wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me. I was surprised at first, but quickly returned the hug by wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her tightly against me.
She pulled away and I saw tears in her eyes. I knew she was worried, for both Beth and I.
“Try not to stress, we’ll be ok.” I said, while brushing the tears from her cheek.
I watched as Sam also hugged Josh, I could see the adoration in Josh’s eyes, when he looked at his mate.
“Try and get some rest, by the time you wake up, we’ll be back.” Josh said, while brushing a strand of Sam’s hair behind her ear.
“As if we’re going to get any sleep. This mission sounds dangerous.” Sam said with a concerned frown, while glancing between Josh and I.
“Alpha Ryan and his men, won’t even know we were there. We need to head out now, though.” I replied.
Josh and I left Jess’s room and head out of the pack house. The warriors were already waiting outside for us.
“You two, take the SUV and stay far enough away from the border so you’re not seen. Wait for my orders from there.” I instructed, while pointing to two of my warriors. They both nodded, before getting into the SUV and taking off down the road.
“Let’s shift into our wolves and move out.” I announced to the rest of the warriors.
I stripped out of my clothes and placed them in a back pack, before I shifted into my wolf. I picked up the back pack and took off running. Josh and the warriors followed.
We ran in wolf form, until we were only around ten minutes away from the border. We shifted back to our human form and got dressed. We would make the rest of the journey on foot.
Once I was dressed, I put on a black ski mask, so the guards couldn’t recognize me if they happen to see us. I then strapped the dart gun to my leg and took the scent masking potion. Josh and the two warriors coming with me, did the same.
“You guys stay here, we should be close enough to mind-link each other. Don’t move unless I tell you to.” I commanded the other warriors.
“Yes Alpha.” They replied in unison.
Me, Josh and the two warriors started to carefully walk towards the border. Once we reached the border, we split up. Josh and I went to the East and the two other warriors went West. That way, when we reached the other side of the pack house, we would have eyes on both sides of the dungeon.
We moved slowly through the forest, now that we were on pack territory. After about 15 minutes, the tree line started to thin and I could make out buildings in the distance.
Once we reached the tree line, I signalled josh to stop, so we could access the surroundings.
I could see the pack house in the distance. It was a 4 storey brick building and all the lights appeared to be off inside. I couldn’t see anyone around.
We stuck to the tree line, so that we would blend in with the darkness.
Once we got to the other side, there it was, the dungeon exactly where Alpha Peter said it would be. It was a small shed structure, approximately 10 feet by 10, with a wooden door. Alpha Peter, explained that once you walk in, there would be stairs that take you down to the underground dungeon. There was 1 guard standing out front, leaning against the building. Alpha Peter had said that there would be one outside the building and another inside the dungeon.
‘Are you guys in place?‘ I asked the two other warriors, through the mind-link.
‘Yes Alpha.’ One of them replied.
‘Good, keep your eyes on the building. Josh and I are moving in.’ I ordered.
‘We got it. Good luck.’ The warrior said, before ending the mind-link.
“You ready?” I asked, while looking over at Josh. He simply nodded.
I pulled out my dart gun and aimed it at the guard standing in front of the shed. I didn’t waste anytime and shot it, hitting him in the neck. Seconds later, he fell unconscious to the ground.
Josh and I approached cautiously. When we reached the guard, I removed the keys from his pocket and quickly unlocked the shed door.
We walked inside and just like Alpha Peter had explained. There were stone stairs that led underground.
We slowly descended the stairs, we both had our dart guns out.
When we reached the bottom and turned the corner, there was the second guard sitting behind a desk. I quickly lifted the dart gun, as his eyes met mine and a shocked expression spread across his face. I shot a dart at him and within seconds, his head fell onto the desk and he was also unconscious.
I grabbed the keys that were sitting on the desk and we walked down the hallway. It was dingy and smelt of rotting flesh. I sure hope we aren’t too late.
At the end of the hall, there was another hallway and this one was line on each side with metal cells. We started to walk down the hall, they were all empty except for the very last one.
There was a female curled up in the corner of the cell. She didn’t even lift her head, when we stopped and I unlocked the door. Panic was rising inside me. She would of heard us, why isn’t she moving?
I opened the door and ran to her, relief washed over me when I saw her chest rise and fall. She’s still alive.
“Beth, we’re getting you out of here.” I said, as I gently rolled her over.
She looked up at me, with curious eyes and I froze in shock. Gloria was right, Jess is a spitting image of Beth. They are definitely are related. Beth looked extremely malnourished and dirty, but the resemblance was frightening.
“Who are you?” She asked, in a raspy voice. It sounded like she hadn’t spoken in a long time.
“Alpha Colton, we don’t have much time, we need to get out of here. Can you walk?” I asked, as I helped her up from the ground.
“I don’t know, it’s been a long time.” She said, while struggling to get the words out. Here legs were trembling and I could tell she wouldn’t be able to keep up. I unlocked the chain form her neck, that was laced with silver and something that prevented her from using her magic.
“I’m going to have to carry you. We need to move fast.” I said, as I scooped her up in my arms.
Josh led the way out of the dungeon.
‘We got her. Head back to the meeting point.’ I instructed the two warriors, through the link.
‘Got it.’ One replied, before the link cut out.
We quickly made it to the tree line and carefully moved towards the border.
‘Stop, I smell a wolf.’ I mind-linked Josh, as we both immediately stopped.
I heard a twig snap up ahead, before Beth said something in a different language. I couldn’t make out the words that she said, but all of a sudden, I heard a crash up ahead in the trees.
“Keep going he’s sleeping.” Beth said, in a low voice. I stood frozen in my spot for a moment, but quickly snapped out of it and continued to move. She must of used magic to knock the patrol warrior out.
Sure enough, 10 feet ahead of us there was a patrol member unconscious on the ground.
We made it out of the territory without being detected, I let out a relived sigh. Now we need get Beth home and looked at by a doctor.
I moved quickly through the forest, till we met the SUV 20 minutes away. I loaded Beth into the backseat and sat next to her. Josh got into the passenger seat and one of the warriors was already in the driver seat.
“Let’s go home.” I said and the warrior started driving us down a dirty road.
I looked over at Beth and she looked so weak, she was leaning against the door and her eyes were closed. I don’t know how she managed to hold on this whole time. The woman is one hell of a fighter, I thought to myself.
“Why did you rescue me?” She asked, without opening her eyes.
“I’m friends with Jessica, I did it for her.” I replied truthfully and watched her closely for a reaction. Like I expected, her eyes flew open and she turned to face me. I could see so many emotions in them, concerned, curiosity, happiness and the main one that stood out, relief.
“She’s safe?” Beth asked, while tears of joy ran down her cheeks.
“Yes, she’s on my territory, I won’t let any harm come to her.” I replied. I could see the relief in her eyes.
“Why are you protecting her? He’s going to come for her. You won’t be able to keep her hidden forever.” Beth said and now I could hear the concern in her voice.
“I will go to war for her, if that’s what it takes to keep her safe.” I replied. She looked at me curiously, I knew she was trying to figure out if I was being sincere. She was also probably wondering why I would go through so much trouble, for a single woman.
“She’s your daughter, isn’t she?” I asked with a frown. I already knew the answer, but I need to hear it from her mouth.
“Yes.” She answered, in a low voice as her eyes closed again.
I knew she must be exhausted. As much as I wanted all the answers right away, she needed rest so I stop with the questions and let her sleep the rest of the drive.
Our mission was successful. I can’t wait to see the look on Jess’s face, when we get back home.
