The Werewolf King’s Runaway Queen -
Chapter 123
Alissa Soleil's POV
I took a deep breath and walked over to my car that was parked up front.
I bought it after med school since the old one was really close to breaking down completely and I didn't want that to happen since it wasn't exactly mine. I got in my car and started the engine then I drove away.
I texted Callie that I was on my way just to let her know that I was already coming.
I stopped by a fast food restaurant and bought the kids their favorite food and then I dropped by a pizza parlor and got the adults pizza.
After that, I went straight to Callie's house.
I arrived after some time and I got out of my car and grabbed the food from the back seat.
Then, I walked over to Callie's house and I knocked.
The door opened and instead of Callie, Calum and the kids opened the door.
"Aunt Soleil!" they squealed and hugged my legs.
"Hi, kids!" I greeted them cheerfully.
I smiled and Calum took the food in my hands.
"What are you doing here?" I asked curiously.
"Just visiting" he said with a shrug.
I hugged the kids and we all went inside.
"I brought your favorites" I told the kids.
"Yey!" they cheered as Cal put the paper bags and the pizzas down.
"Where's Callie and Ma?" I asked Cal.
"Soleil?" then Ma suddenly came with Callie.
"Ma" I said and walked to her to hug her.
"I missed you" I muttered.
"I missed you too, my dear daughter" she said and I gave her a kiss on the cheek.
Then, I turned to Callie and hugged her as well.
"Thank you so much for taking care of Ma" I said as we hugged.
"Oh please. Ma took care of us too. Amd like I kept saying, you guys are family" she said and I smiled.
"What did you bring?" Callie asked curiously as she saw what was on the table.
"The kids' favorites and your favorite pizza" I said.
"Ugh! I love you so much. Thank you" she said as we walked to the table with the kids.
Cal and I prepared the kids' food and settled them down.
"No wonder the kids absolutely love you. You know them so well and you always spoil them every chance you get" Callie said as she took a slice of pizza from the box. "I mean like same. I'm totally in love with you too girl. I don't blame my kids" she said and winked at me before taking a bite of her food.
I chuckled.
"I'm fluttered" I said.
Then, Callie looked at Calum.
"Cal, isn't Soleil just so easy to fall in love with? Right? I mean, you would know of all people" she said as she smiled mischievously.
I looked at Cal and he glanced at me and then he slightly blushed.
"Leave me alone and just eat your pizza" he said sounding slightly annoyed.
Then, he glanced at me again and faked a cough.
Callie chuckled.
Ma and I ate some pizza as well as we talked with Callie.
"Calum, can you get us some juice in the fridge please?" Callie asked her brother.
Calum stood up and walked to the kitchen to do just that.
"He got here before at like 8 in the morning" Callie said.
"Really? I thought he'd be at his place resting until our shift" I said.
"He went here to..." then Callie paused and glanced at the direction of the kitchen where Calum was.
"To ask for some advice" she said ans gave me a small smile.
I nodded in understanding.
After about an hour, Ma and I had to leave.
I said goodbye to the kids and gave them a hug and kisses.
Then, I also said goodbye to Callie amd thanked her again.
Then, I turned to look at Calum.
"I guess I'll see you later?" I said.
Calum nodded and gave me a hug as well and a kiss on the cheek.
"See you later" he said.
Callie suddenly coughed and I chuckled then waved them goodbye as I helped Ma get in the car.
We both got inside the car and I waved goodbye before driving off.
Then, I glanced at Ma.
"Ma, where do you want to go?" I asked her.
"Anywhere as long as it's with you, dear" she said and I smiled.
I missed my Ma so much over the weekend.
I drove to our favorite place and I opened the door for Ma when we got there.
We went inside together and we ordered our favorite food.
We talked about how the outreach program went and what she did during the weekend with Callie and her kids.
She seemed to have enjoyed herself so I was happy about that.
I couldn't tell her about seeing Luke yet.
Right now didn't seem like the time.
I just wanted us to enjoy each other's company after I was away for the weekend.
We had a wonderful lunch and I drove Ma to her house instead of the house since she said she promised to visit her friend.
"I'll pick you up later after work so please wait for me, okay? If I need to work for the night, I'll let you know and you can ask your friend if you can stay over. If not, I'll pick you up then drop you off at home. Just don't go home by yourself, okay, Ma?" I said. Ma nodded and I smiled and gave her a kiss before walking her to her friend's door.
I said a simple hello to her friend and had to leave.
I drove straight to the hospital.
After some time, I arrived at the hospital, parked my car amd grabbed my things.
I walked inside and the staff greeted me with a smile and I greeted them back.
I went straight to the locker room so I could change.
I went to my locker, took my scrubs and sneakers then I changed in the changing area.
After that, I grabbed my necessities and closed my locker as I prepared myself for work.
I took a deep breath and then, I walked out of the room.
I'm set for work.
I went straight to the desk to check on my patients' charts first.
"Dr. Ellis, have you seen Dr. Williams yet?" a nurse asked.
"No, not yet. Hasn't he arrived?" I asked as I flipped through the pages of my patients' records.
"He has. More than half an hour ago, I think. He wanted us to let him know when you get here" she said.
I nodded.
"Okay. I'll page or text him to let him know I'm already here. Thank you" I said with a smile as I made my way to the elevator.
I took out my phone for a moment to send Calum a message.
To: Cal
I arrived at the hospital a little while ago. I'm on my way to check on my patients now. Do you need me for anything after?
I sent it to him and put my phone back in my coat as the elevator.
I kept checking and arranging the records when my phone beeped and I took it out again.
From: Cal
It's nothing. Just wanted to know when you'll get here. I'm checking on my patients as well. I'll see you in a bit.
After reading his reply, I put my phone back in my coat and continued arranging the records until I arrived on my patients' floor.
I checked on my patients that were confined and had a simple chat with them to make them feel better.
After that, I returned the records to the desk for later.
I'll need to check on some of them again later before my shift ends.
As I was about to go do another task, my beeper went off and so did the hospital alarm.
Oh ghad.
We rushed to the emergency room and I could already hear the sirens coming.
I saw Cal and he came to me and we rushed to the door together.
After a few moments, multiple casualties came in with different tags.
Our chief assigned us to different patients and I got a patient with a red tag.
I immediately attended to the patients needs along with a nurse and a resident with me to assist me.
I gave immediate treatment to the patient while I had someone run his labs for me.
I waited for the labs while constantly checking on my patient and also attending to other patients in need of ny help.
Once the labs came and I knew what I confirmed what I was dealing with, I immediately had an OR booked.
And then amidst the commotion that was already going on, I saw another group of people come in with injuries.
It was a group of 3.
1 was a man with a busted head, one was being pushed on a stretcher and the other was restrained in a wheelchair.
My brows furrowed when I saw them.
"Dr. Ellis?" the Chief suddenly peaked inside.
"Yes, Chief?" I asked.
"You're surgery is still in 2 hours, right? Can you please check on the patients that just came? We're a bit short handed" he said.
I nodded.
"Sure, Chief. I'll be out in a sec" I said.
"Thanks, Ellis" he said and I gave him a small smile with a nod.
I checked on my patient first and instructed the resident to constantly check on the patient.
Then, the nurse and I came to check on the patients that just came in.
I saw the paramedic talking with another nurse and when the nurse saw me, she pointed to me and the paramedic turned her head to look at me.
"What happened here?" I asked.
"25, Male with a head injury. He was hit by a bat on his head by his ex-girlfriend. He might need a couple of stitches" he said then he glanced at the direction of the closed curtains.
"But I think the real problem is dude's fiancee" he added.
My brows furrowed a little.
"Was she the one who came in the stretcher?" I asked.
The paramedic nodded.
"24, Female experiencing extreme discomfort since we arrived at the scene. We were informed that she felt she was injected with something by the ex-girlfriend while she was sleeping. We kept interrogating the ex-girlfriend but she refused to cooperate and kept acting mental" he said.
"Injected?" I said.
The paramedic nodded.
"The ex-girlfriend broke into the couple's house when the guy was at work. Fortunately, he rushed back home and called 911 when he couldn't contact his fiancee" he said.
I nodded in understanding as I walked to the closed curtain.
"Oh I almost forgot. The bigger problem is..." he said and I opened the curtains to see the patient.
"She's 6 months pregnant" he revealed.
It felt like my heart dropped to the floor.
Suddenly, I felt like I couldn't breathe as I looked at the girl in the stretcher as her pain showed extreme discomfort.
She was on her side as she held her big belly.
I gulped and stepped back.
"Dr. Ellis?" the nurse called my name.
I snapped back into reality and rushed to the girl's side.
My heart was beating so fast inside of my chest.
This all felt so familiar to me.
"Miss, what are you feeling?" I asked as I checked her vitals.
"It hurts so bad" she said.
She wasn't looking very good and so were here vitals.
I had someone run her labs as I tried to figure out what was happening to her.
"We need to know whatever it is that was injected to her" I said as I continued to attend to her needs.
"Doc!" a nurse shouted as she looked somewhere and when I looked, I saw the patient bleeding from her lower region.
Oh ghad.
"Call an OB now!" I said and someone rushed to get an OB.
"What's happening?" the woman cried as she watched me.
I gulped as I checked on her.
Then, she suddenly screamed in pain as she held her abdomen.
"I think you're going through a m-miscarriage!" I stuttered.
"Oh ghad. My baby!" she screamed.
I held her hand and she squeezed on it.
"My baby. Something is happening to my baby" she cried as she was in pain.
"Please. Do something. Anything. I can't lose her. I can't lose my daughter" she sobbed and then screamed in pain again.
An OB came and I assisted as we rushed her to surgery.
We prepped her for surgery and her labs came in.
There was a high dose of misoprostol in her system and that's what's causing the miscarriage.
We started the surgery immediately to try and save both the mother and child.
I felt anxious the whole time.
And in the middle of the surgery, the woman went into cardiac arrest and we went through several other complications.
In the end...
I watched as the lifeless baby was taken out of the mother's womb.
"Time of death..."
Suddenly, I couldn't hear anything and my vision became blurry.
I had to leave the room immediately and I rushed outside.
I almost stumbled on my way out as I felt like the whole hospital was spinning.
I managed to get to the stairs and I broke down there.
I couldn't breathe and I felt like I was going to black out any second.
I held onto the railing as I hyperventilated and just when I was about to pass out, the door to the stairs opened and I looked up to see a familiar figure.
"Soleil"
Then, I saw black.
