The Werewolf King’s Runaway Queen -
Chapter 131
Alissa Soleil's POV
"What have you been doing all this time?" mom asked me as we had coffee together in the living room.
"Uhm well" I said taking a deep breath.
"After I left, I spent days traveling until I finally settled in a city" I started.
"I found a place to stay and a wonderful woman who took me in. In time, I'll let you meet her, mom" I said and my mom nodded.
"Eventually, I went to college. I studied a pre-med course. Then, I went to med school and after graduating, I took my exams and did a 3 year residency then became an official licensed General surgeon in a hospital in the city" I said. "You're a doctor?" my mom asked stunned.
I nodded.
"It's really shocking, isn't it? But I really do love what I do now. I might lack sleep and rest but I actually like it what I'm doing" I said.
"I'm happy and contented with my line of work" I added.
My mom smiled.
"And that's what matters most" she said and I nodded in agreement.
"The guy from back in the hospital" Axel reminded.
"What guy?" mom asked curiously.
"Oh I have this guy friend back in the city. He's a very close friend and he was there for me since my freshman year in college" I said. "Oh" mom reacted.
"He seemed like a great guy" Axel commented.
"He is" I said.
"Oh is that so?" mom said and looked at Axel with a raised brow.
Axel shrugged at her.
Mom sighed.
"Alissa honey" mom said.
"Yes?" I replied.
"When do you plan on meeting your brother?" she asked curiously.
"Today. I was just going to ask if you knew where he was" I said.
"He told me in the morning that he has work to do outside of the territory but he should be back by now training in the training grounds" mom said.
I nodded and glanced at Axel.
"I should get him" I said.
"Do you want us to come with you?" mom asked.
I shook my head.
"Thank you, mom but I think I'd like a moment for just Bryan and I when I get him" I said.
Mom and Axel nodded.
I finished my coffee and looked at the time.
"I should go see him now" I said.
Axel walked away and took something then he came out with his jacket and put it on my shoulder.
"You need it. You smell too human" he said and I nodded and wore his jacket.
"Thank you" I said and gave him a quick hug with a smile then I gave mom a kiss on the cheek.
"I'll be back with Bryan" I said and they both nodded and I left the cabin.
I looked around for a moment then started walking to the direction of the training grounds.
There were a couple of wolves that saw me and gave me a curious look but I ignored it and kept going through the woods to the training grounds. Well, not until one wolf actually stopped me at my tracks.
"You! Stop right there!"
I stopped at the familiar voice.
"Who are you and where are you going?"
I pursed my lips and I slowly turned to look at the person who stopped me.
Then, our eyes met and a few moments later, his eyes widened as he stared back at me.
"Kalil" I muttered.
Kalil stepped back as he stared at me in shock.
Then, he stopped.
"Hi" I greeted softly.
"Alissa..." he muttered.
Then, he ran to me and hugged me.
Kalil lifted me up and spun around and I squealed.
"Oh ghad" he said as he put me down and he cupped my face.
He examined my face as tears streamed down his face.
"Is it really you?" he said and I nodded.
Kalil smiled.
"You're alive..." he said in a quiet tone.
"I am" I said.
Kalil hugged me again.
"Where have you been in 13 years?" he said.
I didn't answer.
"Kalil" I said.
Kalil looked at me.
"I want to catch up, I do" I said.
"But I need to replace Bry first" I told him.
Kalil realized and nodded.
"Of course" he said.
"He just got back with his team. He's training now. I'll escort you there" he said and I smiled and nodded.
I held Kalil's arm as we walked the remaining way to the training hall.
"You smell like human. I was confused earlier" he pointed out.
"Probably because I am human" I said and Kalil looked at me confused.
"It's a long story for another time" I said and he sighed but nodded.
We reached the training hall and went inside.
I looked around and spotted a familiar guy in the corner doing training with a group of wolves.
Kalil pointed at him.
"That's Bryan now?" he whispered to me.
I gulped as I stared at the direction of the guy.
Wow.
"Oh" I reacted.
I don't know what I expected.
It's been 13 years and I've of course Bryan has become an adult.
Of course he has.
I gulped as I walked to Bryan's direction.
Kalil followed behind me and some wolves who were training that I passed by stepped aside and gave me a curious look as I made my way to my brother. He continued to train with his group.
Then one wolf form his circle looked at my direction and stopped.
Suddenly, the others did too.
Bryan's brows furrowed as he looked at them.
Then, he turned his head to look at me.
He looked at me for a moment then his eyes started to widen.
Oh ghad.
"Bryan..." I muttered and his eyes watered as he stared at me.
"Bryan" I said again as my pace quickened.
"Bryan!" I shouted and run to him.
It was as if Bryan snapped back as he opened his arms and welcomed me.
Bryan caught me in his arms in a hug.
"Oh ghad" I said as tears streamed down my face and I hugged him.
His hug tightened on me but he didn't talk.
"You've grown up...little brother" I muttered.
Bryan looked at me and his brows slightly furrowed as he held my face.
He examined my face.
"Am I dreaming?" he asked quietly.
I shook my head and he looked into my eyes.
"Then why do you feel so surreal?" he said as a tear escaped his eye.
I held his face on my face.
"It's me" I said.
"I'm your sister, Bry. I'm here" I said.
Bryan's tears were let out as he caressed my face with his thumb.
"How?" he said.
"It's been 13 years" he said.
"13 years, Ali" he said and I bit my lower lip.
"I'm sorry" I said.
Bry's hand slipped off my face and I felt his legs give in and he fell to his knees as I held him.
He still stared at me.
"Everything about you...had changed" he said as he weakly touched my hair.
Then, he looked at me eyes.
"But you're still so familiar" he added.
I forced a smile.
I held his hand and gently squeezed it then put it on my face.
"It's still me" I said.
Another tear fell from his eye as he placed his forehead on mine.
"This isn't one of my imaginations, right?" he whisper asked.
I shook my head.
"No" I said.
Bry bit his lower lip and hugged me again.
Then, I started to hear him sob and I caressed his back to soothe him.
Suddenly, it felt like we both went back in time and reunited.
The grown up Bryan went back to my little brother from 13 years ago and I went back to my old self.
It felt warm and nostalgic as we held each other.
"13 years..." he muttered.
"I waited 13 years" he said.
I hugged him tighter as I bit my lower lip.
"I'm sorry" I said.
"I wanted to hate you" he said.
"I wanted to get mad at you. I wanted to forget about you because you broke your promise again. Because you left again" he continued.
My heart squeezed inside my chest.
"I was so young and your absence confused me. I went to your tree every day and fell asleep in your room crying because I was just so hurt by your absence" he kept on as my own tears fell from my eyes.
"You hurt me so badly by leaving" he whispered with a sob.
"I'm sorry" I apologized again.
"Then, they said you died" he continued.
"That hurt me even more because to me that meant I'll never ever get to see you again. I wanted to cope with the pain by convincing myself that I hated you for leaving and you dying wasn't something that would faze me but I couldn't make myself feel that way" he said.
"Because you're my sister, Ali. I knew better than anyone that you loved me. Even when you broke your promise and left. I knew you were just struggling and that you leaving didn't mean you loved me any less. You were just suffering so you had to leave and at such a young age I had to make myself understand that "he continued.
"So I kept waiting for you to come back. Even after they assumed you were dead, I continued to wait. Most of us who loved you did" he told me.
"We waited for you to come back because we knew you'd be back somehow. Someday" he said.
"We couldn't accept the possibility of your death" he struggled to say.
I closed my eyes as I held my brother.
"I'm sorry" was all I could say.
We stayed like that for some time and when we let go and looked at each other, I also looked around only to replace out that we were the only ones in the hall now.
Everyone had left and I didn't even notice.
"Where have you been?" Bry asked and I looked at him again.
"I was far away from here. Really far away" I told him.
He held my face again as he examined it.
"Your facial features are the same. Your hair, skin, body and even eyes have changed but I'd still recognize you after 13 years" he said and I smiled.
"I want to say the same about you but you've grown and changed so much in 13 years" I said.
Bryan smiled a little.
"I wanted to be someone who could protect you when you came back so I worked hard to be the wolf that I am now" he said.
I cupped his face.
"You didn't have to do that" I told him.
"I wanted to" he said.
I smiled.
Then, I tiptoed and kissed his forehead.
"Thank you" I said and Bry and I leaned our forehead on each other.
After a few moments, I spoke.
"I need to tell you guys everything that happened to me while I was gone but I'd prefer to tell you, mom and Axel all together" I said.
Bry nodded.
"Let's go home" he said.
I nodded and Bryan and I held hands as we made our way out of the training halls.
Kalil was waiting patiently outside.
"Hi, Kalil" I said.
"I'll talk to you later. I need to go back home first to talk to with Bry and my parents" I said.
"Okay. I'll wait patiently for you to visit" he said and I smiled then gave him a kiss on the cheek before walking away from the training hall.
Bryan and I made our way back to the cabins.
"Just a heads up about Kalil, he's already got a mate" he told me.
"I think I would know that from his mark and his scent" I told him with a chuckle.
"I'm just saying" my brother said with a shrug and I chuckled.
It's not like I'm trying to get with Kalil.
He's always been a really close friend and that was it.
Also, I've already got too much on my plate right now.
"Also, did I mention that you reek of human scent?" he said with a slight frown.
"That 'reek of human scent' is MY human scent" I said and he looked at me with a raised brow.
"What? What does that mean?" he asked confused.
"This is why we all need to have a family talk. I can't explain it to everyone one by one" I told him and he still looked at me confused until we reached the cabins.
Axel and mom were waiting patiently in the living room.
"You guys are back" Axel said as he and mom stood up.
"You guys will need to sit this one down and maybe even prepare some drinks" I said.
"I'll make some" Axel said and stood up to get some drinks.
Bryan and I sat down beside each other.
I thought of everything that I had to say.
Then, Axel came back and they all looked at me and waited for me to speak.
I took a deep breath.
This is going to be a long one. I
