True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1764
She had intended to send him away with that sentence.
It upset Ernest in an instant. Looking at Leah's calm and smiling face, he felt his mood sour and his heart tighten.
He didn't know how to explain whatever that happened in the gym that morning to Leah and Maria. He didn't know if they had truly misunderstood their conversation.
However, after Leah's indirect dismissal, he was certain that Leah had definitely misunderstood.
Leah didn't even want to look at him, causing him to get upset. Ernest stayed silent for a while and didn't get up to leave. However, he didn't say a word. He just stared at Leah's face quietly. Eventually, Leah was forced to return his gaze.
The two of them looked at each other in silence.
There was no need for Leah to tell Ernest to leave directly. They were both smart people, so it was easily understood.
Even so, Leah was still beaming at Ernest.
To be honest, she was trying to prompt Ernest into saying something. Otherwise, they would only be wasting their time looking at each other like that.
Eventually, Ernest finally spoke up. He looked at Leah and said slowly, "It's a misunderstanding."
Leah let out a laugh and replied without a pause, "What are you talking about?"
"You know what I'm talking about," Ernest was firm. His tone was deep, as if he was trying to hold back his emotions.
Leah laughed and looked up at Ernest's handsome face. Her voice was soft but firm as she replied, "I'm sorry. I really don't know what you're talking about. You're just confusing me with weird and vague statements. I have no idea what you mean. You'd better explain yourself."
Didn't Celeste hold a soft spot in Ernest's heart?
Whenever Celeste was brought up, Ernest seemed to not be able to take it.
Leah was a little annoyed by his behavior.
When Ernest heard her say that, he frowned. After a long while, he started to explain slowly, "Leah, you misunderstood my feelings for Celeste."
"Oh, really? How so? Don't you like her? I know you guys had a fling in the past before," Leah kept nodding.
"No. There was never a past between the two of us. I've never even had a proper relationship with Celeste," Ernest denied.
Leah was stunned. After a long pause, she replied, "Oh, is that so? I'm sorry to hear that. I guess you're right. If you guys had been together before, your brother probably wouldn't be with her right now. How tragic for you and Celeste."
There was no hint of sarcasm in her tone, but Ernest could clearly feel a hint of mockery hidden in her words.
"Leah, don't say that," Ernest's breathing quickened. He started to feel more uncomfortable.
"What do you want me to say instead?" Leah shot back with a smile.
Ernest narrowed his eyes and grunted, "Don't use sarcasm on me. I think of Celeste as my sister, alright? I love her as a sibling. She is my brother's girlfriend and will be my sister-in-law in the future." Leah nodded with a smirk, "So what?"
Ernest thought that Leah really had a sharp tongue. With just a few words, she had succeeded in making him feel embarrassed.
He couldn't keep his calm in front of Leah.
"We shouldn't quarrel about things that have to do with Celeste. It's completely unnecessary," Ernest said, trying to get Leah to understand his point of view.
Leah nodded and said, "Ernest, I don't know what you're talking about. We've never even argued about it."
Ernest was stunned by that comment. He frowned and looked at Leah.
Leah was still smiling as she looked up at him.
"Ernest, I really don't want to think about how you feel about Celeste right now. Furthermore, I don't think we were quarrelling at all. To be precise, we were just giving each other the cold shoulder."
Leah was a writer.
As such, she was better at using precise words to describe their situation.
Ernest looked at her quietly and muttered, "Are you still going to give me the cold shoulder?"
Leah stayed silent for a few seconds. Then, she looked up at Ernest and suggested, "To be honest, I don't. I thought about what to do with you before I came back. After putting some thought into it, I think that we may not be suited to be together. Should we just go back to being regular friends?"
If they were friends, Leah would not have to suffer as much.
"You want to break up with me?" Ernest took a deep breath. He felt his heart clench in his chest. Leah's dazzling smile nearly blinded him.
Leah nodded, "Yes, I plan to."
Ernest stared at her for a long while. However, she remained silent.
Ernest took in another deep breath. Eventually, he asked, "Do you really want to break up with me?"
Leah was stunned by that question. She nodded and said calmly, "Yes."
Ernest pursed his lips, "Are you sure?"
Leah did not speak.
Ernest fixed his gaze on her and continued, "If you break up with me, there will be no chance for us to get back together again. You know I'm a man of my word."
"Are you trying to threaten me?" Leah raised an eyebrow at him.
"Well, if you want to break up with me, I won't waste my time trying to get you back," Ernest said as he stared into Leah's eyes.
Leah smiled and turned to look out of the window. She replied, "Well, alright. I've decided to break up with you. I'm going to leave now."
Ernest was stunned. He looked at Leah with his mouth agape.
Leah continued with a smile, "It's been fun knowing you. In the future, I'll try not to get in your way. You have to keep to your promise as well. After we break up, you can't try to make me stay." After she said that, she stood up and prepared to pack her luggage.
Ernest was shocked. He hurriedly said, "You can go tomorrow morning. There aren't any planes left to board this late at night."
Leah laughed, "You don't have to worry about that."
She started to pack her things into her luggage.
She didn't pack any of the things that Ernest had bought for her, only packing the things she had bought herself.
Ernest watched her until she finished packing. After she was finally done, he realized something.
He looked at Leah and quietly clenched his fists.
He restrained the impulse to pull her into his arms.
Leah started to comb her hair. Even though her hair was still wet from her shower a while ago, she didn't bother letting it dry before tying it all up.
Then, she turned towards Ernest with a dazzling smile on her face.
"Ernest, we've known each other for a long time. I hope you'll take good care of yourself in the future. I'm going back to Northern City. Till we meet again," She carried her bag and held her luggage in one hand After that, she flashed Ernest another smile and said, "Sorry, I suppose it's best if we don't meet ever again."
Ernest felt his heart ache.
He couldn't help himself from blinking several times in disbelief.
With that, Leah headed out.
Ernest tried to reach out to stop her but froze in mid air.
Leah did not turn back. She dragged her luggage down the stairs.
Behind her, Ernest stared at her retreating back. It wasn't until Leah's figure had disappeared from his sight that he came back to his senses.
He paced around in the guest room, but couldn't get himself to take a step downstairs.
He pursed his lips and his pride seemed to have left his body at that moment. He was on the brink of collapsing.
Meanwhile, Pedro saw Leah when she was in the middle of heading downstairs. He looked at her in shock and exclaimed, "Miss Winston, where are you going?"
Leah replied curtly, "Mr. Butler, please get someone to drive me to the airport. I'm flying back home."
"But you just arrived! Why are you leaving so soon?" Almost instantaneously, Pedro knew that something had gone wrong. He wondered where Master Ernest was.
He looked up at the second floor but didn't see Ernest anywhere.
Pedro was really anxious. He knew that he would be at fault if he let Leah leave just like that.
However, he was a cunning old man. He hurriedly suggested, "I can't get you any plane tickets this late into the night. How about you stay in another house first before heading back? I'll book a plane ticket for you the next thing in the morning. Don't worry, I'll let you know once I've booked the ticket. Would that be alright?"
Leah shook her head and insisted, "Don't worry about the tickets. Just send me to the airport first. If I can't get tickets back home, I'll just stay in the hotel at the airport while I wait."
"Miss Winston, I think you're being a little too impulsive," Pedro tried to make her stay.
However, Leah only smiled back, "No, Mr. Butler, I think I'm being quite rational."
She knew that if she didn't break up with Ernest, she would have to suffer in her relationship with him.
The two of them hadn't been together for long. The time they spent together was simply too short.
They had only just experienced the beautiful blossom of their relationship for a short period of time. Who knew that they would experience the pain of a heartbreak so soon?
