True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1999
"You don't need to know." Yandrea brushed him off, not wanting to explain the matter. "Alright. I'm hanging up if there's nothing else."
"What are you hiding from me? Tell me what's going on!" Lowell was so anxious that even his breath was uneven. "Don't hang up now! I know there must be a reason for you to say that." "Don't be paranoid." Instead of answering him, Yandrea joked.
"Stop laughing, will you? Did Gary come to you before I did?" Lowell's gut feeling was telling him that Yandrea must know something from the way he was acting.
"He didn't," Yandrea denied immediately.
However, Lowell did not buy it. He was sure that Gary had gone to Yandrea asking for a favor too.
"You know you can't fool me." With that, his voice was grave. "You know me. I won't come asking for a favor this easily. But you sound so weird today, even I could tell."
Yandrea paused, reflecting on his poor performance that gave it away to Lowell.
Therefore, he sighed, "Alright, you caught me. I shouldn't be telling you this, but since you found out, I'll explain it to you."
"So Gary did come to you for something." In the end, Lowell was right, but he was still shocked to hear it. "When did this happen?"
"About 17 hours ago, he asked me to follow Janice and check her whereabouts the past four months," Yandrea said.
"Is that so?" Lowell said, shocked to replace out that Gary was worried about Janice. He didn't expect Gary to be so prepared.
On the other hand, he was embarrassed that he had reacted slower than Gary.
17 hours ago... Gary was still faster.
"Yup." Not trying to hide, Yandrea told him everything, "I can kind of guess what's going on between the three of you."
"The three of us?" Lowell frowned.
"You, Gary, and Janice." Yandrea continued, "I discovered the problem between the three of you two years ago."
Lowell felt a little embarrassed thinking of the time when Yandrea had offered him some advice back then.
"I warned you and Gary both," said Yandrea, "Now he's paying for being arrogant while you are paying for having something you shouldn't. If I have to be honest, neither of you can escape this." Lowell's expression changed. Finally, he closed his eyes in pain. "Help me with this investigation as per Gary's request. When the results are out, give me a copy too."
"Well, since you are this eager to know, I'll show you some kindness by telling you one of the results that I got last night."
"That fast? You got to be kidding me." Although he had always known that Yandrea was a fast worker, Lowell never expected him to be this efficient.
"I found out that Janice made a seven-minute-long call to Celeste."
"They were in contact?" Lowell was shocked. "Why would Janice have Celeste's number?"
"Don't you know the answer?" Yandrea laughed, "Just a while ago, I found out that you called Celeste a few days ago, and the call lasted around ten minutes."
"Me and Celeste? Ten minutes long?" The more he heard from Yandrea, the more surprised Lowell was. "I've been in contact with Celeste before, but we never talked for more than 2 minutes. Could you be mistaken?" "According to my investigation, you had two calls with her. The first one was almost ten minutes, and the other was no longer than three minutes. The interval between these two calls was one day." Yandrea went into the details.
Suddenly, something dawned onto Lowell. He recalled something from the calls.
Before he could say anything, Yandrea spoke again, "Why don't you try to think back? Did you leave your phone somewhere, or did someone use your phone?"
"Must be Janice." Lowell gritted his teeth. "She must have taken my phone from my pocket that day at the hospital."
Unable to hold it in any longer, Yandrea laughed out loud. "How could a big guy like you fail to keep your phone by your side? Hilarious."
Right then, Lowell was depressed. He had been wondering how his phone went missing for half an hour that day.
He found it in Janice's ward, but he did not remember he had taken his phone out of his pocket in front of her.
His phone's disappearance had been a mystery to him up till this day. Even thinking back now, he couldn't quite figure it out.
Lowell thought that his phone might have fallen from his pocket. Only then did he realize that
Janice must have called Celeste.
Soon, a hint of regret filled his heart. Janice must have gotten Celeste's number from his phone, but what did she want from this?
All of this only led to one thing.
Judging from how Janice has gotten Celeste's number and even had a ten-minute call with her, it meant that Celeste knew about everything, including Janice's pregnancy. Lowell felt a chill down his spine thinking about this. His shirt was wet from cold sweat.
He blamed himself for making such a stupid mistake. It was as if nothing could make up for it now.
Clutching his wrist in regret, he did not say a word, even when his wrist was cracking from the strength he was exerting.
"It's all my fault." Finally, he spoke. No other words could describe how depressed and regretful he was.
But of course, Yandrea could tell, so
he comforted him, "Alright, alright. You don't have to blame yourself. Now that you know it's her behind this, you don't need to hold back towards her anymore."
At that moment, Lowell wanted so badly to take Janice's life. It was clear how much he hated her.
"Gary and Celeste might break up because of my stupidity," Lowell said directly to his best friend.
"Listen. It can only mean that their relationship has been unstable. It's inevitable. You might play a part, leading to their breakup, but it's not all on you. You don't have to blame yourself for this. What could happen has happened. Nothing you do can change it."
"I know where you're coming from
but I
care
it's because I was Lowell said and sighed
again. "Still, keep an eye on Janice. Contact me if there's anything."
"Don't worry. I will," Yandrea said.
After hanging up, Lowell's heart sank.
After a slight hesitation, he called Celeste.
Her phone was shut off, just like Gary's.
He sat on his bed, absent-minded for a while. Later, he got up, changed into a new set of clothes, and went downstairs with his phone.
Just as he arrived downstairs, he said to Grace, "I'm going out for a bit."
"Okay. But you haven't had any food. Do you want to have some before you leave?" She was afraid that he was leaving with an empty stomach. "I had breakfast on the plane. I'm good to go,"
Lowell said and hurried out.
His swift departure left her with some doubts, but the first thing that came to her mind was, "Was he rushing out to meet a girl or an old classmate?"
She would be delighted if it was a girl he had taken interest in.
With her heart full of joy, she went upstairs whistling a happy tune.
Now that everyone was back home, she had decided to hold the best reunion party ever.
Lowell drove to the villa on the mountain. The butler was surprised to see him. "What brings you here, Master Lowell?"
"Where's Gary?" Lowell asked.
"He went out," the butler reported truthfully.
