Unclaimed Luna’s Desire -
Chapter 52 Paul's Pet Cat
Aelros' POV:
"Maybe William took Ellie," Paul said, leaning in close. "I heard someone saw him with her."
I was sitting alone in the living room.
The lights were off, and the only sounds were our breaths, barely audible.
The silence was suffocating, like an itch you can't scratch or a pebble in your shoe.
Ellie was usually like a chirpy little bird, always buzzing around me. Now, it was just... dead quiet.
She'd flown away, leaving me in this empty cage.
I had to admit, a piece of me was missing without her.
I asked myself why, but got no answer.
I just nodded at Paul, my eyes fixed on the Moonlight Herb by the trash can.
If things had gone as planned, I would've given her this gift, and she would've squealed with joy, smiled, and jumped into my arms. But now, nothing.
Even though I beat Joseph, I couldn't replace any joy in it.
Everything had gone sideways. I lost Ellie and didn't even get to say goodbye.
"Paul," I called out, tapping my knee in frustration. "William?" "Yeah."
I turned to him, giving him a questioning look. "Paul, have
you lost
your mind too?"
I was pissed at how casually he was taking this, something I'd never felt before.
I was restless, but I hadn't lost my mind; I could still think straight.
William took Ellie.
Paul might believe it, but did he really trust that info?
I've been dealing with William for a while.
As dumb as I thought he was, no one knew him better than me.
If he had Ellie, he'd use her to provoke, threaten, or mock me.
But he didn't.
Even after I captured him and he was seriously hurt, he didn't mention Ellie.
I didn't think he had the patience to keep quiet.
So, I was sure Ellie wasn't with him.
No news about Ellie was the best news for me.
At least I could tell myself she wasn't being used against me; she was safe for now.
My enemies were ruthless and dangerous, a real threat to Ellie.
"By the way," I said, picking up the Moonlight Herb and cleaning it, "There's a traitor among my friends. Who do you think it is?"
The Moonlight Herb glowed faintly in the dark, soft and cold like moonlight.
I gently touched its leaves, waiting for Paul's response.
"Why do you say that?" Paul coughed, covering his mouth, curious.
I smiled. "Because someone betrayed my whereabouts, messed up my plans, and almost got me killed."
"Oh man! Aren't you being a bit paranoid?" Paul scratched his nose, walked closer, patted my shoulder, and said, "There's nothing stronger than friendship bound by interests. Like me, I'd never want to kill you because we both want to take down Joseph."
I raised an eyebrow at Paul. "Yeah, I know."
Paul was right; he hated the current Alpha, which is why he reached out to me to team up against Joseph.
In the noble circle, there were no permanent friends, just permanent interests.
For someone like Paul, a noble-born werewolf, it was even more so. He had no emotions, only interests.
Plus, I had a human mother, and no one wanted to stoop that low.
At first, no one wanted to be near me; they thought I was just a hybrid born of humans.
Only Paul accepted me first, proposed an alliance, and planned to take down Alpha.
Even though I knew Paul was dangerous, a master of disguises and deceit, I had no choice but to ally with him.
I needed his strength to defeat Alpha.
I stared at Paul's relaxed expression for a long time. Even though I had doubts about him, I had to stay silent for the sake of our interests.
But my suspicions about him hadn't gone away.
Because I'd seen Paul show interest in Ellie in front of me, more than once.
I had always been cautious, climbing from being a despised hybrid to a position where no one dared to mess with me.
Now, everyone was a suspect to me, whether it was a hidden traitor or the mysterious person hiding Ellie, except Ellie.
For some reason, I always had a gut feeling to trust Ellie, like my heart and my genes had chosen her.
"Is this Moonlight Herb? Did you go to the cliff to replace this herb for Ellie?" Paul picked up the Moonlight Herb I had placed on the table, examined it carefully, then turned to me jokingly. "If it were me, I would definitely make you my boyfriend; you're just too considerate. But Ellie is gone. It's such a pity."
I closed my eyes, took a deep breath to calm myself, suspecting that Paul was deliberately trying to provoke me.
"I picked it for aromatherapy. It has nothing to do with Ellie." I didn't want to admit how much Ellie meant to me, so I awkwardly chose to lie.
"Yeah, I know. I was just kidding, Aelros." Paul smirked, crossed his arms, and mocked my stubbornness.
"You seem to have a new hobby lately, always running back home. You used to hate being alone; you were always out with some pretty girl." I crossed my legs, lazily leaning back on the sofa, resting my chin on my arm and giving Paul a scrutinizing look.
Paul shrugged, raised his hands in resignation. "I recently found a little pet that I like, and I'm bonding with it."
"A pet? Paul, you're not a compassionate person." I frowned, filled with doubt.
Paul was someone who enjoyed tormenting the weak, whether it was undifferentiated women or human females; he always found pleasure in humiliating them, a fact known throughout the Pack. Would Paul really take care of a pet?
I didn't believe it.
"But I really like that little cat," Paul said with a tone of regret, "If you saw it, you would like it too."
"Unfortunately, she can't go out recently." After saying this, Paul glanced at his watch and said, "Sorry, I have to leave; my pet must be anxious at home."
I watched Paul's back as he hummed a tune, feeling unhappy, not even realizing that I had crushed the glass in my hand.
This jerk.
My intuition told me that there was something wrong with Paul; he seemed very unusual, but I had no evidence.
It seemed like I had to accept Weslin's proposal.
