The driver brought the car over and pulled up to the side of the road. “Madam,” he greeted her.

Susan got into the car and sighed dejectedly. “Let’s go home

As the car drove off, Paul and Miranda were crossing the street with shopping bags in their hands. The two of them and the car just missed each other.

Paul said, “Let me carry everything.” Then, he took the shopping bags from her hands.

Miranda didn’t argue because she knew she couldn’t win. Plus, the bags were indeed quite heavy.

As they reached the entrance of the alley, Paul suddenly asked, “Have you adjusted to the lab at Dunham College?”

Miranda nodded. “Not only is the lab fully equipped, it’s also comfortable and spacious. Dr. Fischer is nice, and the senior students under him are very considerate as well. They always made sure to register our share for us whenever they picked up lab supplies.

Hver, Miranda paid for all the lab supplies according to their prices on the invoice. She already felt

bad about using the lab for free. How could she justify using other people’s supplies without paying?

Paul paused for a moment and continued, “Have you run into any problems?”

Miranda thought about it. The experiments were progressing smoothly, and they were slowly catching up on their delayed progress. As for her coursework, she was keeping up with it.

Although she only got an A- in the last class evaluations, it was because one of the questions was ambiguous and sparked a huge debate. No one in class managed to answer it correctly..

Miranda was about to shake her head and say no after running through the recent events in her mind when she suddenly remembered something

Paul said, “You hesitated. Is it because of what happened at Dunham College’s cafeteria?”

Miranda turned her head sharply. “How do you know?”

“I ran into Dr. Fischer at a meeting this morning.

Her thoughts raced as an apologetic look appeared on Miranda’s face. “I’m sorry. I didn’t expect this to blow up and reach Dr. Fischer, Did he… complain to you?”

By the end, her head was completely lowered in embarrassment and shame.

Charles had only lent them the lab out of respect and as a favor to Paul. Now that this incident happened, she feared that he blamed Paul for it.

“I’m sorry, Dr. Jefferson, I-

“Why are you apologizing?” Paul stopped in his tracks abruptly.

Miranda also stopped walking. She looked up and unexpectedly met his deep, intense gaze. “Because I’ve caused you trouble.”

He sighed softly. “I just wanted to say that you did nothing wrong in this situation. You don’t need to

apologize or feel burdened because of this.

He added, “As for causing me trouble… Do I seem like someone who’s afraid of trouble?”

Miranda glanced at him. “No. Trouble probably fears you.”

Paul chuckled. I’m glad you know that. Next time something like this happens, don’t overthink it. If you want to refuse, refuse. If you need to walk away, just leave. Remember…”

He spoke each word deliberately. “I will be there to hold up the sky for you if it falls. You have nothing to fear.”

At that moment, Miranda felt awestruck. Her eyes and nose both started to prickle. She blinked and rubbed her nose. “Okay, but what about Dr. Fischer…”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ve already reminded him to focus on improving the students‘ behavior and campus atmosphere at the college.”

It was simply outrageous! Not only did the students behave recklessly and get into a fight without reason, but even the counselors liked to gossip and complain about college matters.

The place really needed a proper cleanup!

Miranda was at a loss for words. Was this really okay? Wasn’t Paul being a little too bold?

Paul firmly reassured her, “There’s nothing wrong with that. Shouldn’t they think about the consequences when they were bullying you? Did they think you had no one to back you up?”

Miranda was stunned.

Was Paul standing up for her?
